WPT Announces Irish Tournament

It took 10 seasons but the World Poker Tour will host a tournament in Ireland for the very first time this winter.

Taking place in January 2012, the PKR.com WPT Ireland will feature a €2,500 buy-in (10% withheld) at the City West Hotel in Dublin.

“We are excited to be join with our partner PKR.com to bring the World Poker Tour to Ireland for the very first time,” said WPT President Adam Pliska.

“The history and heritage of poker in the Emerald Isle make it a tremendous tour stop and the beautiful City West Hotel and all of its top-notch accommodations will make this a memorable event.”

As with most WPT stops the first place finisher will walk away with a seat into the WPT World Championship, which is worth $25,000.

The WPT, which takes primarily in the United States, has greatly expanded its international presence in the last few years and now hosts tournaments in Slovenia, Paris, Malta, Amneville, Marrakech and Prague.

In addition to being a major stop on the WPT, PKR.com Ireland will also serve as the site for the Irish Poker Championships, formerly held in Galway.

The €750 buy-in tournament will be just one of the many side events available for poker players in Dublin during WPT Ireland.

The WPT will kick off its 10th season with the annual Legends of Poker Event at the Bicycle Casino in L.A. on Aug. 25th.

Last year Andy Frankenberger outlasted a field of 462 players to take down a $750,000 first place prize. Frankenberger would go on to win Player of the Year in the WPT’s ninth season.
