Rhowena Colclough, wife of U.K. poker pro Dave Colclough, took first place at the inaugural Poker Dome Challenge at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday. In an 11 p.m. broadcast last night, poker fans watched the poker presenter and model defeat four competitors to take home $25,000 and a seat to the $50,000 semi-finals.
The Poker Dome Challenge was Mrs. Colclough's first live tournament. It was run by world-famous tournament director Matt Savage (of World Series of Poker (WSOP) fame) and hosted by sportscasters Michael Konik and Barry Thompkins. Ali Nejad, emcee of the National Heads-Up Poker Championship and the Jeff Gordon Poker Classic, and Playboy Playmate Lisa Dergen, were on set to entertain the audience and interview the players as they got knocked out.
Ms. Colclough's competitors included Paul Dreyer, a mathematician from California; Brian Wilson, 2005 WSOP $5,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em bracelet winner; Jonathan Sullivan, a poker consultant; Frank Lacava, a restaurant owner; and television director Peter Lawler. Lawler was knocked out in 6th place. He was followed by Wilson, Dreyer, Lacava, and Sullivan.
The Poker Dome Challenge will continue to run at the Tropicana until permanent facilities are completed at the Neonopolis theatre in downtown Las Vegas.
