Phil Ivey is up to durrrr's challenge
UPDATE: For the latest news on the durrrr Challenge, click here.
To all the naysayers out there who said nobody would rise to the durrrr million dollar challenge, may we present to you Phil Ivey.
And David Benyamine. And Patrik Antonius.
Phil Ivey confirmed today on PokerRoad Radio with Barry Greenstein that he's already told Tom "durrrr" Dwan that he'll take on his million-dollar online poker challenge. He also said Benyamine is up first to try the challenge and Antonius is waiting in the wings for a shot at it.
For those of you not in the know about what the durrrr challenge is, Dwan is putting up $1.5 million to a challenger's $500,000 playing four tables at a time heads-up with minimum $200/$400 stakes.
They'll have to play a minimum of 50,000 hands, and if the challenger ends up even a dollar more than where he started when the matchup began, he wins durrrr's $1.5 million. If durrrr ends up on the winning side, he gets the player's $500,000. Plus they'll get to keep whatever money they already won while playing.
The challenge is open to anyone, except for Phil Galfond, which Greenstein comments on.
"I would have expected him to challenge everyone except maybe Phil Ivey, who's looking to me like the best heads-up player," Greenstein said during his chat with Ivey.
But he points out that perhaps Dwan feels he has an edge on Ivey because of the four-table stipulation in the challenge. Ivey normally only plays two tables heads-up at a time, though when he's feeling "froggy" he ups it to three.
"You know what, the funny thing is he probably does have an edge," Ivey said on PokerRoad. "But you know, like, I don't know, it's just something tempting about that million and a half to that $500,000."
He admits durrrr will initially have the edge as he adjusts to playing four tables at once, but he's counting on durrrr not realizing how many hands 50,000 hands really is. He'll have time to catch up, and it's likely someone will go broke in this challenge.
Ivey has also been playing Dwan a lot lately on Full Tilt Poker, so he's got some experience playing him already that he's counting on as well.
The challenge is likely to take place at Full Tilt Poker, so railbirds may want to keep an eye on the high-stakes tables while they're sitting down to play their own favorite games and stakes.
We'll also continue to bring readers as much information on the challenge as we get it so you can find out if Dwan can put his money where his mouth is.

2009-03-20Hey Marvin. Firstly this article is old now, the challenge is actually happening between durrrr and Patrik Antonius.
You can watch it by starting up your FT program, and clicking on Omaha Hi. In the highstakes section (the top) you'll see some durrrr Challenge tables.
Unfortunately they haven't played for a long time now, we hope they'll sit soon.
