No Ante Up for Africa this Summer, Maybe in November

No Don Cheadle means no Ante Up for Africa.

Ante Up for Africa has been a fixture at the World Series for the last four years but due to scheduling conflicts with Don Cheadle, it won’t be happening at the 2011 WSOP.

“Don Cheadle is busy working on a project and wasn’t available to coordinate the event this summer,” WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky told in Las Vegas.

“Depending on what his schedule is like we’re hoping it might happen during the Main Event final table in November,” added Palansky.

Cheadle has been the driving force behind this charity event since its inception in 2007 and is responsible for attracting A-List celebs like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, meaning the event would likely struggle without his involvement.

The event raised $275,000 for humanitarian aid in Africa in 2010, thanks in large part to Phil Gordon’s 100% donation of his $129,000 first-place prize.

Last year’s event attracted big names from the entertainment industry and the sports world including Brad Garret, Shannon Elizabeth, Evander Holyfield and Jerome Bettis.

To date has raised $3.2 million.
