Benyamine joins $600k-pot club

David Benyamine
Full Tilt pro David Benyamine: rich like an astronaut.

It took roughly 11 years to see online poker's first $600k pot. It then took all of about 11 hours to see its second.

The insatiable lust for high-stakes No-Limit Hold'em that seems to have seized the poker community lately showed no signs of slowing over the weekend, with a steady lineup of big name pros stepping up to the felt at Full Tilt's marquee $500/$1,000 RailHeaven table.

And while there was the expected deluge of $200k-$300k pots, the big story of the weekend came near the very beginning, as just 11 hours after high-stakes fish patatino made online poker history with a $610k pot Friday morning, David Benyamine came oh-so-close to one-upping him with a $600k pot of his own Friday night.

A $605k pot, to be more exact - just $5k short of the all-time record, but a hefty score all the same for yet another pro considered to be one of the "weaker" No-Limit players in the high-stakes stratosphere.

Benyamine's victim: fellow high-stakes icon Patrik Antonius, who looked good for a big pot of his own until he had the misfortune of running his flopped set of sixes into Benyamine's turned set of aces.

Already sitting with a stack of $557k when the big hand came up, Benyamine went on to push his stack in the session to just under $1 million - given Benyamine's predilection for the gambool and the fact he left the session with most of it, a sure sign we haven't seen the last of the record-breaking pots.
