John Tabatabai joins Betfair Poker
By Sarah Polson
Betfair Poker has added another rising star to its roster, bringing John Tabatabai onto its team of poker players.
Originally from Cardiff, John Tabatabai has been working his way into the poker spotlight since finding himself heads-up against Annette Obrestad in the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event.
Obrestad went on to win the event, but the over $1 million Tabatabai received for second place was more than enough to set him on track with a professional poker career.
Since the September 2007 WSOP Europe, Tabatabai has taken on the U.K. Open IV as well as the European Open IV. His latest cash came in the All Africa Poker Tournament in February, however, where he registered a win.
"John is a very aggressive poker strategist, who also is an absolute class act at the table which is very refreshing to see," said Director of Poker Bruce Stubbs.
"Although he came just short in the 2007 WSOPE, he managed to win in South Africa to prove he has what it takes. Like our other young guns John is making things happen right now, and we expect big things from him!"
Tabatabai now has about five years of poker-playing experience under his belt. He first learned the game while attending university and he can now be found dominating cash tables in casinos around the world as well as on Betfair Poker.
He joins Sorel Mizzi and Annette Obrestad on the Betfair Poker team.
