The stakes may be lower than he's used to, but the payoff was still considerable.

Famed online high-stakes player Brian Hastings proved he doesn’t need the internet to make money playing poker, winning the WPT Regional Summer Splash in Hollywood, Florida yesterday.

Hastings, who has reportedly earned nearly $4 million playing online poker under the screen name “Stinger885” secured his first major live tournament title and $213,877.

With online poker all but inaccessible to Americans living in the US, Hastings has joined many of his fellow pros in their attempts to play as much live poker as possible.

For Hastings, whose prowess has traditionally come in the cash game format, live tournaments represent something of a departure.

Before this win his only live tournament result was a runner-up finish in the €5k Heads-Up event at this year’s EPT Grand Final in Madrid.

His live tournament earnings now total roughly $280,000.

381 players bought into this WPT Regional event, hosted by the Hard Rock Casino in Seminole, Florida. With a $2,200 buy-in, that number created a $782,000 prize pool and six-figure payouts for the top two spots.

Hastings defeated Griffin Malatino, a Florida native with just a few small cashes prior to this on his resume. Malatino took $117,300 for the runner-up finish.

Also cashing in this event was celebrated tournament player and Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier. He finished 23rd for $6,647.
