Delaware Park Sets Record for Longest Continuous Poker Tournament

It didn't reach the Guinness benchmark, but Delaware Park Casino did set a new world record for the longest continuous poker tournament this past weekend.

Dubbed the "Delaware Park Iron Man Poker Challenge," the record-setting tournament drew 376 players who began play at noon on Saturday, August 20 and aimed to hit the Guinness-set target of 36 straight hours of play.

In the end they came up just short, wrapping the tournament up on Sunday the 21st at 7:58 p.m. for a total time of 31 hours, 58 minutes.

The record-breaking attempt still accomplished what it set out to, however, according to Poker Room Manager Kevin Castora.

“At one point, there were 177 people streaming the live video," Castora said, "and 1,700 people following the live updates through, in addition to the 40+ people in the crowd around the final table.

“We are constantly trying to innovate the game of poker by creating new and exciting events," added Castora. "I want our players to always feel welcome and be a part of special events such as this,”

Despite failing to meet the Guinness requirement, it did set a record for the Longest “Documented” Continuous Poker Tournament according to organizers.

The only other documented marathon poker tournament, they say, was held at the Commerce Casino in LA in 2009 and lasted only 19 hours.

The total prize pool for this one was $182,360, with Hieu Tran taking home the title and $43,761 for the win.
