Barcelona native headed Down Under

Final Table, Aussie Millions

By Sarah Polson

Marc Seguer may have missed out on the World Poker Tour event taking place right in his own backyard the past week in Barcelona, but his poker skills will instead be taking him to Melbourne in January for the Aussie Million courtesy of PokerListings.com and Pacific Poker.

Seguer was the winner of a freeroll offered by the two sites with a top prize of an $11,000 package for a trip to the Aussie Millions. The package includes the buy-in for the event plus money for travel and accommodations.

This won't be the first major poker event for the 26-year-old photographer. He also won his way into the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event through an online freeroll after just starting to play poker in January that same year.

"But the WSOP freeroll was only a 34-player tournament where I was the chip leader all the way," Seguer said. "So I think my best poker win is the PokerListings Aussie Millions freeroll at Pacific Poker, with 102 players, and I was playing probably my best poker ever."

Seguer discovered poker on television, like many of today's players. He started watching the European Poker Tour on television and was hooked.

"Immediately I thought it was a very exciting game, with a strong emphasis on the mind, but also with the unpredictable luck factor that made it enjoyable," he said. "I tried it playing play money on the Internet, and when I started reading about strategy and tactics, poker definitely captured me."

Now Seguer, whose online name is venturii, can be found playing online one to two hours every day and at Pacific Poker at least four or five times per week.

"Pacific Poker is one of my favorite poker rooms. Lots of tables, fast action and, in general, more loose players than other sites. Plus fast and sure cash-outs; I [have] never had a problem with them," Seguer said.

He's also a regular at PokerListings.com where he said he likes to use the poker odds calculator.

"The reviews are the best you can find on the Internet, and the news is very interesting too," Seguer said. "Also you have very good promotions for your players. For example this Aussie Millions freeroll, and I cashed out two times in the $5,000 monthly freerolls. So, I am very happy with the site, and if I open accounts in new poker rooms in the future, I'll be sure to do it through PokerListings."

Even though the Aussie Millions is still a few months away, Seguer is already turning his attention to playing in the big event. He commented that he was happy with his freeroll win and how he played in that tournament, and he's excited for the chance to experience the Aussie Millions.

When asked if he was nervous about playing in the event, he said, "Yes, of course, but now it will be my second major tournament, so I hope to be less nervous and play better."

It doesn't help that some of the world's biggest professional players will likely be at the felt as well. Last year Gus Hansen won the event, and the likes of Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Tony G and other poker celebrities were there.
