Sterling Lopez returned to the WSOP specifically to play this event — and it paid off. He was the only player at the final table without a WSOP bracelet.

Lopez defeated Jesse Lonis heads-up. Remarkably, it was Lonis’ first time playing a five-game mix consisting of 2-7 Triple Draw, Omaha Hi-Lo, Razz, Seven Card Stud, and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo.

Earlier this summer, Lonis finished runner-up in the $5K PLO event. He has now earned more than $1.1 million during this year’s WSOP.

The tournament attracted 4,764 entries, requiring an extra day of play. Shepsky led the final table from start to finish and held half the chips in play when the field reached five-handed.

Shepsky has been playing PLO cash games since 2013. Before switching to cash, he played Sit & Go tournaments, and he credited that experience with helping him apply pressure at the final table.

The victory also gave him the biggest cash of his career. His previous best was $262,300 for a 29th-place finish in the 2022 WSOP Main Event.

He celebrated the victory by himself, but his smile didn’t leave his face for the next half hour. The win also marked the biggest cash of the Italian player’s career.
