888 announced this week that it has received GamCare certification for its standards of practice.

GamCare is one of the leading authorities on the provision of information, advice and practical help in addressing the social impact of gambling. The organization strives to develop strategies that will:

  • Improve the understanding of the social impact of gambling
  • Promote a responsible approach to gambling
  • Address the needs of those adversely affected by a gambling dependency

"We are delighted to award 888 with our Certification as a mark of their excellent standards of practice," said Andrew Poole, GamCare's head of online services.

"GamCare has a commitment to promote responsible attitudes to gambling, and we recognize the importance of acknowledging those organizations that have attained high standards of social responsibility and player protection, issues that are becoming increasingly important for any remote operator."

888, which operates Pacific Poker, collaborated with GamCare and set up 888responsible.com. The site, which is dedicated to responsible gaming, launched this week.

Ruth Tanami, 888 director of responsible gaming, said 888Responsible.com offers comprehensive and easily accessible information about responsible gaming practices, dealing with problem gambling, preventing underage gambling, charity activity and more.

"As a global leader in online entertainment, 888.com contributes many resources for the benefit of society in general and issues that involve gaming in particular," said the company in a press release. "The new site is the latest addition to this social involvement, which is one of 888.com's top priorities as a company."

The site offers information about responsible gambling as well tips on protecting minors. There are tools for self-assessment and for identifying teen gamblers.

"GamCare recognizes the good work 888.com has achieved in producing an informative site that aims to not only help people keep their gambling in control, but that also identifies how people can access support for themselves or someone else who may be affected by a gambling problem," Poole said.

"Ensuring that gaming remains responsible and fun demands a collaborative effort from not only the gaming companies but also from support agencies, governments and individual gamblers too. It is encouraging to see 888.com contributing in this way."
