As of this month, Stake Casino is that much closer to making its regulated Canadian debut.
The operator has now secured registration in Alberta and is preparing to launch a licensed online casino and sportsbook in the Canadian province. There is no confirmed go-live date just yet, but Stake has already put up an Alberta-specific site that is promising casino games, live dealer tables, slots and sports betting when the doors eventually do open.
While Stake is doing everything by the book for this Alberta launch, the casino brand has actually been accessible to Canadian players outside the regulated provincial system for years now. This newest provincial registration opens a route into the kind of licensed market already operating in Ontario.
So, lets take a look.

Stake Clears Another Hurdle for its Alberta Launch
On September 24, 2026 Stake Canada Ltd. acquired its Alberta iGaming operator registration — a milestone but not the milestone that would make the Alberta site live (yet).
Stake still needs to complete the remaining steps required to operate within Alberta’s regulated market, including its commercial arrangements with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The simpler version is that Stake has been approved at the registration stage but yet started taking regulated bets in Alberta.
That didn’t stop the operator from advertising its launch at ab.stake.ca, where you can see for yourself that Stake Alberta is coming in 2026, albeit without an exact date just yet.
What Would Stake Casino Look Like in Alberta?
Based on what we saw on their Alberta-dedicated site, Stake already has a gameplan in place. From the looks of it, the operator plans to enter Alberta with the two products most of us would probably expect: online casino and sports betting.
Its Alberta site currently advertises slots, live casino games and a sportsbook, alongside Canadian-dollar payments.
| Stake Alberta Product | Expected at Launch |
|---|---|
| Online Casino | Yes |
| Slots | Yes |
| Live Casino | Yes |
| Sportsbook | Yes |
| CAD Payments | Yes |
| Poker | No |
| Daily Fantasy Sports | No |
As of this article, there’s been no word on their online poker room going live in the province, leaving Stake’s Canadian debut limited to casino and sports betting.
Alberta Gives Stake a Regulated Route Into Canada
Stake’s arrival comes only a few months after Alberta opened its competitive online gambling market on July 13, 2026.
Before that, Alberta’s regulated online offering was far more limited, while a large share of players opted to use offshore gambling sites. Since then, the province opened its door to private operators, including Bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM into the regulated system.
The fact that Stake doesn’t come as much of a surprise. After all, the operator alreay had a substantial Canadian player base before applying to formally enter Alberta. Citing H2 Gambling Capital estimates, Canadian Gaming Business reported that Stake held around 31% of Canada’s unregulated iGaming market, with its estimated Canadian revenue reaching approximately C$921 million.
While those figures are estimates and not raw numbers, they pain a pretty clear picture as to what kind of chokehold the Stake brand already had before seeking a provincial licence.
So, unlike a new operator arriving in Canada and looking for its base, Stake is aiming at something more like a migration — move its existing audience onto its regulated Alberta platform.
Stake Casino Is Also Looking at Ontario
While Alberta may end up being the first province where Stake gets through the red tape, it isn’t its only Canadian target. As we speak, Stake is also seeking approval in Ontario, which has operated its own competitive regulated online gambling market since 2022.
The company has said its Ontario application is progressing, although there is currently no launch date there either. Stake’s Canadian website lists both Alberta and Ontario as markets it plans to enter in 2026.
For now, Alberta happens to be further along but as always, we’ll keep you updated.
