"It's a shallow structure, but at least there are no antes in the beginning."</p> <p>Even if Caby busts first, the promotion winner will receive $500, but if CardRunners' instructor takes it down, the prize will swell to $5,000.</p> <p>When asked if he was feeling any extra pressure over the Piece of Taylor promotion, Caby was quick to dismiss the notion.</p> <p>"I don't think so," he laughed. "This is by far my biggest live tournament cash, so I'm probably putting more pressure on myself just to perform well. George called and when the <span class="nowrap">3<img src="http://www.pokerlistings.com/images/deck/d.gif" alt="d" /></span> fell on the river, Dwan simply pushed all in.</p> <p>The two had a $10,000 seven-deuce prop-bet going, meaning anyone who won a pot and showed seven-deuce would get paid.</p> <p>As a result, when George couldn't make the call after five minutes in the tank, durrrr showed the bluff.</p> <p>To be fair, Dwan admitted he would have folded as well.</p> <p>"I am bluffing with any hand I get to the river with that isn't a pair or better, but it's so rare that I get to the river without a pair, so his fold is pretty reasonable and I would make the same fold just about every time," he explained after the match.</p> <p>"Once Sammy checked the turn I had to bet in my mind as I thought I was going to win a lot of the time. On the river I might have given up, but on the board-pairing river I think it was an easy shove, as it's so believable that I have a full-house there and Sammy has a tough call with any hand.<br /> <br /> "He rarely has a full house and it's likely he just has aces or something like that, so I really like my shove on the river and fortunately Sammy didn't make the hero call. It would have been an absurd call and luckily for me he didn't make it. I was pretty worried for a while that he was going to make it but thankfully it worked out."</p> <p>George said he almost made the call, but couldn't pull the trigger.</p> <p>"He either had the nuts or nothing and I was so close to calling," he said. "But you can't in that situation. If I'd called and he has the nut-flush I'm an idiot, if I call and he has air, I'm a hero."</p> <p>George called the hand a turning point in the match and Dwan's domination continued after as George was forced to rebuy again, finally tapping the mat when he went broke just before the allotted 500 hands were through.</p> <p>Gracious in victory, Dwan said the cards simply fell his way all night.</p> <p>"I don't think I played too well today, I just think I happened to get a bunch of hands, like I don't think Sammy played badly, he just happened to be on the wrong side of some tough spots," he said. "It's easy to look like a genius when you have the best hand every time, and easy to not look like one when you get beat every hand."</p> <p>Matchroom Sports' Eddie Hearn labeled the challenge a success and said there are plans to do it all over again on the other side of the pond in 2010.</p><p>"The last three days has been a rollercoaster of swings and emotions at the Full Tilt Poker Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge," said Hearn. We're proud of the instant success, and look forward to hearing what our elected officials think of the legislation and this new advocacy program."</p> <p>The Tweets will support either Sen. Robert Menendez' pro-online poker bill in the Senate or Rep. Barney Frank's poker bill in the House. "And until that time we will leverage both the World Poker Tour and PartyPoker as best we can to take that challenge to our competitors."</p> <p>Before the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was signed into U.S. law in October 2006 and PartyPoker effectively pulled out of the U.S. market, it was the number one site in poker.</p><p>Since that time, PokerStars has emerged as the industry leader with more than 28 million players worldwide.</p><p>A major catalyst for PokerStars' growth has been the emergence of the European Poker Tour. While the WPT has always been credited with helping spur on poker's boom, it has since been surpassed by the PokerStars EPT, which boasted a total prize pool in excess of $55 million over 11 events last season, making it the largest poker tour in the world.</p> <p>However, Welch says PartyGaming subsidiary Peerless Media Ltd's $12.3&nbsp;million purchase of the WPT, approved by shareholders earlier this month, now has the organization primed to compete in Europe and across the globe.</p> <p>"We think there is certainly room for two big tours in Europe," said Welch. "And the World Poker Tour, we believe, is a global brand while the European Poker Tour exists only in Europe."</p> <p>Particularly in Italy and France, the WPT plans on embarking upon an aggressive growth strategy to begin competing with the EPT.</p> <p>"We're looking forward to more global expansion, more International expansion," added newly appointed WPT president Adam Pliska.</p> <p>Welch said part of that expansion will include offering more online satellites into WPT events worldwide.</p> <p>"It's a great opportunity to offer our European players more tournaments and land based events and of course we are going to run satellites on PartyPoker," Welch said. "But we are also going to encourage other online sites to do the same."</p> <p>While sites other than PokerStars once ran satellites for EPT events, many stopped after PokerStars forced its competitors to use the site's branding.</p> <p>Welch says the WPT and PartyPoker will be taking a different approach.</p> <p>"PokerStars have gone down the route of it being the PokerStars EPT and you've got to have that on your site to run satellites or freerolls," he explained. "That's not our strategy. Our strategy initially will be that it's the World Poker Tour and you can come and qualify from any online site or direct buy in.</p> <p>"What they are trying to do is leverage their brand. They have the biggest tour in Europe and they are trying to get other people to mention their brand name. We have an opportunity here to grow the World Poker Tour by offering other online sites a chance to get in there without necessarily mentioning PartyPoker and that's what we are going to do."</p> <p>But the battle for online poker supremacy will not just be fought on European soil.</p> <p>In April of this year, PartyGaming entered into a $105 million settlement with the U.S. Attorney's Office to avoid prosecution for providing<strong> </strong>Internet gambling services to U.S. customers prior to the enactment of the UIGEA<strong>.</strong></p> <p>Under the terms of the agreement, PartyGaming agreed to stay out of the U.S. Internet gambling market under current legislation and is hoping, should the legislation change, it would be in a prime position to move back in.</p> <p>Welch said the purchase of the WPT is yet another way PartyGaming is paving its road back into the United States.</p> <p>"Should the United States open up, it's going to put us in a preeminent position, way ahead of the competition," he said. "We've taken the long view while some of the other players have taken the short view, and should the United States open up, we are going back to being number one again."</p> <p>However, until U.S. Lawmakers get on board, Welch said the front lines of this fight will remain on the other side of the Atlantic.</p> <p>"This provides us with a massive platform to bring PartyPoker back into the hands of millions of Americans," he said. "But in Europe, we can do that from day one."</p><p>The public face of both brands, 2009 Poker Hall of Fame inductee Mike Sexton, believes with PartyPoker and the WPT coming together, the sky is the limit.</p> <p>"I think it can be a huge entity and a worldwide brand," he said. After an hour and a half of a virtual deadlock, Isildur1 decided to add more players into the mix.</p><p>Exclusively at $500/$1,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em, Isildur1 chose to play Dwan, Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius, all at the same time.</p> <p>Dwan played the most hands against Isildur1 out of the three Team Full Tilt players, but in the end finished down $14k.</p> <p>Ivey, the second player to be added into the mix, stuck around for almost one thousand hands, more than enough time to take $800k from the unknown Swede.</p> <p>Antonius, who joined the action almost immediately after Ivey, lasted just 433 hands, losing over $253k.</p> <p>When the Hold'em action dried up, Dwan and Isildur1 moved to $500/$1,000 PLO for a lengthy 2,338 hand session. Isildur1 got the best of Dwan once again, this time for $230k.</p> <p>If it wasn't for a $562k win through Brian Townsend earlier in the night, Dwan would have booked yet another losing session at the hands of Isildur1. "He raised a lot pre-flop and you have to play tight, but I made some good moves and I'm happy I proved I can play with Tom."<br /> <br /> It was a back and forth affair featuring 11 hours of No-Limit Hold'em followed up by an hour of Pot-Limit Omaha with both players down over $100,000 on more than one occasion.</p> <p>In the end, durrrr won 55% of the pots, but several key hands and larger pots went the Italian's way.</p> <p>Marcello first moved ahead in the match bluffing the newly minted Team Full Tilt Pro off of a $100k pot with king-high.</p> <p>Dwan reloaded and chipped away until he was $100k up, but Marcello struck back hard flopping a full house to get even and taking the lead with a flush over flush hand.</p> <p>The players switched to PLO in the final hour of play and although durrrr came back, he couldn't get all the way there before 500 hands and 12 hours were through.</p> <p>"It was a really aggressive match," said Dwan. "It's so crazy that at the end there was just a 25k difference - that's absurd. It's so unlikely that one of us didn't lose 500k.</p> <p>"I was up 150k at one or two points and down 200k - but it still wasn't as swingy as I thought it would be. We didn't have many big hand versus big hand spots, or even medium hand versus medium hand spots. "Queens against him, that's like having aces. You are never ever folding to him with queens.</p> <p>"Even the fives, I'm raising the button, I know he's shoving a lot of hands so I have to call with fives there."</p> <p>Goodger eventually got his wish, getting sent to bed in third place when he got it all in with top pair against Keikoan's bottom two and failed to improve.</p> <p>Keikoan then went into heads up with 33-year-old Sacramento Police officer Justin Hallstrom holding an almost 5:1 chip lead and made short work of the amateur to grab the WSOPC title.</p> <p>"I've been coming up here my whole life, I'm comfortable here," added Keikoan. Online player obiedman went on to win the tournament for $539,350, the biggest payout of FTOPS XIV.</p> <p>In the meantime, Lee, or Genius28, outlasted 1,166 players to take down the FTOPS XIV $109 PLO rebuy event for $93,302.</p> <p>Elsewhere, Lindley was a force to be reckoned with in the $129 NL Hold'em Knockout event. The <em>Maxim</em> model made it all the way to heads-up before she was beaten by little chief17.</p> <p>Fortunately for Lindley, there was a deal made three-handed that saw her guaranteed at least $100,000 and when all was done and said, Lindley won $106,460 for her second place finish. Little chief17 received $125,959 for winning the event.</p><p>The $535 FTOPS XIV main event would draw 5,471 runners, enough to make it the biggest FTOPS final of all time.</p> <p>Of all the recognizable pros who entered it was Poker VT instructor Junglen who had the most impressive run.</p> <p>Junglen outlasted 5,469 players before finally busting in third place for $290,418. Van den Berg would soon follow after losing a race with pocket jacks versus A-Q.</p> <p>Thorsson had entered the final table second in chips and never let up in his journey to the title.</p> <p>He busted Tim van de Riet, Nicklas Saarisilta and Andras Nemeth on his way to a heads-up match against Turkish player Saydam Ozgur.</p> <p>Although the Master Classics of Poker was his first major live tournament score, Thorsson has racked up hundreds of thousands in online winnings.</p><p>Playing under the screen name Sumpas, Thorsson won a World Championship of Online Poker title in September taking down the $10,300 No-Limit Hold'em High Rollers event for $600,000.</p> <p>The 2009 Amsterdam Master Classics of Poker took place Nov. 10-13 at the Holland Casino.
