In March, FanDuel and PokerStars officially joined forces to usher in a new era of online poker in North America. Today, May 7, a new piece of that puzzle came into place, as PokerStars Ontario stopped offering poker, casino and sports on their official platform. As we enter this transition period, here is what Ontario players can expect.

PokerStars Ontario Retires
The official announcement came on May 4, via the operator’s account on X.
PokerStars will no longer offering Poker, Casino or Sports on our current platform in Ontario as of May 7.

While PokerStars Ontario formally closes its doors this spring, this move is still just part of a larger transition, similar to ones that happened in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. PokerStars Ontario going offline will pave the way for PokerStars on FanDuel Ontario launching in the Canadian district in the coming months.
That said, there is still no clear timeline for the launch. What we know so far is that players should not be in any rush to close their accounts and cash out. In the announcement PokerStars confirmed its Ontario players will be able to access their accounts until June 4, 2026. Any funds still in players’ account after the deadline will be mailed to them via a physical paper check.
Another relevant point in the announcement concerns existing PokerStars Ontario, mainly the fact that they will not be migrated to the new FanDuel-powered platform. This means that players will need to register brand new accounts once the client goes live in Canada.
Players with FanDuel accounts, on the other hand, will be able to access the new site with their current account details.
What’s to Come for Ontario Poker
Since there are no official launch dates for FanDuel Poker in Ontario as of this article, we can only speculate that it will be sooner rather than later, similar to the province’s US counterparts. What the US launch tells us is that we could also be getting custom tournament series or promotions ahead of the big launch, similar to the Ignite Series that wrapped up just a few days prior.
We’ll keep updating you as the story develops.
