What does Evelyn Ng have in common with some of the biggest poker legends in the business? Just like Puggy Pearson and Billy Baxter, she got her start in the gambling world playing pool.Ng, who's often called Evy or Evybabee, was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1975. When she was 14 she started playing pool for money and by the time she was 17 she'd moved up to dealing and playing poker in the back rooms of various establishments around Toronto. It was during that time she also met Daniel Negreanu, who became her friend and poker mentor.

Negreanu helped Evelyn elevate her game and exposed her to the world of professional poker playing. For her 21st birthday, Negreanu took Evelyn to Las Vegas where she met a slew of professional poker players who made their living entirely off poker; for the first time she realized she might be able to do that as well.

The bright lights and big money of Vegas drew Ng in and it wasn't long before she moved there. She immediately got a job as a blackjack and poker dealer, which enabled her to watch players and learn more about tells and playing styles, as well as help her work on her game and build up a bankroll.

In 2003 Evy decided to step up her game. She entered a satellite tournament for the World Poker Tour Ladies Night event and won herself a seat. The Ladies Night event proved a pivotal turning point in Ng's pro poker career. She ended up taking second place, beating out the likes of Jennifer Harman, Kathy Liebert and Annie Duke along the way.

Since then she's complimented her career as a pro cash game player with more success in tournament poker, including placing 11th at the 2005 Borgata Poker Open and taking seventh place at the Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker Tournament in May 2006.

Evelyn says her favorite places to play cash games are the Bellagio, which she believes is the epicenter of poker action in Vegas, and the Mirage, because it is more relaxed and has a very comfortable atmosphere.

One of Evelyn's biggest strengths at the poker table is her ability to play very even, solid poker. She doesn't go on tilt from bad beats and is able to overcome any negative feelings resulting from a loss and continue to play steady, good quality poker. She says one of her secrets to remaining calm and cool during a game is listening to her iPod on a low level. It allows her to relax and stay focused on the game without getting distracted or talking too much, and at the same time it lifts her mood.

Some might say her talent at performing complicated chip tricks also strengthens her game. Known as an ambidextrous chip trick pro because of her signature "butterfly" trick, Ng has dazzled other players at the green felt in the past, which has helped distract them from their game.

Evelyn has managed to parlay her talent, success and notoriety into a partnership with Bodog.com. She signed on as part of their Poker Pro Team in April 2006 and has since participated in numerous events on and offline as a sponsored Bodog.com pro.

When she isn't playing poker, Evelyn enjoys playing video games and Minesweeper on her PC. A self-proclaimed "media-junkie," she loves anything to do with pop culture and media, and watches a lot of TV and movies and listens to a lot of music. She also enjoys good food, especially sushi, and spending time with her friends.
