The venue and schedule have been set for Ireland's premier poker tournament, paddypowerpoker.com announced Friday.

The Citywest Hotel will be the site for Europe's oldest poker tournament, which will run March 19-24.

"Citywest Hotel is the ideal location for the 2008 Irish Open," said Paddy Power, communications manager for paddypowerpoker.com. "We searched the length and breadth of the country to find a venue that could provide players with the famous atmosphere and communal spirit of the Irish Open whilst still being big enough to accommodate the huge field. In Citywest we found the perfect home. With two magnificent golf courses and world-class facilities, Citywest will be the only place to play poker next Easter."

Citywest Hotel is one of the most popular event destinations in Ireland. It includes 1,314 rooms, bars, restaurants, two Christy O'Conner-designed golf courses and a state-of-the-art Health & Leisure Club. It is located only 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Dublin Airport and 15 kilometers (9 miles) from Dublin city centre.

At the 2007 Irish Open, Marty Smyth defeated Roland De Wolfe in an epic heads-up battle to claim the Terry Rogers Memorial Trophy and the €650,000 first prize. The star-studded field featured many of the world's top poker players including Carlos Mortensen, Dan Harrington, Mike Sexton, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, Andy Black and more.

Former winners include Joe Beevers, Noel Furlong and Vincent Melinn. This year promises to be the best yet for the event and many pros have mentioned their interest in playing. Any player over the age of 18 can compete in the tournament.

paddypowerpoker.com will be providing a number of qualifiers for the event every week so keep checking the site to learn when they will take place.
