World Series of Poker heads to Europe
By Erin Warner
For the first time ever, the World Series of Poker will award its infamous gold bracelets outside of Las Vegas. The mother of all tournaments is launching a premiere European event in London this fall, Harrah's Entertainment announced today.
The inaugural event will unfold at three London casinos - Fifty, Leicester Square and the Sportsman - Sept. 6-16.
The series, promised commissioner Jeffrey Pollack in a release, will have a unique identity, style and flair, but will remain true to the event's 38-year tradition and heritage.
"This new tournament has been designed with European players in mind, but registrants from every country are welcome," he said. "We hope it becomes an annual tradition for poker enthusiasts and a home for WSOP fans after the action concludes in Las Vegas each summer."
The European WSOP starts Sept. 6 with a three-day H.O.R.S.E. event at the brand-new Leicester Square, which is also the site of a two-day Pot-Limit Omaha tournament Sept. 8.
The Main Event goes down Sept. 10 and is a six-day £10,000 No-Limit Texas Hold'em Championship. Play will be split amongst all three casinos before being consolidated Sept. 13 at Leicester Square.
More information will be available at worldseriesofpoker.com as of May 1.
