From $2,500 to $10,000 in Six Days: abarone68 Speed Runs a Bankroll Challenge

On October 1st, 888poker ambassador Aaron Barone launched a 10-play-day bankroll challenge via live stream — and finished it early with a larger profit than anticipated.

Bankroll Challenge Setting

  • Starting bankroll — $2,500.
  • 10 streamed sessions.
  • Around 100 MTT per session.
  • Up to 1,000 tournaments during the challenge.
  • $25 max buy-in to begin with.
  • Need at least 100 buy-ins in the bankroll to play a limit.
  • Daily Shots system: Aaron can play more expensive events for which he had at least 50 buy-ins. The number of shots is fluid: it is the only one shot on the first day but each additional day of the challenge awards an extra shot.
  • Bankroll at the end of the day determines the next day’s buy-ins.
  • Daily reports on social media.
  • Bankroll tracking and schedule building via Bankroll Lab.

abarone68’s Results Per Day

Aaron finished Day 1 with a profit of $164 and a bankroll of $2,664, allowing him to move up slightly in buy-ins for Day 2.

Things went so well for him on Day 2 that he ended the session with a profit of $2,529, bringing his total bankroll to $5,193. By this point, having played 178 MTTs, Barone decided to move up in stakes — bidding a polite farewell to the surprisingly tough field of micro-stakes games:

Only spent two days in the micros during my bankroll challenge, but gained so much respect for the people battling it out there. Truly is a grind.

Interestingly, Day 3 at the higher stakes was his first and only losing day with minus $344 — a loss he recouped on Day 4 by turning a profit of $2,436.

After 355 games and boosting his bankroll to $7,285, Barone moved up in stakes again — and, just to be safe, asked his viewers if he should modify the terms of the challenge:

Then he did what the feedback chose, continuing the grind with the initial rules.

Ultimately, he nearly ended the challenge halfway through: Day 5 concluded with a profit of $1,998 and a bankroll of $9,283 after 467 tournaments.

It comes as no surprise that, at this pace, it was Day 6 — which also happened to fall on Thanksgiving! — that marked the finale of the challenge, concluding with a profit of $1,997.

Aaron’s final statistics were as follows:

By the way, Barone accompanied each daily report with AI-generated meme images. And  in some of them, the hero bore so little resemblance to him that it lent the reports a certain comic effect. We’ve gathered a few examples:

Seems like poker can alter a winning player’s appearance but it can’t truly change their essence.
