Henriksson Wins the Final Bracelet of the 2006 WSOP!

Anders Henriksson has become the final bracelet winner at this year's World Series of Poker. In a one day tournament (which lasted for nearly 24 straight hours), Henriksson triumphed over a field of pros and even a final table of Phil Hellmuth to win his first bracelet. He played a very careful and very low final game of heads up with Maureen Feduniak, stealing her blinds and checking like a sailor, but in the end the deliberate and consistent play payed off. The final hand found Moureen all in with K♣ J♥ against Anders' A♦ J♣. The board came 5♥ 2♥ Q♠ 7♦ Q♦ bringing no King for Moureen. Anders takes home $202,291 in first prize winnings, and finally gets to have some sleep.
Blinds Increase - The Action Doesn't

The blinds have increased to $8,000/$16,000 with a $2,000 ante. Henriksson is slowly increasing his lead, and Feduniak needs to start making some moves if she wants to turn things back around. But not many moves are made. One spectator actually said that what's being played is more of a Limit game than a No-Limit one.

Anders Henriksson has taken the lead in the tournament. He has turned things around by winning a lot of small pots. However, Maureen Feduniak has a decent stack and she is still in the game.
Hellmuth Eliminated in 3rd - Still a 10

Phil Hellmuth will have to wait until next year to clip on an eleventh bracelet. It's almost a shame that he had to make it so far, just to watch it slip away. Hellmuth was very short stacked, and moved all in for the rest of his chips with a board of A♦ 7♦ 6♠ 5♣ Q♣. He had been waiting ages for the hand to go all in with, and this was definitely the one. Maureen called, and Phil immediately flipped over his cards saying "Straight." He had the 3♦ 4♥ to make a low straight. Unfortunately, Maureen had the 8♣ 9♥ to make the higher straight. Phil takes third, and Maureen now has at least $600,000 in chips, and is almost assured a bracelet. She's heads up right now with Anders Henriksson.
Big Pot For Feduniak

Anders Henriksson raised pre-flop and Maureen Feduniak called. The flop came A-Q-J. Henriksson bet and Feduniak called. The turn was a 7, and Henriksson bet again. Feduniak raised, and Henriksson re-rasied to put Feduniak all-in. Henriksson flipped over A-Q for two pair, but Feduniak showed K-T for an ace high straight. The river was a blank. Feduniak now has a huge chip lead. Henriksson and Hellmuth are about equal, but way behind Feduniak.
Three Players Left

Phil Hellmuth, Anders Henriksson, and Maureen Feduniak are the three players left in the tournament. Henriksson is the chip leader ahead of Feduniak and Hellmuth. Phil Hellmuth was in real trouble a few minutes ago but has made a nice comeback and still has a chance.

We just saw another elimination when the player in seat one pushed all in for $50,000 after a raise of $15,000 by Anders Henriksson. Henriksson called showing A♣ 9♥. The other guy showed Q♥ K♠. The board came 3♠ 9♣ 7♥ A♠ 5♥. Henriksson is the chip leader at the table, but Hellmuth is in a respectable second.

The hung over spanish speaker has been eliminated. He pushed all in for what was left of his stack with T♥ Q♥ and was called by pocket Jacks. The board came 2♠ J♠ 6♣ 5♠ A♥ and he was bid adios. Go get some nachos holmes.
Well Maybe We Spoke Too Soon

It looked quite bleak not so long ago, but Phil Hellmuth is dwindling no longer after a convenient double up. Here's how it went down in an oh so cold Amazon Room: The gentleman to Phil's right raised it to $15,000 pre-flop, and Phil pushed all in for $50,500 more making it $65,500 total. Action folded around to the raiser, who counted his chips and called. Hellmuth put on his shades before he flipped over pocket Queens. His opponent showed A-K. The board came 6♥ 7♥ 8♦ 4♦ 7♦ allowing Phil's queens to hold up, and leaving him with about $145,000 in chips.
One Elimination, But Almost Two

The man who just doubled up just got eliminated. This time he had pocket Tens, and was called by a guy with pocket Jacks. The Jacks held up. For a moment it looked like we were about to see a second elimination, but instead we got to see the now delirious Latin brother take a smack in the face. He moved all in pre-flop and was called by the new short stack at the table. He seemed pleased to be called, but when he saw his opponent flip over pocket Aces, he flipped over his A-K with a great deal of reluctance. The board brought no Kings. It looks like Hellmuth is now short stacked. An eleventh bracelet is seeming very unrealistic, but they don't call him the brat for nothing.
Short Stack Doubles Up

The short stack at the table has doubled up. He went al-in for $30,000 total, and was called by a man with pocket nines. Mr. Short Stack had K♠ J♦. The flop came 8♦ T♥ T♦, the turn came T♠ to keep the nines in the lead, but with a river of K♣, the double up was completed. Eight players remain, including a pretty subdued Phil Hellmuth, and a beginning to get hung-over Latin fellow.

Players are on a quick break while their black chips are raced off. When they return, the final table will begin. The average stack at the table is $74,000. Phil Hellmuth is about average with $76,000 in chips. The annoying drunk Latino guy who everyone wishes would just bust out already is unfortunately not going anywhere. He's got $105,000. Bummer.

It's down to two tables. Phil Hellmuth is still in it. So is the drunk Latin guy. Although he isn't sitting at the same table as Phil anymore, he is still taunting him. It's pretty annoying.
Doyle Brunson Eliminated

Everyone's hopes of seeing Doyle and Phil duke it out for their 11th bracelet have been squashed as Brunson busted out of the tournament just moments ago. Brunson had been crippled earlier by a very annoying and drunk Latin fellow when Doyle's A-T didn't hold up against the belligerent man's A-K. After taking that hit, Doyle had to make a move, and he did it with pocket fours. He was called by a lady with pocket tens. The board came Q♠ K♦ 5♣ 9♠ 2♥ and Doyle, to much sadness and applause, was eliminated from the last tournament of the 2006 WSOP... Cyndy Violette is also gone.

Phil Hellmuth has just come out into the hall at the Rio and, spotting Allen Cunningham, walked over to congratulate him on his final table appearance at the Main Event. He then told Cunningham that he was confident he could win his record eleventh bracelet in this event, given that he's near the chip lead and playing well. Hellmuth also observed that if he were to cash in this event it would be a WSOP record eighth finish in the money. The top 40 or so players get paid in this event, so keep an eye on things.
Doyle Brunson is still going strong in this event as well, so with two ten-bracelet winners near the top of the chip leaderboard, it should be an interesting evening. In the meantime, however, players have broken for a 1.5 hour dinner break and will return at 6:30 p.m. PST.

The fun never stops at Table Hellmuth

A funny story is, at Phil Hellmuth's table the antes came up one short during a hand. The dealer accused a man sitting beside Helmuth of skimping on the antes, and despite the man's protestations, made Player 1 give in another ante. Hellmuth, never one to brook injustice quietly, stepped in and accused three or four players from the other end of the table of skimping. Chaos ensued, or at least, arguments, with Hellmuth saying, "I'm a gambling man - if anyone wants to bet me $5,000 or $10,000, we can go to the cameras." Nobody was willing to bet and the dealer closed the discussion.
After the hand was dealt, Player 1 moved all-in, just, he said, "to get his quarter back." All folded to him and the issue was resolved without violence.

Captain Tom Franklin is doing his best Doyle Brunson impression, doling out eliminations as though the World Series were ending. He recently busted an opponent after raising him all-in during postflop betting with the board showing 6♦ J♦ 2♣. Player 2 called with A-K and Franklin showed A-J, and after the turn came 5♥ the river sealed the deal with the 9♠. And that's how poker gets played in the big time.

There's one table you don't want to be sitting at in this event, and it's not Phil Hellmuth's. Doyle Brunson is making the Poker Brat look positively sane as he continually busts cats with a fury unmatched in this tournament. The latest unfortunate happened to put out a raise preflop, after which Texas Dolly pushed him all-in for $4,000. Player 2 called with pocket tens and Brunson showed A-Q. The tens looked good through the flop and turn, but the river brought another ace and another notch on Brunson's gun. He now sits with $21,000 and is a scary, scary man.

Tashi has to be a favorite in an event like this
Paul "Tashi" Kobel, winner of Event #42 and the spiritual ancestor to Tommy Chong, has doubled an opponent up after Player 2 moved all-in for $2,175 with Big Slick. Tashi called with Q-10, but the board couldn't help him out, bringing naught but a set of nines. Kobel is down to $2,200.

Cyndy Violette has joined the dream table with Phil Hellmuth, Robert Varkonyi, John Juanda, and T.J. Cloutier, but it hasn't helped the professionals avoid getting bullied around a little. An example: Varkonyi raised $600 from early position and got calls from Cloutier and Violette. Player 2 on the button moved all-in and everyone quickly folded.

Brunson rakes in the pot
Doyle Brunson is pushing chips like weight in this tournament, making an early bid for that 11th bracelet. Texas Dolly recently busted two players in one hand after two opponents moved all-in on a flop of 6♦ 5♣ 2♣. Brunson called, easily covering both men, and showed K♣ Q♣ while Player 2 showed pocket deuces for the set and Player 3 showed 3-4 for the straight. Unfortunately for those not named "Doyle" the A♣ came on the turn, and the river was Q♥, sending Players 2 and 3 to the rail and giving Doyle a stack of $12,000. It wasn't pretty.

Phil Hellmuth doubled up a player to his right when that player hit a four-outer to double up, and the Poker Brat can't put it behind him. He has been complaining to tablemates Robert Varkonyi, John Juanda and T.J. Cloutier for the last fifteen minutes that he can't believe his rotten luck, and by now the other pros have heard enough.
The last straw came when a new player was brought to their table, and Hellmuth immediately pointed to Player 2's chip stack, starting the complaints anew as he claimed those were his chips. Rumor has it Varkonyi and Juanda are planning on donating half their stacks to Hellmuth, just to shut him up.

The final event on the 2006 WSOP roster is underway, and the pros are out in force. Phil Hellmuth, Erik Seidel, Gavin Smith, David Williams and John Juanda are among those in attendance. As this is a one day event play will continue throughout the day until a winner has been determined.
