The Heads Up has been decided – Jacques Blit takes it! 03.10.2023 21:42 by Melvin Schroen

With the blinds on 800k/1600k, Blit opened up the action and Favaloro decided to make the call. With the flop coming 2 Q 4 , it was Blit who lead the action once again with a raise, which got called as well by Favaloro. The 8 on the turn made Blit fire again, and again got called by the Italian. The 7 on the river was the sign for Blit to go All-In on the river to try and finish the heads-up match, Favaloro thought for a while and then made the hero-call, which didn’t turn out well as Blit had nicely top-pair, top-kicker.

Blit showed the winning hand on the showdown with A Q , while Favaloro only could show J 2 for a missed flush draw and bottom-pair.

Favalero takes out Nastasi 03.10.2023 20:02 by Melvin Schroen

Favaloro opened up the action from the button, and Nastasi jams from the SB, he got immediately a call. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t improve his hand, while he was already dominated. It’s the end for Nastasi and gets €60,100!

Nastasi is bleeding chips 03.10.2023 19:40 by Melvin Schroen

Nastasi opened up the action with J 10 with a 3x bet from the SB, and Blit wakes up with K Q from the BB and decides to complete. Flop gives broadway to Blit with A J 10 , but also two-pair to Nastasi.

Nastasi continues small on the flop, where Blit remains under the radar with just a call. The turn gave a 5 , and Nastasi wasn’t that sure anymore and decided to check. Blit however, lead out with a bet of 2/3 of the pot. Nastasi though for a bit and jammed his chips into the middle. Blit immediately called. No help for Nastasi on the river 9 .

Eros loses a big one! 03.10.2023 19:31 by Melvin Schroen

Did we say it was only one-way traffic? In Italy they persumable don’t mind the signs though! Favalero opened up the action with K J , and Nastasi 3-bet to 5,8M with Q 7 . Favalero made the call and we would see a flop.

Flop K J 2 .

Favalero checks, and Nastasi continued for 3,8M. Favalero jams! And Nastasi called.

The turn gave the 9 , and the 3 landed on the river. No help for Nastasi and we would see a shift of the chip leader here.

Massimiliano Ferro out in 4th place 03.10.2023 19:00 by Melvin Schroen

Ferro opens the action with a raise to 2M chips from early position. Jacques Blit woke up with a hand however, and put all his chips over the line. Ferro snapped it off and was at risk.

Ferro: J J

Blit: A Q

Blit needed to hit an ace or queen and did that directly on the flop: 3 Q 9 . Another queen hit the turn Q , and a 2 completed the board. Ferro goes out in 4th place and gets € 44,100.

Whoever has never been to Malta for a game of poker, you are really missing out on something. Portomaso Casino is hosting some of Europe’s biggest live tournament series with reasonable buy-ins. Guided by professionalism, having dealers around who absolutely adore coming back to the venue, tournament organizers who stand in line to arrange their poker series here, they are really from top notch level.

Malta is a great country on its own, but with a fantastic casino as Portomaso offers, it just makes it all a bit better for poker players.

Matt Staples gone from the Comms 03.10.2023 17:40 by Melvin Schroen

We lost Matt Staples today as well at the Grand Prix today. It was a pleasure of having him at the comms, where he goes to register now for a 220 euro tournament called the Goodbye Sunday tournament. It is actually being played out in the same room as where the feature table is standing, so we didn’t lose him completely just yet!

We had the pleasure with PokerListings of doing some content with Matt, who is a top bloke to have around. He is exactly like you see him on his streams, down to earth, entertaining when it needs to be, and professional.

Ritrovato goes out in 5th (€ 30,100) 03.10.2023 17:33 by Melvin Schroen

Ritrovato, who got a penalty for his Italian language use before, went out in 5th place. He has kept himself very quite throughout the final table, besides a 3-bet in the beginning of the unofficial final table, he didn’t get much going.

Salvatore finally found a decent hand and went all-in for his last remaining 1,6M (3BB), he got called by the Argentinian Jacques Blit, and from Favaloro as well. They all saw a flop of 9 K 8 , and Favalero and Blit checked down the A turn and the 5 . When the cards were opened, Salvatore could start packing his bags, to hit the rail.

No title for Cyprus this time! 03.10.2023 17:09 by Melvin Schroen

Marios Mansour, one of the shorter stacks at the start of this final day of the Grand Prix event, moved already quite as few times all-in throughout the period of play, but never got a call from anyone. Until this hand:

Mansour reraised all-in with Q 7 on the flop which showed 6 10 7 , and Ferro with the immediate call with A 10 .

The turn have an A and left Mansour just with two outs to stay alive. With the 2 on the river, his tournament was over.

Mansour, whose partner was railing throughout the entire tournament closely, got a very decent result and perhaps it ramps up his motivation to do well during the Europeans Poker Tour, later in Cyprus. He had a great experience in Malta, even though he hoped for a better result of course. He cashed for € 19,600.00.

In the meantime 03.10.2023 16:33 by Melvin Schroen

Salvatore Ritrovato got a penalty for speaking Italian at the table, where only english is allowed. One orbit penalty for him unfortunately, but this didn’t stop him from taking some bunny hops in terms of prize money.

Juuso Keskitola hits the rail in 7th place (€ 13,600) 03.10.2023 16:31 by Melvin Schroen

With six players remaining, Juuso Keskitola would become the next player at risk in this Final Table which is quite eventful so far. Not too long ago Juuso had 51 big blinds, up until he was

Nastasi opened the action and raised it up to 900,000. Keskitola found a monster hand and made a 3-bet to 2,700,000. Nastasi didn’t thought for a bit how he would want to approach this situation, before announcing the 4-bet to 4,400,000. Keskitola was for the rough decision and shoved all-in and got an insta call from Nastasi. Two massive stacks colliding with each other!

Nastasi: K K

Keskitalo: A K

The board ran out J 8 3 , and the 9 on the turn, and the 6 completed the board. Juuso is out!

Benelli out in 7th 03.10.2023 16:16 by Melvin Schroen

Andrea Benelli, 2-time 4th place finisher during an European Poker Tour Main Event, goes down in 8th place for € 10,800.00. The keu spot which resulted in almost hitting the rail directly, was the previous hand mention in this blog. Tens versus Queens.

In the last hand, he threw in his 1,5 big blind with A J and was up against the Q J of Ferro, and the K 10 of Ritrovato, and to make it worse, also the Q 3 of Eros Nastasi.

Flop brought K 7 2 , and it was time for blood shedding action as Ritrovato flopped top-pair, and Nastasi is drawing to a flush. After a check around, the 5 on the turn made Ritrovato shoved his stack into the middle. Everyone else went out of the way, and Benelli was in bad shape. Even more when the 2 hit the river, that Nastasi would have given the flush eventually.

Benelli is out!

Benelli loses some 03.10.2023 16:05 by Melvin Schroen

Benelli opened from the CU, and Favaloro 3-bet from the SB with Q Q . After a long tank, Benelli went all-in and Favaloro called instantly.

Benelli: 10 10

Board ran out : 9 3 8 3 2

Favaloro chiped up to 23M. Benelli down to 2 big blinds.

Final 8 03.10.2023 15:16 by Melvin Schroen

We have gathered some information which we would like to share with you all:

  • Andreas Benelli from Italy has had 2x 4th place finish during an EPT Pokerstars Main Event. One of these results, in San-Remo, it was eventually Victoria Coren who got the Title and the 1st prize. The other one was during EPT Deauville.

  • Jacques Blit is a partypoker Passport-holder, who got to Malta with a bunch of friends who also won a package worth $10,000. Interesting of this is that they won that package prior the Covid-19 period.
  • Salvatore Ritrovato is like a kid in a candy store here at Portomaso Casino. Presumably in top-3 players of enjoyed the most poker tournaments here in Malta in the past 10 years.
  • Juuso Keskitalo is a pure cash/online/home game player. Practically no live tournament results besides a min-cash.
  • Eros Nastasi is a known name in the Italian poker industry. He has qualified himself through one of the ‘remote’ opening flights, being played out in Sicily with roughly 65 players. 10 of them advanced to Day 2, played out here at Portomaso Casino, Malta.
  • Jacques Blit had won two massive all-ins on Day 3, one of them with Ace-King versus Ace-King, making a flush with his King.
  • Mansour

Shorter stacks active in the early hands 03.10.2023 13:46 by Melvin Schroen
  • Ferro is one of the bigger stacks and we saw him applying pressure from the late positions already. Salvatore had enough of that, and 3-bet from the SB when Ferro opened from the button. Ferro quickly folded.

  • When Andrea Benelli opened from UTG position, it was Cypriot Marios Mansour who went all-in from the big blind. Benelli thoughr for a bit before open folding 5 5 .
  • Luciano Borghetti went all-in from the CU, but everyone folded. He showed Q A .

Partypoker Grand Prix €1M GTD – Final Nine Players! 03.10.2023 13:24 by Melvin Schroen

We are live at the Portomaso Casino for the conclusion of the Grand Prix Malta 2023, powered by partypoker. The last nine players are all seated and we will play down to 8 players at first, to have the Official Final Table. On that moment, the live stream will start as well. We will keep you posted about that.

It all started today with very enjoyable conversations with the players. We know for example that Jacques Blit arrived in Malta, by winning a package worth €10,000, and this stop was the last chance to make use of it. He had won the package back in 2020!

Good Luck to all the players!

Tough time for Borghetti 03.10.2023 00:58 by Melvin Schroen

Luciano Borghetti, already for a long while in the poker industry, was the first one to act and he had his cards in front of him, but just over the line. It seemed that he usually plays like that. He did however play with chips as well and put a pile of around 8 to 10 chips of 100,000 each across the line and place them on the table, and picking them up quickly again.

The dealer called the floor, and the floor ruled it would be a call of the big bling, for 250,000. Small Blind limped in, and the big blind checked.

Flop came [Qx][5x][5x], flop was some action, turn arrived a [3x]. After both players checked, they saw the [Kx] river. On which it went all-in. Borghetti showed [Kx][10x], but Ritrovato showed [9x][5x] for a flopped 3-of-a-kind.

Montagnolli out of the Grand Prix 03.10.2023 00:44 by Melvin Schroen

Montagnolli was on the big blind and saw the button opening the action. The small blind limped in, and Montagnolli decided it was time to shove it all-in for his 9M stack. The button went out of the way, but Nastasi made the call.

Nastasi: A Q

Montagnolli: 3 3

We were off to the races and it would become a photo finish! The flop came K 6 4 . Nothing wrong for Montagnolli just yet, but it became worse when the board paired with the 6 . The river would bust Montagnolli out of the tournament 4 .

He would have hoped it to be different today, where he also busted out of the WCOOP 1K Main Event Day 2.

Former chip leaders Favalaro and Ferro double up 03.10.2023 00:07 by Melvin Schroen
  • Favalaro was all-in and at risk against Azzipardi, and it would turn out to be a classic flip. Jacks for Favalaro and Azzipardi with Ace-Queen. The board remaining low ball, and Favalaro chipped up to 7M.
  • The action went extremely fast but we saw Ferro doubling up with A 8 . His two-pair on the flop held up until the board was fully dealt. He would move up to 6M chips.
  • We would also have a bust out! Azzipardi went out in 12th place against Eros Nastasi. His Ace-King could not win from the pocket 8’s of Nastasi who would catapult himself into the lead. He plays around 17M chips.
We have Two tables left 02.10.2023 23:12 by Melvin Schroen

Blinds: 100,000/200,000/200,000

Players: 13/2,327

The two table captains are Pierre Azzopardi from Malta, and Jacques Blit from Argentina. Both are playing roughly 15M chips at the moment.

Italy versus Argentina 02.10.2023 23:03 by Melvin Schroen

Angelo Patana re-raised from the big blind against an open from the button. Button went out of the way, but the small blind moved suddenly all-in, on which Patana made the call. It was the a classing Ace-King against Ace-King for a lot of chips, and Patana was the one at risk.

Patana asked the dealer for a rainbow flop. But two clubs appeared on the flop, followed by two more clubs on the turn and the river, giving a flush to Blit from Argentina. A massive pot going into the direction of the world champion of football.

Just like in Football, Italians can have a bit of a temper, and Patana kicked away a chair from the table before leaving to the cash out desk.

What a Hand! 02.10.2023 22:31 by Melvin Schroen

We are playing blinds 75,000/150,000/150,000 and Fausto went all-in from UTG for 2,125,000. The player on the button decided to just make the call, leaving behind 5M. Then it all kicked off, when Andrea Benelli from the big blind announced to reshove all-in for 4,650,000.

After some thinking, Caravaglio who was at the button, decided to make the call and we would get a massive showdown:

Fausto Tantillo: 10 10

Caravaglio Q K

Benelli Q Q

The overall punt would be around 12M chips!

Every missed on the board with 7 2 A 8 8 and Benelli made a fist pump to celebrate his big win.

Khazaradze goes out in 22nd place 02.10.2023 21:40 by Melvin Schroen

Luciano Borghetti went all-in preflop for what looked like about 2,000,000 in chips. His neighbour, Khazaradze, made quickly the call and after the rest went out of the way, it was time to for a showdown:

Borghetti: A K

Khazaradze: K K

On the flop, Borghetti already would take the lead A 3 5 , and with the 2 on the turn, there were still chances for Khazaradze to stay alive, but the 6 appeared on the river and it was end of story for the player from Georgia.

Fausto Tantillo takes down Dutchman 02.10.2023 21:01 by Melvin Schroen

The bust out already happened, but we understood that Tantillo had pocket Jacks and won on a Queen-High board. Tantillo chips up to 5,000,000.

Owen hands in chips to Marcello Favaloro 02.10.2023 20:51 by Melvin Schroen

We joined the action when the board ran out 3 Q 2 10 until the turn. Owen lead the dance with a bet to 800,000 into a pot of around 2M. Favaloro put Owen to the test and made the jam. On which Owen went strongly into the tank, before mucking his cards.

With this hand, we have a new sheriff in town.

Marco Patane cannot believe it! 02.10.2023 16:57 by Melvin Schroen

Marco Patana started off as chip leader today with 5,550,000 in chips. We are roughly two hours later, and he is one of the shorter stacks of the field.

  • Lost [Qx][9x] against A 8 when being all-in on turn. He turned three-of-a-kind and got a two-outer against him on the river as his opponent made a bigger full-house.
  • Just recently, he lost [Ax][Kx] against [Ax][Qx], when a Queen landed on the river.

He did lose another big all-in, but we do not have any information about the hands.

Masimiliano Ferro takes the Lead 02.10.2023 16:37 by Melvin Schroen

Ferro just took down a reasonable pot which brings him into the lead of the tournament, as he is playing now close to 8,000,000 in chips. He busted out Gaspare Sposato who had turned himself two-pair (King-Seven). Ferro however, had made flush on the river with his 10 9 .

Aces do not Always win 02.10.2023 16:26 by Melvin Schroen

While I was trying to note down some chip counts, action unfolded at a couple tables. It is local Brian Calleja who busted out Romanian Pavle Pecelj from the tournament when his A K made a flush on the turn, while be all-in preflop.

We got to see pocket Aces cracked twice! in a few minutes time.

  • Another Maltese, Pierre Azzopardi, got lucky with a runner-runner with his [Kx][10x] against Aces, making a straight.
  • Luciano Borghetti had also [Kx][10x] and made a runner-runner as well! to make a straight.

Kuceruks gets bad news 02.10.2023 15:54 by Melvin Schroen

Kucerusk, a latvian poker player who made it through to Day 3 of this Grand Prix event in Malta just got busted out of the tournament. Leaving his fellow countryman Dzintars Lacis as the only Latvian survivor in this spectacle.

He was all-in with A 8 against the 10 Q of Samuel Olava Quesada. The flop have 10 10 6 , and Kucerusk could not find that one miracle to stay alive.

With the pot odds calculator you can define these all-in situations in percentages.

Nastasi is here to Win 02.10.2023 15:45 by Melvin Schroen

Eros Nastasi, one of the many Italians out here, just got a massive pile of chips pushed towards him as he busted out a player with powerful play.

  • Nastasi was at the Small Blind, and made a 3-bet to 400,000. His opponent made the call and both saw the flop of 6 J 3 . First one to act, Nastasi, continued for 350,000 which got quickly called. The turn Q made Nastasi put in the tank, before barrelling through with 525,000. His opponent thought for a bit, and announced himself to be all-in. It was not much which Nastasi had to add to it to make the call, and so he did.

Nastasi: Q 9

Opponent: A J

The river was neither of his opponent’s cards, and Nastasi chipped up to approximately 5,000,000 in chips.

Montagnolli Stays Alive with a Miracle River Card 02.10.2023 15:26 by Melvin Schroen

We arrived at table #1 where Montagnolli was involved in a battle with Marco Patane. With 200,000 in the pot, it was Montagnolli who lead the flop of 5 Q A with a bet of 100,000. Patana, who was on the big blind position, opted to reraise that bet up to 350,000, which quickly got called by Montagnolli. Both players saw the Q land on the turn. Montagnolli check-raised all-in for his remaining 775,000 chips and got instantly called by Patane, Montagnolli was in bad shape:

Montagnolli: A 8

Patana: Q 9

You can see it coming when reading the title of this post…. The A arrived on the river!

Gutted feeling for Patana, and Montagnolli ramps up to over 2,000,000 chips.

Bodea first one to bust 02.10.2023 15:19 by Melvin Schroen

Rares-Aurelian Bodea is the first player who got knocked out on Day 3 of the Grand Prix. He got it in with [Ax][Jx], but was up against Aces. His opponent held up, and Bodea is out.

England vs. Scotland 02.10.2023 02:26 by Melvin Schroen

Paul Hopper from England went all-in for his last 10 big blinds and got called by Scottish Michael Matar. Hopper had the goods and showed [Ax][Qx], while Matar only could put [Ax][Jx] against it. The board remained low with [3x][2x][6x], and the turn have some split-pot options with the [5x]. The river, however, have a [6x], and this battle got won by Hopper.

He plays approximately 1M now, whereas Matar has got 1,5M.

Another Maltese involved in big pot 02.10.2023 02:20 by Melvin Schroen

Local Brian Colleja gave me a sign that something was about to happen, where he might had jinxed the action with. Luca Palloni was all-in for 490,000, equal to 12 big blinds. When everyone was out of the way, Colleja directly made the call and shower A A . Palloni was at risk with K K , but when the first window card directly was a King, it became very difficult for the Maltese Colleja to take down the pot suddenly.

Colleja loses a big chunk of his stack, which is unfortunate for the kind Maltese.

Tantillo takes the Lead 02.10.2023 02:14 by Melvin Schroen

We arrived at the table of Tantillo and he was involved a 3-way battle. Where one player was all-in, he was head-to-head with another big stacked player with the name Massimiliano Ferro. After already 2M was in the middle, the flop was dealt 9 9 3 . Tantillo continued for 575,000, on which Ferro found a fold. When Ferro was out of the way, the showdown took place. The player at risk had A K , and Tantillo had Q Q which held with a dry board completing it.

Tantillo chips up to over 5M in chips.

The last Turbo Flight of Day 1 ended with a blind level of 15,000/30,000/30,000, while other levels ended with blind levels which were much lower than that, it must feel a bit strange to some of the players who were qualified through that turbo flight.

We are now 6-hours of play into Day 2, and it will take one more hour to get to the same blind level as where the turbo flight had ended.

An extreme version of roll-back of the blinds, but the outcome was the same. 15% of the field went through, one way or another.

MILLIONS Update 01.10.2023 22:20 by Melvin Schroen

We got ourselves a winner in the € 3,000 Millions event! It is Marious Trattou from the UK, who shipped yet another High Roller! With four players left he had won a massive pot with K J vs A J when the board ran out 9 10 10 K 9 . And after that, he was unstoppable and eventually winning the heads-up with a massive clash with his Aces against the Ace-Queen of Domenico Gala.

It was a great coincidence story again as I met Marious yesterday before the start of Day 2 of the event. We spoke a bit about previous experiences on the tour, and he mentioned he had won a High Roller event in Paris not too long ago. He was looking to better that result, and look at that!

We spoke shortly with #4 of the tournament as well, Matt Staples. He was very satisfied with the result he got. Tomorrow we will speak with him more specifically. To be continued!

Isaia is out 01.10.2023 20:07 by Melvin Schroen

#8 Of the All-Time Money list of Italy is out!

Alessio Isaia walked to the pay-out desk, and it still was a bit of a surprise as he had 935,000 chips to begin with today. Applying pressure on the right moments is something we had seen of him earlier on, but it shows once again that it does not matter how much you have cashed in your life, even in 550s you can bust at any time.

  • Player all-in with 80,000 on blinds 15,000/30,000. The big blind is a big stack and he calls it off with any two. Player at risk had [Ax][Kx] and the big blind had [8x][3x]. An ace on the flop would seal the deal for the short stack and he doubled up.
  • A player was allin with [5x][6x] as he was forced all-in approximately, if he would have looked around, he would have thought twice about the hand perhaps. He was called by the initial raiser with [Kx][Jx]. The board gave a King and the job was done. We had one of the two players bust to conclude this flight.
  • One player had to bust and then carnage started. Player was at risk with [Ax][4x], he was put at risk by someone who had him covered, and he showed [4x][6x]. The flop turn would give a straight to the player in the big blind, but the river gave a split pot with a [6x].
  • At another table it was very intense. The small blind had just 2,000 behind, but folded when the CU went all-in. This because the big blind was forced all-in. However, the big blind won with [Qx][3x] against the pocked 9’s from his opponent. So another double up.
  • The fifth all-in during the hand-for-hand play had another player at risk. This time it would be the final hand. He lost with [9x][2x] against [Ax][Jx].

We are going to take a small break now and will join the action at Day 2 in roughly 30 minutes from now.

Grand Prix 1H coming close to an end 01.10.2023 15:59 by Melvin Schroen

Level 16: 8,000/16,000/16,000

Players: 67/290

Average: 216,000

In this flight, it’s the first time we reached a blind level higher than level 15. And we are not there yet, more than 20 players still need to bust before we reach the end of this flight. The roll-back will be massive in the blinds levels to Day 2, but it does remain a crapshoot at this point in flight 1H.

Level 12: 2,500/5,000/5,000

Players: 113/290

The Grand Prix event now officially surpassed its registration period. With Day 1H being played out at this very moment, there will be added 44 more players for Day 2, which is being played out tonight at 19:00 CET.

As it’s a turbo opening flight, the famous words ”Seat Open” are being shouted by the dealers from any direction in the poker room, with the blind levels being very decent already. Previous flights ended in level 15, but we might go higher than that in here.

For Day 2, there will be a roll-back to blinds 3,000/6,000/6,000.

We will get the numbers later when they will be announced at the start of Day 2, but our calculation shows the following:

Prize Pool of the Grand Prix now exceeding € 1M! 01.10.2023 13:29 by Melvin Schroen

DUe to a stunning 288 entries in the last turbo flight of the Grand Prix, and with late registration open for one more level of 20 minutes, the prize pool now exceeded the € 1,000,000. It surely is a surprise to us, seeing so many players in the last turbo flight. But it shows, once again, that Malta is truly a good destination for us poker fanatics. There is nowhere to hide that thought, of Portomaso Casino being one of the greatest poker temples out there.

Grand Prix Day 1H – Final Call for Players who want to proceed to Day 2 01.10.2023 11:16 by Melvin Schroen

We are on the verge of kicking off with the last opening flight of the Grand Prix event in Malta here at the partypoker MILLIONS. It is the last chance for players to try and build a stack. At 11:00 CET cards will go in the air, of which we are very curious how many players will show up. Usually, the final flight has got a lower attendance rate then other opening flights of a Main Event, but Malta is full of surprises! The opening flights from yesterday were well visited, with 308 entries on Day 1F, and 354 on Day 1G.

Later today, Day 2 will kick off!

Its over! 30.09.2023 22:45 by Melvin Schroen

Day 1F just came to an end when Mateusz Kozuch was basically automatically all-in on the big blind, he got a call from Valter Miceli on the button.

Miceli needed help with his 4 6 , while Kozuch had [Qx][7x]. Every player in the room gathered as per usual around the table to see the outcome of the hand, and what a sensational end it was!

Flop 6 6 6 !!!

Turn and the river were dealt for the show as well, before players could go back to their seats to bag and tag.

We will come back later with the chip counts, but for today we will close up the live blog.

See you tomorrow for the final opening flight of the Grand Prix event, followed by Day 2!

Hand-for-Hand – Grand Prix 1F 30.09.2023 22:38 by Melvin Schroen

We need to lose one more player until players can start bagging up their chips. It came twice to an all-in, but nobody had to go out of the tournament just yet.

  • Valter Miceli was at risk with J Q , against pocket sevens of Televantou. With a Queen directly in the window, Miceli took the lead, and held up until the board was fully dealt. He plays around 450,000 now, and Televantou left with a couple chips, approximately 100,000.
  • Marco Maggio was at risk, when he had his short stack in the middle. When the cards opened up, he showed Aces, while his opponent had 10 7 . With a Rainbow-flop and no card hit for his opponent, there wasn’t much wrong. But with another spade on the turn, the flush became a possibility. Maggio held up with his aces and survived. He plays around 200,000 now.
Pavle Pecelj takes one 30.09.2023 22:00 by Melvin Schroen

Pecelj had called from the big blind pre-flop, after Ribatallada had opened the action to 25,000 from the button. Pecelj asked how much the Spaniard was playing prior calling the raise.

Flop 3 5 5

They tangled on the flop, bringing the size of the pot to 180,000.

Turn gave the Q and now Pecelj put in a decent bet of 57,000. Ribatallada went for a long time in the tank, being part of his game strategy it seems. He generously folded his hand and play resumed.

Pecelj is looking for yet another cash in a big live event here in Malta as he had cashed in the Battle of Malta Main Event earlier this year, as well as at the Malta Poker Festival Main Event.

53 players left 30.09.2023 21:43 by Melvin Schroen

We are left with 53 players, which means that 7 of them need to bust and we can bag and tag for today! Allesandro De Leo is the only remaining Maltese in this fight.

Grand Prix Day 1G update 30.09.2023 21:26 by Melvin Schroen

Day 1G took control of the biggest opening flight of them all. With a whopping 324 entries, and 4 levels of late registration left, there is plenty to fight for in the main poker room upstairs.

Pham Hong Thi Minh doubles up! 30.09.2023 20:24 by Melvin Schroen

Players: 72/308

With only one female player remaining in this flight, all the hopes were set on her to get qualified for the Day 2 tomorrow. She found herself all-in and at risk, but easily doubled up her stack of 70,400 when she won the flip with pocket Jacks against Ace-King of her opponent. She plays now about 150,000, which is good for 25 big blinds.

Ferro takes some of Gnoli 30.09.2023 20:18 by Melvin Schroen

We arrived at table 9, where two Italians clashed with each other. In a 3-betted pot pre-flop, Ferro continued for 32,000 on a flop of K 5 10 . Before his raise, the pot was about 80,000. Gnoli called the flop raise of Ferro, but folded when Ferro barrelled the turn as well with a raise to 61,000. Nice hand of Ferro, who adds a significant pot to his stack.

Dorian Hem with Daily Quads 30.09.2023 19:50 by Melvin Schroen

Dorian Hem, a French poker player, just got involved in a reasonable sized pot where four players saw a flop of 2 Q 3 . He got one of his opponents to stay in involved and both saw the 3 on the turn. With allmost 80,000 in the post, Hem raised on the river to 35,000, but got an unfortunate fold of his opponent after being in the tank for a while. He then showed 3 3 for his Daily Quads.

Luca Pagano – Living Poker Legend from Italy 30.09.2023 19:24 by Melvin Schroen

Sometimes poker tournaments are full of surprises. So it’s the case here in Malta at the partypoker Grand Prix. We already knew that this event was absolutely splashed with Italians, but to have the honour of having Luca Pagano at the tables, has to be called unique.

We know Luca mostly from the EPT events of PokerStars, where he final tabled a stunning 3 Main Events in one year, including the Grand Final in Monaco. With a total of $2,2M in cashes, he dropped to position #14 of the Italian All-Time money list. Lately he hasn’t added any results to his list since 2017.

Speaking of that list, #8 Allessio Isaia is also here as he played flight 1D yesterday.

Update: You can call it coincidence, but while writing this post he got busted out of the tournament.

All players who will survive, will lock up a min cash, and will be qualified for Day 2 tomorrow. It’s an important stage in this live tournament currently, where finding the right spots is crucial.

Matt Staples knows all about it, although he is more of an online player and doesn’t have much live results just yet. As part of Team partypoker, he is crushing it in the MILLIONS event, which is ongoing in the main poker room on the stage.

Overlay Alert! 30.09.2023 16:57 by Melvin Schroen

You never know what the future will bring, but the chance of getting an overlay edition here in Malta at the Grand Prix is starting to become reality. The guaranteed € 1,000,000 prize pool needs dozens of more players and with Day 1F now surpassing the 300 entries as we speak, and Day 1G set to kick off with 70 registered players at 18:00 CET, it won’t even be a close call.

For the next available flight at 18:00 CET today, already 44 players registered, but for sure the ones who bust in the 1F, will try their luck in 1G.

Asif ‘Poker Tourist’ Warris – Qualifier partypoker Millions through the PokerListings satellite 30.09.2023 14:51 by Melvin Schroen

Ten days ago, PokerListings hosted an online satellite on partypoker where you could win a package worth €1,500 for the partypoker Grand Prix event in Malta. Asif Warris from Manchester, United Kingdom, won that package and is playing now Day 1F of the Grand Prix event. Included in the package was a Grand Prix ticket of €550, hotel for 5 nights, and €250 for expenses. A great deal, and just for €5 he is now part of an event which had a guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000!

Will he turn his €5 into a Grand Prix victory?

His nickname ‘Poker Tourist’, he explained to us a couple days back. Asif doesn’t just like poker when he is travelling for poker. He enjoys all the cities he is going to, and has very good tips for players where to go to, and what you should avoid doing. You can find him on social media with the same nickname.

Average: 56,500

Starting Stack: 50,000

We are playing in the poker room at the ground floor, but it seems they will be opening the tables in the main poker room upstairs shortly. Almost all poker tables are in use, as yet another satellite kicked off for the Grand Prix flight of tonight with almost 100 runners.

For this flight of the Grand Prix, Day 1F, there are more than five levels of late registration left.

Strategy Tips 30.09.2023 14:05 by Melvin Schroen

The use of real-time assistants during a poker tournament is forbidden. The poker industry is hyped with this topic lately, so let’s give you a poker tool which you can use after the hand you played instead.

With this tool, you can calculate the odds of your hole cards, so you can check out if you made the right play. To study your poker game is the key to success, and perhaps you will end up winning a grand poker event!

The Maltese players are slowly entering this event. During Day 1F, we have currently five entries, but tonight will become a Maltese party for sure with Day 1G starting at 18:00 CET.

Grand Prix Day 1F – 216 entries to begin with! 30.09.2023 13:08 by Melvin Schroen

We arrived at Portomaso Casino today for Day 1F of the partypoker Grand Prix event, and perhaps the most important one of them all. Today we expect the biggest opening flights, and there is a big chance on overlay in this event. At this very moment, including the 216 entries of Day 1F, there would be an overlay of over €330,000!

Although we still have two opening flights left, and late registration is open until 19:15 CET for this current flight, this is the event you want to be at. For a mere € 550, you might just take down one of the greatest events of the year..

Goivanni Sutero bubbles Day 1e of €1M GTD Grand Prix event 29.09.2023 22:13 by Melvin Schroen

We came down to hand-for-hand play and so were all remaining players standing around table number 9 as it was announced two players were all-in. It was Sutero at risk against Giulio di Salvo, who had plenty of chips behind. Sutero saw the bad news when the cards got opened up. His Ace-Jack was way behind against the Ace-King of Di Salvo. [5x][Kx][5x] on the flop and a [2x] on the turn, would make him drawing dead, to become the bubble of this flight.

Day 1e is currently in full swing with 174 entries so far.

We bag up our live blog for today, and will provide you with the full recap of today as soon as possible.

Mike Alonso survives on the Bubble 29.09.2023 22:03 by Melvin Schroen

Mike Alonso was all-in during the hand-for-hand play on this opening flight of the Grand Prix event, and was at risk as Dario Pieruzinni made the call . When the cards eventually could be opened up, it was clear that Alonso was in good shape with his Queens, against the pocket 6’s of Pieruzinni. No help came for Dario, and Alonso double up to a healthy, above average, stack.

Alessio Isaia – Number #6 on the Italian All-Time money list 29.09.2023 21:33 by Melvin Schroen

When you have to deal with very decent players, you can find out pretty easily often. Same goes for Isaia, not too long ago he put himself into the chip lead making a hero call for a huge pot, now he is applying pressure on the shorter stacks as he knows that the end is near, and people just want to survive to Day 2. He is number 6 of the Italian All-Time money list, having a total of $2,878,836 in live career earnings.

Sadly we don’t have pictures of him from this event yet.

Mark Vella still in the Game 29.09.2023 21:14 by Melvin Schroen

Local Hero Mark Vella is running deep as per usual, in a Main Event. From as long as I know him, I only see him making good runs. Will he reward these runs also with a great win? He has at least yet another chance to do this. If he wants to find a bag today, four more players need to bust.

Mark Vella is already for a decade party of the Maltese poker community. In every poker series being held on the rock, he is at least in one tournament showing his presence.

Fabio Anobile goes out in 40th place 29.09.2023 21:08 by Melvin Schroen

Fabio Anobile, from what we know a good online regular, just went out of the tournament when his [Ax][Jx] could not win from 10 J . The board remained 10-high and we lost Anobile, who had taken a lot of initiative throughout the tournament. He was among the chip leaders at some point, but didn’t manage to secure this position in the end.

The last break of the Day for players of flight 1d 29.09.2023 20:42 by Melvin Schroen

Level 14: 4,000/8,000/8,000

Players: 40/208

Average: 253,500

9 More players we would need to lose to find the end of this Grand Prix. Players will return in 15 minutes again for the remaining time of this tournament.

The last hand before the break it was Isaia who took a huge chip lead when he called the river push from his opponent after a long time in the tank. He called it off with [Ax][5x], and the board had given an Ace and a King, with a couple of low cards. His opponent showed pocket 3’s, and couldn’t believe the hero call from Isaia and left the table in great disappointment.

Christos Tomas was almost got away from a massive defeat 29.09.2023 19:44 by Melvin Schroen

Christos Tomas was up against Italian Giulio Gallo. The hand would turn out in a massive cooler.

We arrived at the table when the flop have A 5 J . With approximately 40,000 in the middle already, Gallo had bet 23,000 after the check of Tomas. Tomas decided to make the call, and both saw the 3 on the turn.

Gallo felt that he had something on his hook, and made a powerful bet of 75,000, on which Tomas went into the tank. It took a while, and for me as a writer it was either great theatre play, or he had a real tough cookie to crumble. It would be eventually the last option, as he went all-in after a long while. Gallo had no time to think, as he already opened up his cards after saying the worst word in the eyes of Tomas, ”Call”.

Tomas: A K

Gallo A A

Even Gallo had hit top set, Tomas was still alive drawing to a flush. It wasn’t the case in this fairy-tale, as the river would bring a J , giving a full-house to Gallo.

Cassetta goes out of Day 1d 29.09.2023 19:21 by Melvin Schroen

Level 12: 2,500/5,000/5,000

Players: 57/208

Average: 182,500

Cassette was all-in for his remaining 107,500 and got called by Guiseppe Tarsia, who had around 150,000 in total. When the cards went open, it was a bit surprising as Cassette was still 22 big blinds deep.

Cassette: A 3

Tarsia: 10 10

The board ran out 3 6 J 8 K , which made it happen that Cassette left the room. Not before turned around for a second, as Tarsia was shouting a loud ‘Yessssss’.

Dario Pieruzzini jumps into top of the chip counts 29.09.2023 19:03 by Melvin Schroen

The Italian just took down a pot when his Jacks held up against the King-Queen suited of his opponent. With this win, he is among the top stacks at the moment. With only 63 players remaining, and blinds on 2,000/4,000/4,000, playing around 100 big blinds is a very comfortable position to be in.

202 entries so far at Day 1d – last level of late registration 29.09.2023 17:52 by Melvin Schroen

Last level of the registration available at Day 1d. With 202 entries, and the 89 entries of Day 1e, there is just over half a million Euro in the prize pool at this point. That value is important in poker is known, but will value hunters show up?

In the next break, we will take out notable chip counts. As per usual, we play down to 15% of the field remains.

Molenaar, runner-up of yesterdays’ High Roller, out from the Grand Prix 29.09.2023 17:32 by Melvin Schroen

Not too long ago, Michel Molenaar decided it was time to jump into the Grand Prix event Day 1d. After a runner-up result in the Hydra High Roller yesterday for €49,632, he was ready for yet another battle at the tables. Unfortunately for him, his Ace-King did not hold against his opponents Jack-Ten, and was send early to the cash desk. Where he immediately registered himself for Day 1e, going on upstairs in the main poker room.

Rahal got send to the Rail 29.09.2023 17:08 by Melvin Schroen

Rahal opened up the action and got a 3-bet against him from Flaviano Cammisuli. Without any thoughts he put his chips into the middle, and got an even faster call of the Italian Cammisuli. Rahal had a decent had with Ace-Queen, but was far behind against the Ace-King of Cammisuli, especially when the flop gave [Kx][9x][9x]. Never a hand without a sweat as they say, so the turn was a {Jx], giving Rahal flush- and straight options. Sadly for him the river was a blank.

Day 1e about to start (18:00 CET) 29.09.2023 16:56 by Melvin Schroen

46 Players already registered for the second opening flight today, Day 1e. And of course, the vast majority is Italian with approximately 80% of the field.

An Orbit with Table #3 29.09.2023 15:45 by Melvin Schroen

Blinds: 800/1,600/1,600

Players: 126/184

Average: 73,016

Start Stack: 50,000

Hand 1: Allegra opened the action, and got an all-in against him of Hinton. Allegra had Ace-King, Hinton King-Ten, board showed 10 and a King, leaving Allegra cripled.

Hand 2: Allegra all-in for his remaining 2,000 and triples up with Ace-Nine against the blinds.

Hand 3: Caenen opens to 3,600 and gets four players to call. Flop brings A 10 5 , c-bet of the Belgian with one caller left. Turn 10 he checks, Rahal all-in, and got called by Caenen. Caenen sees bad news as he has [Ax][Qx], versus Rahals flopped flush 7 9 . No help on river and Rahal doubles up

Hand 4: We missed the action but Allegra doubled up again!

Hand 5: Hinton opens pre and continues on a King-high flop. Makes a c-bet and everyone folds. Showed the King, and said he had an Ace as well.

Hand 6: Rahal opened action pre, turn check around, Yanigro bets turn, and folds on big river bet of Rahal.

Hand 7: Vella opens, Allegra all-in for 17,000. Vella calls. Ace-Queen for Vella, Kings for Allegra. Turn and River show a Queen. Allegra to the rail!

Hand 8: Yanigro opens the action, big blind Hinto calls. Flop shows K-8-5. C-bet Yanigro and Hinton folds immediatelly showing 7 2 .

Players are now on break!

We have already 176 entries so far in Day 1D of the Grand Prix, where Olivier Klat from France is having the chip lead. Let’s see if he can manoeuvre himself throughout the day. With about 3 hours of late registration available, we expect more players to join this flight.

Interesting to see is that the Maltese players seem to avoid the event, as their attendance remains to a handful of local players. (Not involving the foreigners who reside in Malta)

Day 1d can be titled as ‘The Italian Grind’ 29.09.2023 14:05 by Melvin Schroen

Partypoker € 3,000 Millions – Day 1a well attended with 47 entries 29.09.2023 13:37 by Melvin Schroen

Besides the € 1M guaranteed Grand Prix Main Event, and the € 5,300 Hydra High Roller event, there was yet another grand event on the schedule with the € 3,000 Millions event.

Scott Wellenbach, Dominik Nitsche, Dzimitry Urbanovich, Matt Staples, and Thomas Clack, were all in the mix, but did not all manage to find a bag on the end of the day. With Day 1b on the schedule today, we are expecting many players of such calibre to return to Portomaso Casino to try and make their way up the ranks, especially since the major events online such as the WCOOP, are quite calm today.

Grand Prix Day 1c – Chip Counts 29.09.2023 11:03 by Melvin Schroen

Yesterday on Day 1c of the Grand Prix, a total of 151 entries were made throughout the day. It was eventually the Italian Daniel Montagnolli who bagged up most of the chips, putting him currently in 2nd place overall. The whole flight was quite eventful, with many Italian players all over the place.

We have seen plenty of action at the Portomaso Casino here in Malta, with the Hydra High Roller coming to an end as well. It was eventually Belgian poker pro Bart Lybaert who took down the event, besting Dutchman Michel Molenaar Heads Up. Another Dutch star, perhaps the biggest name out here so far, Teun Mulder, couldn’t get involved the battle as he finished in 4th place.

We are now preparing for perhaps, potentially, the biggest day at the partypoker Millions event until now, with Day 1d and 1e on the schedule. The Millions tournament also has its second opening flight scheduled, where will see interesting names passing by for sure.

Here are the chip counts for the Grand Prix Day 1c:

50 out of 151 entrants remaining 29.09.2023 00:32 by Melvin Schroen

The late registration period has finished, and so are we going down to the final 15% of the field. All players who will bag and tag on the end of the day, will be in the money in this event.

There are still quite some players who need to bust until we reach the end of Day 1c though, we will keep you posted in the morning with all the chip counts of the remaining players.

Day 1 of the PokerListings Live Blog is hereby done for today.

Also the Hydra High Roller, which has currently 9 players left still will play down towards the money has been reached.

Break time! 28.09.2023 22:02 by Melvin Schroen

Level 8: 1,000/2,000/2,000

Players: 88/137

Average: 77,841

We just finished level 7, soon we will enter the last 3 blind levels of the late registration period, after this break. The entry counter shows us now 136, but will increase perhaps a bit more today. What we didn’t consider in the beginning, but did know about, is that also a bunch of players qualified themselves online for the 2nd day of the Grand Prix event this Sunday. We are coming back on this topic later on.

Georgiadis isn’t particularly afraid 28.09.2023 21:26 by Melvin Schroen

We arrive on table #2, where Ivonne Montealegre is sitting as well. We didn’t see the action before, but we could see the player in UTG position was all-in for 48,100 and got a call from his neighbour, who had chips behind as well. The player in the button tanked for a while but then decided to fold, having said to have a decent pair thrown into the muck.

When the cards had to be opened, Georgiadis showed surprisingly K 3 , and was behind against the Queens from his neighbour.

Luckily for Georgiadis, a King appeared directly in the window, and managed to hold all the way. It’s a double up for player from Cyprus.

Giulio Gallo busts one 28.09.2023 20:54 by Melvin Schroen

Perhaps not one of the most fanciest hands of poker history, but Gallo just busted out a player when being way ahead with his [Qx][Ax] against [Qx][9x] of his opponent. It went all-in on a Q-high flop, and with two lower cards than the nine completing the board, Gallo could add the whole pot to his stack.

Merendino escapes on the river 28.09.2023 20:44 by Melvin Schroen

We arrived at table 9 when there was already around 20,000 in the middle. Merendino put out a heavy bet of 20,500 on a Q 3 10 flop. On which Montagnolli, which sounds Italian as well, but Austrian on paper, put all his chips into the middle. He got quickly called as it wasn’t that much more as the initial raise of Merendino.

Merendino K Q

Montagnolli K K

The turn came A giving plenty of shoppertunities, and with the J on the river, both players made a straight. Merendino laughed out loud and Montagnolli must have cried a bit from inside. On to the next!

Level 5: 400/800/800

Players: 94/109

Average: 58,000

Like in all starting stages of an opening flight, it is going slowly forward. 15 Players bust so far, and the counter tells us: 109 entries. Surely, it will increase as we still have another five levels of late registration after the current blind level.

Some of the players mentioned below, are currently in the lead of this flight.

Hydra High Roller Update 28.09.2023 19:45 by Melvin Schroen

At this very moment, the 13 remaining players of the Hydra High Roller are on a well-deserved break. With only 6 players in the money, and a min cash of roughly € 15,000, there is a long way ahead still. Michel Molenaar, who also won the high roller at the PokerStars Summer Festival not too long ago here in Malta for € 53,440, is having the chip lead at the moment. Bart Lybaert and Teun Mulder just behind him.

Ivonne Montealegre – Women in Poker – Present at Day 1c 28.09.2023 19:38 by Melvin Schroen

Look who we have here! Ivonne Montealegre is warming up for her own event, later this month in Malta. The Malta Poker Festival, a similar event to the partypoker Grand Prix, but with a slightly lower guaranteed prize pool, is already for almost a decade one of Maltese eye-catchers of the poker industry. It’s one of these grand events, which puts Malta on the radar of many poker players all around the world.

Ivonne is a big factor in Europe’s poker environment. With the effort of such people, the industry keeps growing, and tournaments will grow to new dimensions, like never seen before.

Previously during the partypoker Millions, she participated in the Ladies Event, one of her main goals in todays’ poker.

Adam Owen 28.09.2023 19:01 by Melvin Schroen

Adam Owen is another familiar face in the poker industry, which prioritizes the partypoker Millions above any other event going on this week such as the WCOOP, WSOP Online, and WSOPC Rozvadov.

With over $3,5M in total career live earnings, he is currently #26 on England’s All-Time Money List. Today he is playing Day 1c of the Grand Prix event, trying to build momentum, so he can bag a nice stack for Day 2, upcoming Sunday.

Adam Owen, mixed games specialist from the UK, and over $3,5M in total career earnings. This week he is present at the partypoker Millions Malta 2023.

Level 3: 200/400/400

Players: 88/92

Dario Barone from Italy decided today to try his luck in Day 1c. If you look back on his results the last couple months in Malta, you can see that he is doing very well for himself.

He is a man on a mission, let’s see if we will see him back in the later stages of this Grand Prix event.

During the first two opening flights, a total of 430 entries were made. Today, on Day 1c, we are expecting a decent amount of entries. Currently, 37 players are already registered, and with the late registration available for the first 10 levels of each 40-minutes, it will increase rapidly.

50,000 Chips will be the starting stack, and everyone will be looking to top Argentinian Jacques Blit, who ended up with 1,226,000 chips in an earlier opening flight.

Good Luck to all the players!
