WSOP 3-Bet: JRB Moment of Truth, Hellmuth 7-Spot, HOF is Now

Jean-Robert Bellande
Is this JRB's time to shine?

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a zig-zag t-shirt, a faithful canine and one heartpounding run towards the afternoon poker news football.

Have a tip from in or around the Rio? Let us know in the comments.

Today in the 3-Bet we find a gargantuan opportunity teed up for JRB, Phil Hellmuth positions himself for a run at #15 and 2015 nominations open for the Poker Hall of Fame.

1) You're a Good Man, JRB

JRB as CB
New day for JRB?

Is today the day poker's perennial Charlie Brown - aka Jean-Robert Bellande - gets the Broke-Living monkey off his back?

Bellande has put himself in the most Bellandian of positions today by making the final six of the prestigious $50k Poker Players Championship.

He's already locked up at least $184,222, of which he says he'll keep 85%. But if he wins ... that's a $1.2m payout and the de facto title of "poker's best all-around" player.

If he busts, well ... that's kinda JRB's thing.

Can the world continue to revolve around its axis if he actually wins? Can JRB stick with his "broke living" schtick if he's a legit PPC champ? Will Charlie finally get to kick the football through the uprights?

It's almost too much to bear, and all part of an epic 9-event schedule today at the Rio.

Tune in for the PPC live stream (with no hole cards) at 2 pm PT right here and check here for updates on the giant slate of events.

2) Hellmuth 7/41 in Event #47

Speaking of things to keep an eye on today, poker's other favorite whipping boy, Phil Hellmuth, is back in his saddle doing what he does best: running deep in big-field No-Limit Hold'em events.

Phil Hellmuth
This is what he does, people.

Hellmuth has already snapped up his 14th WSOP bracelet this year in the $10k Razz Championship but make no mistake his wheelhouse is undoubtedly NLHE surrounded by amateurs.

He's put himself in another fantastic position to take a run for #15 today as he's 7th in chips with 41 players left in Event #47.

Simon Deadman, Carlos Mortensen, Andy Black, Jeff Gross and Andre Akkari are just a few of the tricky obstacles still in his path, but if history has shown us anything when Hellmuth gets a sniff of a final table he locks in his White Magic and performs his best.

Check the live updates here all day and watch for the live stream of the final table tomorrow.

3) Voting Open for 2015 Poker Hall of Fame Nominees

David Ulliott
Time to recognize the Fish.

Is it finally time Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott is enshrined in the Poker Hall of Fame? Thor Hansen? John Duthie? Carlos Mortensen?

If you want any say in the matter nominations are now open for the 2015 Poker Hall of Fame shortlist. Fans can vote online until August 15th for anyone they see fit.

You're welcome to submit a brief explanation along with your pick. The top 10 votegetters will then be reviewed by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council.

Existing HOF members and a media panel will vote for the final list of nominees with one or two eventually getting picked for enshrinement. A reminder of the criteria:

- Must have played poker against acknowledged top competition

      - Played for high stakes
      - Be minimum 40 years old at time of nomination
      - Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
      - Stood the test of time
      - For non-players: contributed to overall growth and success of the game of poker with indelible positive and lasting results.

Get your vote in right here. If you're still in a voting mood/want to recognize great players for their contributions to poker, vote for the 2015 Spirit of Poker Awards, too.
