Numerous poker rooms in Las Vegas have been either diminished or closed completely over the last five years but that trend may be coming to an end.

Wynn Las Vegas announced plans yesterday to move its poker room to a 8,600 square-foot room with space for 28 tables.

The new poker room will be located on the Encore side of the resort casino. The new facility is set to open sometime in May, which is just before the 2016 WSOP begins.

The new Wynn poker room is welcome news to poker players who have seen numerous poker rooms close over the last several years.

The Tropicana, The Linq, The Gold Coast, Plaza and Silverton Casino are just a handful of the properties that have permanently shuttered their poker rooms.

Most locations cited diminished profits compared to slot machines and an overall cooling of the poker trend.

That may be changing, however, as more casinos attempt to target a younger demographic that slot machines won’t attract.

The new poker room at Wynn will feature USB charging stations for personal electronics, 35 TVs for live sports and a nearby sportsbook.

Wynn’s management is hoping the new space will make the casino a premiere location for poker players. Management didn’t announce how much the renovation will cost.
