Adrián Mateos: Bubble Boy, Runner Up & Winner

For some magical reason, for nearly 10 years, things never quite went well for Adrián Mateos in the Poker Masters series — even when it moved online during the pandemic.

Up until 2026, he made only six ITMs there but without a single victory to his name:

Over the course of ten 2026 Poker Masters events, the Spanish virtuoso managed to bust on the stone bubble five times. But true poker mastery lies not in the ability to win consistently, but in perseverance and the consistency of high-quality level of one’s play. And Adrián is one of the few poker players in the world who has developed all the necessary skills for this to perfection.

His first reward for persistence was a second place in Event #2: $10,500 NLH, for which he received $151,200. The victory went to controversial influencer Nick Palma, who also earned $235,200 for the win.

The next two tournaments didn’t go well for Mateos, but he cruised to a win in Event #5: $10,500 NLH, taking home $229,500.

In Event #7: $15,700, he once again managed to finish in the money, taking 4th place and earning $87,000.

At this point, the poker gods had already realized Adrián was on track to become Player of the Series, so they let him skip the high-pressure final tables — and the prize money overall — in exchange for a fancy purple jacket.

Ultimately, although Mateos recorded only three ITMs, their quality made him the winner of the 2026 Poker Masters Leaderboard and once again confirmed his status as a legend.
