Red Wings hosting charity poker tournament
There's a good chance you can't outskate Henrik Zetterberg or fire a puck faster than Brian Rafalski but on March 3 you might be able to outplay them with your 9-7 offsuit.
Members of the 2007-08 Red Wings will be anteing up for charity by taking part in the MotorCity Casino's Red Wings Charity Poker Tournament. For a $500 donation to the Red Wings Foundation fans will get a chance to go head-to-head on the poker tables with their favorite hockey players.
The event will offer an auction on Red Wings gear as well as a cocktail reception at 4:30 p.m. in Iridescence - MotoCity Casino Hotel's AAA Four Diamond restaurant. The tournament will kickoff at 6 p.m. in the casino's poker room.
Every tournament participant will receive a complimentary stay in a standard gust room at the MotorCity Casino Hotel on March 3. The luxurious hotel offers 400 deluxe guestrooms, including several customizable suites. There are also large rooms available which average 455 square feet and feature imported 300-thread count bed linens, marble bathrooms with separate shower and soaking tub as well as individual climate control and daily turndown service.
"We are thrilled to be a part of this unique event with MotorCity Casino Hotel," said Red Wings' senior vice president of business affairs Steve Violetta on the team's website. "This promised to be an exciting evening for everyone and an entertaining way for our fans to help us raise funds for the Detroit Red Wings Foundation."
Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 finishers of the tournament including a grand prize trip for two with the team on Red Bird II to the March 25 game in St. Louis. The second-place finisher will receive a suite for a Red Wings' home game during the 2007-08 regular season. The third-place finisher will receive four tickets to a Red Wings' regular-season game including a meet-and-greet session with select players following the game while the fourth through 10th finishers will receive an autographed Red Wings' jersey.
The Red Wings Foundation supports several initiatives and organizations including the Development of Inner-City Youth Hockey, the Fight Against Cancer and a wide array of children's health, educational and recreational activities and other needs of the community through the sport of hockey.
