PokerStars to Open 24-Hour Live Poker Room in London
Online poker giant PokerStars.com has announced plans to open its first live poker room, promising it will be the most authentic, high-quality poker lounge in the UK.
Coming on the heels of PokerStars.com's acquisition of a casino in Atlantic City, PokerStars LIVE will be situated in the lavish Hippodrome Casino on Leicester Square and will open its doors March 3, 2013.
Originally constructed in 1900, the Hippodrome has been a circus, theater, cabaret and, since 2012, a casino.
“The Hippodrome Casino is the premier casino destination in London,” said UKIPT president and Head of Live Rooms for PokerStars Kirsty Thompson.
“Establishing this permanent PokerStars LIVE room will give more players the opportunity to play cash poker with the high-quality player experience that PokerStars is known for.”
PokerStars is promising a wide range of cash games as well as a new low buy-in tournament series presented by the UKIPT. The series kicks off with a £250 + £25 event running April 12 – 14.
And while PokerStars.com is busy designing a schedule that will appeal to poker players, the Hippodrome is making sure those players will be taken care of while they're grinding.
“The poker room’s luxury interior design has been developed to take poker to a new level, catching the interest of all national and international players,” said Hippodrome chairman Simon Thomas.
“It’s location in the ‘Gods’ is unique and our ambition is to create a fabulous environment in which to play poker, with great lighting, comfortable seating and the audiovisual support to the needs of the poker player.”
The new Hippodrome Casino launched in 2012 after a three-year, £40m refurbishment. It's now billed as the country's busiest casino.
