More for Mercier: Rising Star Adds WCOOP Title and $435k

There always seems to be reason for Jason Mercier to smile.

Jason Mercier has done it again.

The rising poker superstar, who already has an EPT win, WSOP Bracelet and EPT and NAPT High-Roller titles to go with the massive bankroll he’s built online, added a PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker title to his growing resume Tuesday morning and it was a big one.

The 42nd event on the WCOOP schedule was a two-day $1,050 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em $3 million Guaranteed tournament that drew 3,122 players.

When they reached Day 2 there was just 176 left in the hunt for the $491,715 first prize and Mercier was among the leaders.

As the masses fell by the wayside, Mercier held on to make the final table sitting in the middle of the pack.

However, after the two other biggest names left in the field, Team PokerStars Pro Chad Brown and Dani "supernova9" Stern, busted ninth and eighth respectively, Mercier found himself the short stack seven handed.

A double up with ace-queen besting fives righted the ship before he won another flip with ace-king versus pocket queens.

Suddenly well stacked, it appeared Mercier’s luck ran out when he ran queens into chip leader loooser17’s aces, but somehow he found a queen on the flop to avoid the rail and take the chip lead.

Three-handed, the remaining players made a deal that guaranteed Mercier $375,862.07, loooser17 $367,500.80 and osten $302,435.13, saving $15k for second and a WCOOP bracelet and $60k for first.

To no one’s surprise, loooser17 busted third and Mercier went on to claim victory heads-up over osten.

Below are the final table payouts for the event.

1 Jason Mercier $435,862.07

2 osten $317,435.13

7 bastet2004 $73,367.00
