The WPT lays siege to Malta this September.

Respected tournament director Matt Savage’s presence has been confirmed for a brand new stop on the World Poker Tour’s tenth season.

In the weeks leading up to the World Series of Poker Europe in Cannes, the WPT will be touching down in the Republic of Malta smack-dab in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

Matt Savage will be organizing the event in his role as Tour Director for the World Poker Tour.

The main event at WPT Malta will run September 20-24 at the Casino at Portomaso, 20 minutes from the capital city of Valetta.

“Portomaso in Malta is normally the home of super yachts but for four days in late September it will be home to WPT Malta,” said WPT President Adam Pliska.

“This Mediterranean hotspot already has poker in its veins so we hope that by introducing a World Poker Tour stop we will satisfy the desires of locals and the international contingent looking for some late summer sun,” he added.

WPT Malta is being added as a main stop on the tour’s schedule which means a seat to the $25,500 WPT Championship will be awarded to the tournament’s winner.

The WPT has timed their Malta event well to compliment other more established events happening around Europe shortly after.

The EPT London Festival of Poker begins September 30, followed by WSOP Europe in Cannes which begins October 7.

Top Brits Jake Cody and Matt Perrins have already been confirmed for WPT Malta. Both players won gold bracelets at the WSOP this summer in Las Vegas.

“I think we showed the strength of UK poker in Vegas this year and with many Europeans doing well, we want to make sure the big titles keep on coming,” said Cody.

There are now ten events confirmed on the WPT Season X schedule. Their next stop takes them to the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles later this month.
