Fortune Wheel Spin to Win

As we all know, the WSOP is the most prestigious poker tournament in the world.

While Americans dominate the all-time money lists, several British players have also found success at the annual events in Las Vegas. This year already saw record attendance at the tables, with said poker pros and amateurs making it across the Atlantic in the hopes of digging gold. And now, more players can qualify through online poker sites such as the ones listed on Casinowings.com. Some of the more fortunate ones included a Scotsman and a handful of Gents from England. So, without further ado, here are the top 5 UK players from the World Series of Poker 2023.

1. Dean Hutchison – $1,916,613

Hutchison is topping this list with almost 2 million dollars in cashes from this year’s WSOP. No one will argue that his 6th place finish ($1,850,000) in the Main Event helped him earn the crown. The new-found Scottish poker hero hasn’t been that successful in Vegas before that life-changing sum, but will most likely attend next year’s circuit and add on to his earnings. Off the felt, Hutchison enjoys traveling and spending time with his family – and we’re guessing they might be going someplace luxurious this Christmas.

2. Toby Lewis – $1,430,636

Lewis has found WSOP success in both tournaments and cash games over the past decade. The English pro has an impressive 47 cashes and over $2.6 million in earnings from the Circuit in total under his belt. Finishing in 7th place ($1,425,000) – one place worse than Hutchison – made him clinch the second spot on this list. Toby is a notorious online poker pro but will now always be remembered as a Main Event final tableist. When he’s not playing poker, Lewis enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.

3.   Ryan O’Donnell – $1,055,557

No one outside the live poker scene of London really knew who Ryan O’Donnell was before his prestigious 2nd place ($1,049,577) in the $25,000 High Roller. Prior to becoming a dollar millionaire, his winnings from live tournaments were sparse – since we had to go way back to WSOP 2012 to find the most notable cash ($24,390). However, we’re not going to take anything away from Ryan since he’s, ironically, a pretty household name on the online poker tables. And now he’s also a force not to be trifled with on the real felt as well.

4.   Talal Shakerchi – $1,014,116

Shakerchi has been participating in the WSOP Circuit since 2008 when the second wave of the Poker boom emerged. Since then, he’s tallied up 16 cashes, earning over 2 million dollars in tournament winnings. This year’s World Series of Poker could’ve seen him grabbing his first Bracelet, but he just missed out after losing the Heads-up match ($818,756) against Brian Rast in the honorable $50,000 Poker Players Championship. Besides poker, Talal is a notorious chess player and investment shark – the perfect mix to become successful at the tables in Vegas it seems.

5.   Stephen Chidwick – $751,477

Last, but definitely not least, we have the seasoned pro Stephen Chidwick. The Englishman could not replicate the Bracelet success story from 2019, but were awfully close coming in 2nd ($653,688) in a $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Texas Hold’em Championship. He “only” cashed in four events in this year’s WSOP but still managed to grab a spot on this Top 5 list. At only 34 years old, he’s already been racking up over 5 million dollars in winnings both online and offline in the Circuit – chasing Sam Trickett ($11,694,374) on the WSOP All Time Money Leaderboard.

Stephen Chidwick

Meanwhile, the UK poker scene remains strong with famous live tournaments throughout the year. Since the WSOP saw a lot of new faces and freshly made poker millionaires, the Circuit around the Isles will surely be packed. If we have to place a low-odds guess, the next generation of British pros will look to follow in the footsteps of Hutchison, Lewis, O’Donnell, Shakerchi, and Chidwick by finding success on poker’s biggest stage – the World Series of Poker.

The Coolbet Open in Banco Casino Bratislava was a resounding success, attracting poker enthusiasts from around the world. Players hailing from Israel, Iceland, Norway, and Finland converged on the event, which featured an array of side events and a grand Main Event with a €550 buy-in and a guaranteed €300,000 prize pool. The majority of side events also offered substantial prize guarantees, creating an electric atmosphere that kept participants engaged throughout the week.

The highlight of the tournament was Ville Tapana Hakala’s remarkable performance. He not only claimed the Main Event title but also secured victory in the challenging 8-game poker tournament, walking away with an impressive €63,055 in total winnings. The event was covered live by PokerListings, providing fans with real-time updates and interesting insights.

Yehuda Yosef’s Standout Performance

Day 1 of the Main Event saw Yehuda Yosef shine. Despite facing adversity on Day 1a, Yosef made a triumphant comeback on Day 1c, ultimately seizing the overall chip lead with a staggering 861,000 chips, surpassing the 30,000 starting stack. Yosef’s success was partly attributed to sharing the table with chip leaders from the opening flight, allowing him to accumulate a substantial chip stack while enjoying the side events leading up to Day 2.

Thrilling Side Events

The week was loaded with exciting side events that boosted the Main Event’s thrill. Notable winners emerged from various tournaments, including Deep Singh, who claimed victory in the prestigious PokerListings Deepstack event, and Italy’s Dario Alioto, who triumphed in the PL Omaha event. The action also featured Maksym Ronshyn topping the €225 NLHE Re-entry tournament, Jiri Noga securing the High Roller title, and Merav Tehila being victorious in the Ladies event.

Coolbet Ambassador’s Success

Special Hyper Turbo events, inspired by Coolbet Ambassadors and Streamers like Ylva ‘Jevakim Thorsrud, Christian ‘Sycksbe’ Arstad, and Oskar and Jonatan ‘Wedde Brothers’ Wedde, added extra excitement. Christian ‘Sycksbe’ Arstad had an outstanding run throughout the Coolbet Open, showcasing his poker in multiple tournaments, including the Main Event, Turbo Main Event, his own Hyper Turbo, and the PokerListings Deepstack.

Streamers’ Success and International Participation

Remarkably, all Coolbet Streamers advanced to Day 2 of the Main Event, a significant achievement for the brand. Players from Israel, Iceland, and Austria, joined the competition, with notable participants such as Florian Fuchs, Jasmine Schuster, and Daniel Shaker. Florian Fuchs, a former ‘Grindhouse’ member, was among the friends who made it to the final day of the Main Event. The biggest surprise act of the week was the presence of Martin Kabrhel. The Czech player who is accused of potential cheating during High Roller events, did not make it through the first day of the Main Event. A fun fact was that when he was sent to the tv table before any player even sat down at the feature table, he took a card from the dealer to inspect it completely.

From 620 Entries to Final Day Drama

Out of the 620 initial entries, only 110 advanced to Day 2, each looking for a share of at least €1,005 and the coveted €60,000 first prize. The bubble play was protracted, partly due to the tournament’s split across two poker rooms. However, the Coolbet Open garnered significant attention, especially with the official Coolbet stream.

Intense Day 2 and Final Table Set

As Day 2 concluded, familiar names like Yehuda Yosef and Florian Fuchs held the top positions. Eventually, 16 players secured spots on Day 3, which marked the final day of the series. Day 3 witnessed rapid eliminations, with only 11 players remaining, a testament to the tournament’s deep structure featuring 1-hour levels. The final table was eventually set, with chip counts as follows:

Victory and Drama at the Final Table

Yehuda Yosef maintained a commanding lead, while shorter stacks like Aziz, Thorsrud, and Schuster took risks to accumulate more chips. Oystein Stai was the first to exit the final table, falling in 10th place when his Kings were defeated by Ville Hakala’s Aces.

Subsequently, the pace of eliminations accelerated, leading to Jasmine Schuster’s exit in 8th place as she ran her Ace-King into Ville Hakala’s Aces. Ville Hakala’s incredible run continued, with hands like Aces against Kings and Aces against Ace-King, ultimately resulting in Florian Fuchs’ elimination when his pocket 8’s faced Ace-King.

The Final Showdown and Ville Hakala’s Triumph

With only four players remaining, Ville Hakala halted Yehuda Yosef’s journey by besting his Ace-Jack with pocket 5’s, securing a four-of-a-kind. Maged Aziz, who started the final table as a short stack, eliminated Ylva ‘Jevakim’ Thorsrud, who also had a last-longer bet within her community. Ville Hakala was the last member of the community standing, earning an additional €300. Thorsrud couldn’t improve her King-Four against Aziz’s pocket 10’s.

The heads-up match saw Ville Hakala enter with a substantial chip lead, making his victory a mere formality. He eventually clinched the title with pocket 10’s, securing a €60,000 prize. Ville Hakala’s remarkable week marked his largest-ever live poker cash. A big congratulations to the Fin, Ville Hakala!

The 2023 poker year is destined to go out with a bang. This December, the biggest guaranteed prize pool tournament through all time will be played in Las Vegas, as the WPT World Championship will take over world’s gambling capital. With its $40 000 000 GTD, surely this live poker tournament will attract a swarm of poker players who all seek to close out 2023 with a giant title.

With its $10 400 buy-in, WPT World Championship should be considered as a tournament on the pricier side on the buy-in spectra. That’s why we’re thrilled to inform about all the amazing possibilities to qualify for the tournament over at WPT Global – for as little as $5!

Direct Qualifiers Every Sunday

Every Sunday, all players have the opportunity to participate in either the $220 or the $1 060 direct qualifier. $12 400 packages, including the tournament buy-in and an additional $2 000 to cover travel expenses, are up for grabs. To sweeten the deal, there are Satellites to the Qualifiers starting at just $5; truly a unique opportunity given by WPT Global.

WPT Global’s Scavenger Hunt

Through the Scavenger Hunt, you can seek your way into a Freeroll qualifier! During the week, there will be weekly challenges over at WPT Global; complete six of these in order to acquire a seat to the Sunday Freeroll which has one $12 400 package up for grabs. These challenges can be everything from depositing $20 or more, to play 100 PLO4/5 hands. Head over to WPT Global to read more about the Scavenger Hunt.

Online Fall Festival and Discord Tournament

Another way to qualify to the WPT World Championship, is through the Fall Festival running over at WPT Global between the 10th September and the 1st of October. The schedule offers 81 tournaments, and you receive leaderboard points based on your finishing position in these tournaments. The player who wins the leaderboard race, as well as the one who takes home the title in the Fall Festival Champion of Champions (which will be played at the end of the series) will receive one $12 400 WPT World Championship package each.

WPT Global Fall Festival 2023

Also, make sure you join the WPT Global Discord Channel! Every Sunday, $10 tournaments are being played which gives you points in the Discord Leaderboard. The player who finishes at the top of the leaderboard after the last tournament every month, wins a $12 400 package.

PLO, Sign Up-Bonuses and More!

All the PLO4 and/or PLO5 lovers could be recommended to hit the WPT Global Cash Game tables. By raking $25 000 between 4th of September and 26th of November, you’ll receive the $12 400 package.

Lastly, there are some ways to get free Satellite tickets, which hopefully will be your springboard to the Direct Qualifiers. New players can take advantage of Sign Up-bonuses; depending on how much you deposit, you will receive Satellite tickets.

When playing cash game in the Kings of Cash promotion, players will receive tickets for every 100 hands played. With two or more tickets in a week, you will be entitled to a Freeroll entry which could be into the $220, $55, or $22 satellite. The same goes for the weekly tournament leaderboard: top 100 for the week will earn a ticket to one of the three satellites listed above depending on their final placement.

As you can hear, there are numerous ways to qualify for the WPT World Championship. Good luck to all the WPT Global players in the hunt for glory!

The tour name is new, but the tour is not. PokerStars is set to begin its first official NACOOP, the North American Championship of Online Poker, on September 15.

If you’re thinking that some of the North American markets have hosted COOP series in past years, you would be correct. It was never billed as NACOOP, however. It was a set of separate COOP series for each one – New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania in the United States; and Ontario in Canada.

This year, it all falls under one acronym, presumably for easier tracking and an attempt to make the US markets into one happy family.

The bottom line is that NACOOP consists of:

  • PACOOP (PokerStars PA) in Pennsylvania, USA
  • USCOOP (PokerStars NJ & PokerStars MI) in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, USA
  • ONCOOP (PokerStars ON) in Ontario, Canada

Let’s get into it.

NACOOP for PA

PokerStars has a unique history with the Pennsylvania poker market, as it was the first poker site to launch in that state in late 2019. And it remained a monopoly there until Borgata and BetMGM launched their products, followed by the WSOP in mid-2021 – more than a year and a half after PokerStars opened its virtual doors.

That means that poker players in PA are very familiar with PACOOP. This year, it will still operate alone, as Pennsylvania has yet to sign the Multi State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) to join its player pools with New Jersey and Michigan.

So, PokerStars PA will offer PACOOP…under the NACOOP series umbrella.

  • Total trophy tournaments:  19
  • Total guarantees:  $2.5 million
  • Main Event: $300 buy-in with $250K guaranteed

NACOOP for NJ and MI

PokerStars was not the first poker site to launch in New Jersey, but its history dates back to 2016. And New Jersey poker players are well-versed in what they knew as NJCOOP. The operator then launched in Michigan in January 2021, a first in that state, and ran MICOOP there.

Since then, the governors of Michigan and New Jersey signed the aforementioned MSIGA, allowing PokerStars to combine its player pools. That is now referred to as USCOOP. (Presumably, when other states like Pennsylvania do finally join, they will all play on one site that will be collectively PokerStars USA.)

For the USCOOP series this year, PokerStars NJ and MI players will compete in the series with these highlights:

  • Total trophy tournaments:  19
  • Total guarantees:  $3 million
  • Main Event: $300 buy-in with $350K guaranteed

NACOOP for ON in CA

The Ontario market is the first segregated online poker market in Canada, and it became a reality in April 2022. PokerStars wasn’t the first to launch in the province, but it did join in June 2022, shortly after the official market kickoff.

PokerStars gave Ontario the ONCOOP. It remains the only separate market in Canada still, so it has not joined its player pool with any other in Canada because…there is no other. ONCOOP stands alone, and it will run a solo series…but it will now also be under the NACOOP umbrella.

The 2023 version of ONCOOP in NACOOP will feature these highlights:

  • Total trophy tournaments:  17 (out of 137 total tournaments)
  • Total guarantees:  $1.5 million (translating to approximately CAD$2 million)
  • Main Event: $300 buy-in with $150K guarantee

Full NACOOP Commonalities

The full NACOOP will run September 15 through October 7. Across the jurisdictions, there will be 315 poker tournaments in total, including 61 trophy events and $7 million in prize pool guarantees.

Each area participating in NACOOP will run a leaderboard contest to award the top performers in each market for collecting the most points in their respective markets.

There is another perk for players competing in this NACOOP, as the winner of each of the three Main Event tournaments will win a Vegas Gold Pass. That new promotion will present each Main Event winner with a $20,300-valued prize package. Each package will include:

  • Seat to $5,300 NAPT (North American Poker Tour, resurrected) Las Vegas High Roller (Nov 10-12)
  • Three-day pass to Oracle Red Bull Racing Fan Experience to watch the F1 make its Las Vegas debut (Nov 10-12)
  • Nine nights of hotel accommodations at Resorts World Las Vegas
  • Flight and expense money of $4,000 cash

We write Friday, 8th of September, live from Banco Casino in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Coolbet Open is going towards the final weekend of the Main Event. The last starting flights are being played out, and as per usual, the expectations for the last couple of flights are set high. The guarantee needs to be reached, and it would be a close call to have it reached. Besides the Main Event, the mixed games players would be ready for the 8-Game tournament to start, together with other events such as the No Limit Texas Hold’em Turbo, Jevakim’s Hyper Turbo, and the NLHE Re-Entry tournament.

The Main Event, would have some interesting sign ups on Day 1e, as Martin Kabrhel from Czech Republic registered himself just prior the end of the registration period. The controversial poker player is a big fan of the game, in his own words, and plays events from as low as €125 all the way up to €250,000 buy-in events. During the World Series, he was accused of cheating by potentially marking the cards, which directly got an interesting aspect here at the Coolbet Open. Once he knew he was going to be seated at the Feature Table, the first thing he did was taking a card from the table when no player was seated yet. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t manage to find a bag, neither in 1e or in 1f.

Last Starting Flights of Day 1 Coolbet Open Main Event

Day 1e would be the ultimate flight to gather the most chips, as the expectations were set high for the attendance of the players. Eventually there would be 196 players on the sheet. With Martin Kabrhel as highlight of the day. The High Roller decided to once again make an appearance here at the Banco Casino in Bratislava, as he joined in on the action during the Polish Poker Days prior to the Coolbet Open event. 29 Players would remain for Day 2, and the chip leader comes from Hungary, Nagy Barnabas with 775,000 chips. Strangely enough, it was not enough for the overall chiplead as Yehuda Yosef gathered 861,000 on Day 1c.

The feature table was going to be fully focused on the Main Event again today, as they played the Coolbet Nations Cup Final yesterday on stream. With plenty of action in the first couple of hours at the feature table, suddenly Martin Kabrhel walked in, and just a level after he found himself at the feature table. Not for long, as he busted out of the tournament approximately one hour after that.

Many players took much risk before the end of the registration period, so that if they would bust out, they could re-enter in the turbo flight which started at 21:00 CET. That turbo flight, gathered another 79 entries, of which 22 would remain. With that number, the guarantee was reached and the champagne could be opened here in Bratislava.

Side Events

The mixed games players would be served according to their wishes with an 8-Game tournament and a buy-in of € 165, and a guarantee prize pool of € 4,750. Eventually there would be 85 players, which doubled the initial prize pool. It was eventually Ville Hakala who would become the winner of the event at 6 AM in the morning, as he bested Michael Hagstrom from Sweden in an heads-up battle which lasted only 10 minutes.

Recap Day 5: Gudjon Ivar Jonsson

Hakala would take home € 3,055 for his victory. Other side events were the € 60 rebuy tournament, € 225 nlhe tournament, € 115 Jevakim’s Hyper Turbo, and the One-Hand Satellites would kick off as well, where you could win a seat in the Main Event Day 1f turbo. All results can be found under the results tab.

On a pleasant Thursday, the 7th of September, Bratislava came alive with the excitement of the Coolbet Open. The day was filled with anticipation as both Day 1c and Day 1d of the Coolbet Main Event were on the schedule, alongside the thrilling final of the Coolbet Nations Cup. In a dramatic showdown, the victory ultimately belonged to Chile, as the skilful Luis Araneda outmatched Estonian contender Taavi Vaelisson in a gripping heads-up battle. Araneda secured a grand prize of €10,000, while Vaelisson had to settle for a still impressive €6,000. Amidst the intense poker action, an exciting event awaited participants on the picturesque lakeside of Bratislava – a thrilling session of wakeboarding.

The Banco Casino was buzzing with energy, its poker rooms brimming with eager players. The side events boasted top-notch competition, and the cash games were in full swing, with every table in the cash area occupied. PokerListings was on hand to capture every moment of these thrilling events, and now, let’s take a closer look at the highlights from this memorable day!

Day 1C Attracts 169 Players

Day 1c of the Main Event kicked off with a strong showing, attracting a total of 105 entries. Players were prepared for another gruelling day of intense live poker action. Notably, a slew of familiar names who hadn’t managed to secure a bag on the previous flights decided to take another shot at it. Among these seasoned participants were Oskar Wedde, Marius Morel, Christian Arstad, Oystein Brenden, and Philipp Sander, all of whom are well-known regulars at the Coolbet Open. Their determination to find a bag by the end of the day was evident.

Adding to the mix was Yehuda Yosef from Israel, who had been eliminated from Day 1a just before the close of play. Yosef, feeling confident in his abilities, was eager to rejoin the action and make a strong comeback.

Eventually, the total amount of entries would be 169, which was a great number of entries when looking at the high number of entries in those events. Only 23 players survived the day, after a good eleven hours of play. Unfortunately, Romanian Alexandru Budai, who was our player in the spotlight, didn’t manage to stay in the game. We will see him back on the last couple of opening flights for sure.

Yehuda would end the day with a staggering 861,000 chips, which is more than double as the chip leader of the previous flights. Oskar Wedde, who came on the table of Yehuda, read the Israelien well enough to conclude he would be playing extremely loose to try and accumulate more chips. He then took great advantage of it by scooping a nice pot with [Kx][7x], against the [Kx][2x] of Yehuda. From there onwards, Wedde would start building up momentum, to eventually finish the day with 256,000.

Another notable name is Manuel Blaschke from Austria. He is definitely one of the strong competitors to look out for on day 2 of this Coolbet Open Main Event. With victories on events such as the EPT, Unibet Deepstack, and Concorde Millions, he gathered himself over €500,000 in live career earnings. Including in all of his cashes, there is also a victory in the PokerListings Championship and the Banco Casino Masters, last year in Bratislava.

Jan Arthur Svendsen, the founder of the brand Coolbet, also visited sunny Bratislava for the live edition of the Coolbet Open. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t manage to stay in the game on Day 1c, but thankfully he managed to find a bag on Day 1d instead.

Fellow poker players, may we have your attention. You now have a unique opportunity to qualify for the Enjoy Poker Series Main Event in Uruguay between the 7th and 16th of October through ACR Poker!

The Enjoy Poker series has been an appreciated feature in the international poker schedule, and it just keeps getting better and better every year. This year’s Main Event with its $1 000+$100 Buy-in is something you definitely don’t want to miss out on, and with the opportunity to qualify in for free (!) over at ACR Poker, the opportunity to make poker history is certainly within the grasp!

How Do You Qualify for the Main Event?

Yes, ACR Poker has indeed provided us with a more than generous way to win a $5 000 package to the Enjoy Poker Series Main Event. The two upcoming Sundays, the 10th and the 17th, two Main Satellites will be played starting at 15:00 ET. The Buy-in for these poker tournaments stands at $109, but here comes the sweetener: you can sub-satellite your way into the Main Satellite – for free!

The path you hopefully will walk is Freeroll>$11 Satellite>Main $109 Satellite, and hopefully you will claim one of the guaranteed 10 packages when you’ve finally reached the final step. Of course, there are good chances that the amount of packages will exceed the guaranteed 10, considering the increasing popularity of the Enjoy Poker Series Main Event.

A Package for the Ages!

As previously stated, the package is valued to $5 000. Except the Buy-in for the $1 000+$100 Main Event, the package also includes €1 500 in travel expenses, $500 in spending money, as well as a nine night stay at the Enjoy Punta Del Este Resort and Casino. It is almost impossible to describe how beautiful this Uruguayan resort is. Located on the country’s Atlantic Coast, the 294-room resort offers nine restaurants and charming bars, top-notch spa facilities and treatments, an everything-you-can-ask-for convention center, and of course, an ocean view that, when the sun goes down, surely will make your jaw drop.

ACR Poker Has Done It Again!

ACR Poker, former Americas Cardroom, runs this promotion a couple times every year and it just keeps getting better and better. With ambassadors such as the legendary Chris Moneymaker in the ACR Pro team, there’s no coincidence that ACR Poker always have been a respected piece on the poker chess board.

Earlier this summer, Americas Cardroom announced their relaunch and became ACR Poker. This meant a new modern software that has been very appreciated among poker players the last few months. This also brought an updated website with a very clean and user-friendly look, where one also can browse the store looking for some sweet merchandise.

A poker adventure in the tropical environment of Uruguay. Can it get any better? We don’t think so, which is why it’s a no-brainer to take your shot in the Freeroll Satellite to take you all the way to the Enjoy Punta Del Este Resort and Casino for free. Good luck to all the players qualifying!

Picture a whole series which consists of low buy-ins with an enormously big GTD prize pool. Sounds too good to be true? Well, then you obviously haven’t heard of the Micro Thunder Series VI over at Global Poker!

Starting this Sunday, the 10th of September, lasting a whole week before finishing the 17th, Global Poker and the Micro Thunder Series VI offers a poker tournament schedule that surely will be one for the ages. There’s a real smorgasbord of tournaments for both the Gold Coins- and Sweeps Coins-players, so let’s dive right in and see what the fuzz is all about!

37 Gold Coin Events With a 26 775 000 GTD!

37 GC events will be played during the series with a relative gigantic guaranteed prize pool, considering the buy-in starts from mere 250. We’re talking Progressive Bounties, Re-buys and Deepstack tournaments, so it’s indeed only to choose your preferable format. The tournament that will be on most GC players mind will obviously be the Main Event (3 000 000 GTD) which is scheduled to start Sunday the 17th.

Except for the whooping 26 775 000 GTD in the 37 different events, there’s also extraordinary merchandise for all the final table players in each tournament. All the players who reach the final table will be awarded with a Micro Thunder Series pin, keychain and hat, as well as an entry to the “Gods of Thunder”-event, a GC event that will finish off the series the 17th with a 600 000 GC guarantee. Except parts of the merchandise listed above, the winner of each event will also receive a physical “Fist Of Lightning Trophy”. Boy, wouldn’t that look good at the top of your fireplace? The GC players will also have the opportunity to participate in any of the Night Rumble events, which suits the night owl poker player.

Sweeps Coin Players Will Have the Time of Their Lives!

The Sweeps Coin tournament schedule is somewhat similar to the GC calendar. 37 unique events including the Main Event which will we played parallel to the GC edition, Sunday 17th. SC 15 000 is set aside to the Main Event from the overall 75 700 GTD during the whole series. The winner of a SC event will also receive a “Fist Of Lighting Trophy”, as well as an entry to the SC version of the “Gods of Thunder” event.

Gods of Thunder, You Say?

Let’s talk a little bit more about the “Gods of Thunder” tournaments which will finish off the series. Only the 37 GC event winners will qualify for the GC version of “Gods of Thunder”, and the same obviously goes for the SC edition. Except for the prize pool, there is a lot of merchandise at stakes here as well, and maybe the most prestigious one is the God of Thunder winner hoodie!

The Micro Thunder Series VI is not something that any serious poker player wants to miss. Satellites to both Main Events are already running at Global Poker since the 4th, so make sure to visit the Global Poker client and browse through the appealing tournament schedule.

Zeus is watching from the skies with pride over the Micro Thunder Series VI! Best of luck to all the participants!

We are just one week shy of the WSOPC in Tallinn – the first ever WSOPC event in northern Europe! The extraordinary Olympic Park Casino will act host for this historic festival which is played during the period 14th-24th of September. The €1 000 000 GTD Mail Event aside, there are more than 40 side events which guarantees a lot of action-packed and enjoyable poker.

First Ever Queens of Tallinn During WSOPC!

While Queens of Tallinn has been an appreciated event in Estonia during Kings Of Tallinn previous years, the ladies-only event have never been played during the WSOPC, which is what makes this edition of the poker tournament more exciting than ever. There is no secret that poker historically has been a male-dominated sport, but the female scene is growing larger and larger every year with a lot of skilled and competitive prospects joining the scene.

During the WSPOC Tallinn, the Queens of Tallinn event will be played the 23rd of September, and the tournament will surely be an appreciated feature with its deep stack-structure of 20 000 chips and 20 minutes long blinds periods. It is also possible for late registration and rebuy during the first eight periods. The buy-in for the tournament is €130+€20.

Free-Of-Charge Satellite to Queens of Tallinn!

While the tournament will deal its first hand 15:00 GMT+3, there is a generous Freezeout satellite which starts at 12:00 the same day. Generous indeed: the tournament is of the Freeroll nature, which means that all you ladies are given the opportunity to win your way to the Queens of Tallinn event without risking so much as a mere cent. The top five in the satellite will receive a ticket to the tournament for free; make sure you do not miss out on this unique opportunity! The satellite has a somewhat speedier structure with its 10k start stack and 10 minutes blinds levels.

Previous Queens of Tallinn Champions

As previously mentioned, Queens of Tallinn has been a successful event throughout the years in the Estonian capital. In fact, one of the biggest ladies-only event was played earlier this year during the Kings of Tallinn. A total of 95 players entered the tournament which meant a prize pool of €9 120. After a three-way deal, it was fittingly enough the Estonian-native Ingrid Pall who conquered and claimed her €1 780 alongside the trophy. Tallinn-local players Kirsti Kirs (€2 145) and Evely Pihela (€1 655) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively; Pihela, who also finished third in another Queens of Tallinn event which was played July this year during the Kings of Tallinn Summer Showdown. Will she land yet another 3rd place finish during the WSOPC, or will this be her time to lift the trophy?

Yes, Queens Of Tallinn will surely be an interesting feature in the WSOP Circuit Tallinn schedule, and it’s possible that it will be the biggest ladies-only event through all time. For all the players, male or female, make sure to take a gander at the full tournament schedule and book your stay in Tallinn for what will be one of 2023’s best poker festivals.

We wish good luck to all players who will battle it out at the 2023 WSOP Circuit Tallinn!

The Coolbet Open in Bratislava is on its way and oh boy what do we like it here. With so many different nationalities, coming from all over the world such as Chile, Israel, Iceland, Norway, and even The Netherlands and Belgium. Poker players were all having their eyes on the opening day of the Main Event, with day 1a on the schedule. Day 1b, a turbo variant, was about to be played in the evening hours. Both opening flights would have 14 blind levels to be played, resulting in many casualties who will have to fire another bullet to be able to reach the second starting day.

Yesterday it was also the kick-off from the Coolbet Streamers Hyper Turbo events, this time it was named after the Wedde Brothers from Norway. Mixed Games fanatics would also be served according to their wishes, as the Pot-Limit Omaha tournament was scheduled for the afternoon as well. PokerListings took care of the Coolbet Open live blog for all events and will continue to do so throughout this entire event.

Main Event Day 1A

The opening flight of the Main Event attracted a whopping 97 entries, which is very decent for the first flight. Eventually, it would be Jacob Malloul from Israel topping the chip counts by expanding his 30,000 starting stack to a casual 407,000. With 14 levels to be played out of 45 minutes each, it was to be expected to be a survival of the fittest. Unfortunately, we would lose some great names just prior to the end of the day such as Jorge Cabrera and Sebastian Olivares from Chile. Also, names such as Leif Iversen, Karev Tralla, Lukasz Fraczek, Sturla Hiller, and Oystein Brenden, wouldn’t be able to bag and tag in the end.

Coolbet Open Bratislava 2023 Jorge Cabrera
Jorge Cabrera

Players who did reach it till the end of the day, and are able to focus themselves on the side events the coming days until Day 2 starts are chip leader Jacob Malloul, Ylva Thorsrud, Jeroen Aarts, Brandon Mifsud, and Oskari Piira. They were all part of the 15 survivors of the day.

With over six levels played, all chip counts were overall pretty on the same level, with just a couple of exceptions such as Rudolf Usa who had 4x starting stack at the beginning of the feature table, being streamed live on the official Twitch and Youtube channels of Coolbet. Also Rudolf Kosa from Austria gathered plenty of chips in the beginning, just like Karev Tralle from Estonia, who found himself on the good side of the coin when his 10 J flopped a Royal Flush draw against Sturla Hiller from Norway, who had Aces. By hitting two jacks on the turn and river, Tralla catapulted himself to a stack over 100,000 but soon followed by a bust out as he couldn’t hold his chips to his own.

Coolbet Open Bratislava 2023 Ylva Kim Thosrud
Ylva “Jevakim” Thorsrud

When coming closer towards the end of the registration period, it was Norwegian Coolbet Streamer Ylva Thorsrud (242,000) who managed to build herself a good stack. Also, fellow Norwegian Frode Hoel secured himself a spot on Day 2 but has rather work to do as he only bagged 50,000 chips in the end. Tamas Grabics from Hungary would be the surprise of the day, as he would have accumulated more than 200,000 in chips, and approximately 30 minutes later he stood up from his seat and left towards the rail as he had to give all of his chips to the leader of the day Jacob Malloul.

Side Events

Mixed Games and Hyper Turbo fans all had circled September 6th in their agenda, as it was time for the PL Omaha poker tournament and Wedde’s NLHE Hyper Turbo event. The numbers didn’t lie in the end, as respectively 113 and 131 entries were noted. Fantastic turnout, as the PL Omaha just had €5,000 guaranteed, but they quadrupled that!

In both events, the atmosphere was extremely good, mainly due to the high number of Norwegians who were responsible for half of the entries. Such tournaments are really the cherry on the pie, as everyone is bantering around, and having a cheeky drink here and there. Often players tend to forget that poker is not only a great competitive sport, but also a nice place to be part of.

All results from the side events can be found in the results tab in the live blog section.

Day 4 – Main Event 1C and 1D on the Schedule, and the Swedish Nations Cup Final!

The fourth day of the Coolbet Open is perhaps one of the days when most tournaments will start, alongside the Swedish Nations Cup Final. An event which already has eight finalists for the grand final, but one spot still needs to be secured for Sweden. In the grand final, a whopping €20,000 will be handed out to the top 3 players.

We from PokerListings, are focusing on the non-turbo flight of the Main Event, which is Day 1c, starting at 12:00 CET.

Good luck to all the players, and happy reading for the people at home!

The dust has settled in Spain’s second biggest city since EPT Barcelona finished, an event which kicked off the 21st of August and lasted 14 days, until the 3rd of September. It would however not be before August 27th until it was time for the prestigious Main Event to begin.

Barcelona has always been a popular stop on the EPT and 2023 showed to be no exception. 2 120 players came to start in the Main Event, and after the final hand was dealt on Sunday, the 30-year old Frenchman Simon Wiciak could reach his arms up to the sky in joy as he had conquered in his first ever EPT Main Event participation.

A Golden Run

Although Wiciak previously may be more known for his achievements on the online poker sites, there is no doubt that he can handle the live poker scene after this achievement. The La Rochelle-native just recently made the decision to play more live poker and his journey through the Main Event was somewhat smooth sailing. After finishing Day 4 as the chip lead, he would then keep the train going and was listed as number one on the chip counts the following three days.

PokerStars EPT Barcelona 2023 Main Event Table

For his win, Wiciak became entitled to €1,134,375 after a three-way ICM chop together with Brazil’s Joao Sydenstricker and Carl Shaw from the United Kingdom. It became clear how much this title means for Wiciak during his post-tournament interview: “It is everything at the same time – the win, the crew, the moment, the work I have done… You want to scream!” was his chosen words before posing with the stellar trophy for the cameras.

Finish With a Flourish

The win came in a somewhat dramatic fashion. Sydenstricker raised from the button with Q 10 and Wiciak decided to 3-bet with 6 5 to four million (blinds 200k/400k). After Sydenstricker decided to call, the flop showed 9 5 2 and the action went bet-call. The turn came 4 and after a check from Wiciak, it was now Sydenstricker who led out for 3,5 million, a bet which Wiciak called fairly quickly.

River 9 paired the board and after Wiciak checked, Sydenstricker went all in with his remaning 20 million as a bluff. Wiciak decided to use a timebank-chip: “I used a time bank. You don’t want to be wrong in this kind of situation”. After eventually making the call, the joy was overpowering.

The fact that Wiciak now is an EPT champion adds to an already impressive curriculum vitae. Before pursuing poker, the Frenchman had a career as an engineer, and before that, he was a very promising football prospect. There is no reason not to have high expectations on the 30-year old to keep being a big name on the poker scene, as he expressed his love for this “beautiful game”, and it will be exciting to see if he will be a continuous participant on the EPT going forward.

The next EPT stop will see poker history be written as it will be held in Cyprus for the first time ever! The festival will last 11th-22nd of October, with the Main Event having its first flight Monday 16th.

Today we had one poker tournament on the schedule and two satellite tournaments. The tournament was the PokerListings Deepstack tournament with a buy-in of €225 and a guaranteed prize pool of €20.000. The satellite tournaments were respectively for The Festival Series Bratislava later this year and for the Coolbet Open Main Event. It was to be expected that overlay might play a big role today, which eventually happened but by a small margin. The PokerListings Deepstack had plenty of runners today, which is a good sign for the Main Event starting tomorrow with its first flights, starting as of 12:00 CET and 21:00 CET. Besides all the poker, the weather was extremely good in Bratislava, and the atmosphere at the Banco Casino was ecstatic. The Coolbet Lounge opened up its door as well, for some casual games of Backgammon and lots of fun.

PokerListings Deepstack

The main attraction of today’s schedule was the PokerListings Deepstack. Many players decided to play the only real tournament on the schedule today, above the satellite events. Head of Poker Mauritz Altikardes was also in the mix, and the player who would bust him out of the tournament would receive a historical ‘Make Poker Great Again’ cap. Thankfully for the person who busted him, it was still early on the day, so he could protect himself better against the great sunshine outside. Known names as Christian Arstad, Jonathan and Oskar Wedde, Leif Iversen, Anne Bezdek, Sturla Hiller, Aneta Kalikova, and Jason Kiselis, all turned up to play some poker today, but unfortunately for all of them besides Christian, it was Game-Over before the money was reached.

Coolbet Open Bratislava 2023 PokerListings Deepstack

The money would be reached after 7 hours of play, mainly due to the Deepstack structure of course, the 25-minute blind levels, and the 12-level late registration period. It took some time still when the bubble had to burst, as several players just thought a bit longer than usual. That the shorter stacks found a double-up several times, didn’t speed up the game either. But when the bubble had burst, it was Norwegian Christian Arstad and Polish Dominik Ostrowski, who had the commanding chip lead in their hands. With 17 players left, it went pretty fast downhill for several players such as Magnus Christensen, Kjell Sterner, and Taavi Vaelisson.

When the final nine were reached, it was eventually Philipp Sander who went out directly as 9th. He couldn’t secure a double-up of his short stack. Soon followed by the Fin Hakala and Austrian Rapf. After this, there were two commanding chip leaders in the names of Ralbowski and Singh, who both had roughly 25% of the chips each.

Alexis Kivu, Christian Arstad, and Oskar Hastad, all had around ten big blinds and had to hope for a quick double-up. But action dropped a bit, as nobody seemed to risk their chips. Until Alexis Kivu found a double-up with his Ace-King against the Ace-Jack of Peter Ralbovski, leaving the Slovak in a tough spot with just shy over ten Big Blinds. It did not take long before he also lost those chips, finishing in 6th place.

Coolbet Open Bratislava 2023 PokerListings Deepstack Christian Arstad
Christian Arstad

It was time for some Norwegian action with Christian Arstad who was involved in a huge pot with five people remaining. Ostrowski from Poland called with a weaker Ace on an Ace-high board and didn’t improve against the Ace-Jack of Arstad, catapulting Arstad straight into the chip lead and half of the chips in play. The Pole was left with a couple of chips. But it was not the Pole who would get a hit next..

The two leaders of the game, Christian Arstad and Deep Sigh found a massive all-in situation, where Singh took it down with his Queens against the Ace-King of Arstad. Now Arstad was left bleeding, and Singh with an extraordinary lead over the rest of the field. Arstad then went all-in straight from the spot with pocket 3s, which couldn’t win off the 8’s from Hastad. Turned out to be that Sweden didn’t forget about the previous battle of the Scandinavians. Arstad finished in terrible fashion in 5th place.

One we almost forgot about, the Pole Ostrowski, gathered chips here and there before winning an all-in with Queen-Nine off, against the Ace-Eight suited from Harstad.

Then Deep Singh found it time to put use to his commanding chip lead and pushed around to the short stacks. Eventually winning with 6-7 off suit, against pocket 8’s of Harstad, and the 4-9 off suit from Alexis Kivu. A double elimination and we have a heads-up match!

The Heads-Up match for the great top prize and the trophy wouldn’t take much time this time around. Deep Singh was already dominating the end phase of the tournament and continued to do so during the last battle, even though he had lost some ground in the beginning of the match.

More than a decade ago, PokerStars was the king of all poker tours. It had its popular European Poker Tour (EPT), of course, but it had other regional tours around the world – UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT), PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT), Brazil Series of Poker (BSOP), and more. And in 2010, they added the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) to the schedule.

The shutdown of the largest poker sites in America on Black Friday (including PokerStars) put a glitch in every aspect of PokerStars but especially the NAPT. When the operator was forced out of the US market, the NAPT departed with it.

And now it’s back. Someone kept the logo, the trademarks, and the swag. PokerStars always intended to make a return to the USA, but the timetable depended on everything from indictments, arrests, fines, and penance. PokerStars did those things. And more than a decade after the shutdown in April 2011, the company is ready.

The NAPT is returning in 2023.

NAPT Relaunch Set for Vegas

PokerStars chose the gambling capital of the world for its relaunch of the North American Poker Tour (NAPT). The series will happen over the course of nine days in the first half of November. It will happen at Resorts World in Las Vegas.

The full schedule has yet to be announced, but there are several events listed on the Hendon Mob so far:

  • 5-6 Nov:  $10K buy-in NLHE Super High Roller
  • 6-11 Nov:  $1,650 buy-in NLHE NAPT Main Event
  • 9-12 Nov:  $550 buy-in NLHE NAPT Cup
  • 10-12 Nov:  $5,300 buy-in NLHE High Roller
  • 11-12 Nov:  $1,100 buy-in NLHE Mystery Bounty

Why Las Vegas?

One might wonder why Las Vegas is the location of the NAPT relaunch, especially when PokerStars does not have an online poker license to operate in Nevada. PokerStars USA only operates in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

First of all, it’s Las Vegas, a place where poker players can feel comfortable in their natural habitat.

Second, the scheduling puts the NAPT in the city that will host the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix November 16-18. It is a highly-anticipated event and a part of the 2023 Formula One World Championship. And it just so happens that PokerStars is a partner of Oracle Red Bull Racing, which will have a car in the race. Those in town for the NAPT, such as PokerStars executives who can afford to watch the very expensive race, can stay for said race.

PokerStars and Oracle Red Bull Racing 2023: Formula 1 in Las Vegas Red Spade Pass

Third, the first iteration of the NAPT hosted a first season, and the second was just getting started when Black Friday put an end to the tour. For both seasons, the year began with the NAPT Main Event in the Bahamas, which also served as the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Main Event. Outside of that, the most well-attended NAPT event in Season 1 was the one in Vegas at the Venetian. The $5K buy-in Main Event at NAPT Venetian had 872 entries for a prize pool that exceeded $4M.

This second iteration of the NAPT will be different than the first, with lower buy-ins across the series, a lower profile in the US market, and new venues. Mohegan Sun in Connecticut no longer hosts poker tournaments, nor does the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles host high-profile events, and the PCA is a different beast. This time, PokerStars will have new casino partners, the first of which is Resorts World in Las Vegas. It will be the casino’s first foray into the world of large live series.

Online Poker Connection

As mentioned, PokerStars doesn’t operate in Nevada, as it is currently only licensed by the state governments of New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. And via the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), New Jersey and Michigan players share the same player pool.

As of yet, there is no widespread list of satellites for NAPT Main Event entries. There is time, though, for that promotion to launch PokerStars wants to do it.

Meanwhile, there are three Red Spade Passes on the table. They will be awarded at random, though, one for a New Jersey player, one for Michigan, and one for a Pennsylvania player. Players need only deposit to their PokerStars account to earn entries:

  • Sign up for a PokerStars account in NJ, PA, or MI. (1 entry)
  • Make an initial deposit into that account. (10 entries)
  • Existing players can deposit at least $10. (1 entry)

This sweepstakes started on August 30 and will run through September 30. Each winner of a Red Spade Pass will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas November 14-19 for the F1 race. Each package is worth $35K.

Picture yourself playing live poker in paradise. Imagine the sun is shining, the drinks are ice cool, and you gaze upon the beach while you’re waiting with your pocket aces for the small blind to go all in. Yes, we’re aware that this sounds like a dream, but with the Carribean Poker Tour to be held on St. Maarten in November, this is soon to be a reality!

Let’s be honest: there really could not be a place better than the island of St. Maarten to host the $75 000 Caribbean Poker Tour (CPT) Main Event. Not only will the players look forward to a tremendous poker tournament, but also a beautiful island which offers a lot of activities outside the casino. ACR have announced that they will be offering up another $60,000 during their Online Super Series XL which runs from September 3rd through October 2nd.

The $50 Million GTD OSS XL is already the biggest series in their history by far and the recently added prizepool, which is a leaderboard competition, will add a whole new level of excitement. Incredibly this year’s series has broken the $50 Million guaranteed milestone.

According to ACR, the best part is that the prizepool will be entirely funded by them and not taken from any player fees.

The Leaderboard Competition will pay out more than $60,000 in cash and poker tournament tickets and all players need to do in order to participate is enter any OSS XL event and they’ll earn points based on their overall finish.

Multiple Buy-In Levels

During the campaign, there will be three separate leaderboards based on High, Medium and Low buy-ins, so players have a great chance to win some cash no matter the size of their bankroll.

The overall winner will also walk away with an additional $15,000 and all of the leaderboard results can be followed in real time on the promotional page.

And, while players are sure to love this Leaderboard Competition, it is simply a forerunner to an even bigger challenge that will be launching next year (2024), details for which will be announced shortly.

What Makes The XL So Humungous?

  • Over $50 Million guaranteed (new record!)
  • Special $60,000 Leaderboard (paid for by America’s Card Room)
  • Buy-ins ranging from 10 cents to $2,650
  • Four Events with at least $2 Million GTD or more
  • Exciting Mystery Bounty tourneys

Partypoker have announced an overhaul of their take on the popular three handed lottery style sit n’ go poker games, Spins, by introducing SPINS Overdrive. The innovative revamp will feature varying blind levels, dynamic starting stacks and a whole new range of payouts.

With SPINS Overdrive, multipliers will now range from 2x to 240,000x the buy-in. Also, the payout structure has been tweaked, and will now offer prizes at lower multipliers.

Essentially, SPINS Overdrive is a three player Jackpot Sit & Go game with thousands of multipliers where the bigger the multiplier that hits means the greater amount of starter chips a player gets, thus the more you could potentially win.

This new and unique format offers up a top prize of 240,000x your buy-in as well as thousands of other potential prizes.

New Look SPINS

On top of the multipliers being pushed all the way up to the max, another great innovation is that the new game will feature brand new animations with a cool, futuristic car that will be speeding towards your next multiplier.

And because chip stacks are now dynamic, if you are playing for a smaller prize, it is more likely to be a quick game, but if you are playing for a bigger prize pool, then partypoker will give you more chips and more time to take down the win.

As with traditional SPINS, every game is still made up of three players with buy-ins ranging from $0.25-$100. However, the critical difference between SPINS Overdrive and the other jackpot style poker games out there is that the prizes are not fixed to just 2x, 3x and so on.

SPINS Overdrive has fewer 2x prizes and the prize pool grows exponentially. The game will start with increments of 0.01x – 2.01x, 2.02x, etc, but the larger the prize pool swells, the bigger those jumps will become.

Rake will also remain the same ranging from 5% at higher stakes to 8% at lower buy-in levels.

This is high octane poker play for every player. So, rack up those short stacks and prepare yourself for quick blinds, as poker’s most popular game has just found itself a whole new gear.
