Jeff Kimber victorious at GUKPT: Walsall

Palace Guards at Buckingham Palace, London

Jeff Kimber came out of nowhere to dominate the final table of the Grosvenor U.K. Poker Tour: Walsall and take down first place.

Before the day started the smart money had to be on Peter Charalambous who had a firm grip on the chip lead with $877,000, whereas Jeff Kimber had a modest $451,000. The situation changed dramatically, however, after some aggressive plays by Kimber in the early going.

In a pivotal hand Nikhil Persaud pushed all-in with A-Q only to have Kimber wake up with A-A. After Persaud's elimination Kimber was in the driver's seat and didn't let up until he had secured victory over Charalambous in heads-up play.

Kimber received £83,910 and a seat in the Champion of Champions for his heroic efforts. Charalambous, meanwhile, had to settle for £48,790.

Kimber is well-known on the English poker circuit: he made a WPT final table in 2006 and won the World Headsup Poker Championship in 2007.

Walsall was a very successful event for the GUKPT; 287 players came out to take part in the poker festivities.

Next up is Leg 3 at the Vic in London. Here's a look at the final-table payouts:

3. Dharminder Buttar £35,160
