Daily 3-Bet: Olympic Akkari, Bulletproof Fan, School Teacher Redux
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a plucky fishing boat that will brave the stormiest seas to bring you the freshest mid-afternoon poker news on the planet.
You can always make suggestions for future 3-Bet pieces in the comment’s section below.
In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at André Akkari getting a huge Olympic honor, Terry Fan getting a poker makeover and the best hits from teacher Lisa Meredith’s surprising WSOP run.
1) André Akkari to Carry Olympic Torch
André Akkari is a cornerstone of Brazilian poker.
The Team PokerStars Pro has been proudly flying the Brazilian flag at the WSOP for nearly a decade and has been an incredible ambassador for the game in his home country.
It’s fitting that Akkari has been chosen to carry the Olympic torch representing mind sports in Rio 2016. No word as to whether he’ll rock his WSOP gold bracelet for the occasion.
The 2016 Summer Olympics start Aug. 5 and there will be at least one more poker player in the thick of it. Iconic footballer and fellow PokerStars pro Neymar is set to captain Brazil’s national team and will be one of three over-agers on the team.
Of course Neymar won a Main Event seat recently so he might be a November Niner by that point too.
Something tells us there’s going to be a few good poker games running in Rio in the Athletes Village.
2) Terry Fan Goes Bulletproof
Remember when online poker players were known for being overweight nerds?
Those days are mostly gone and Taiwan’s Terry Fan is the latest pro to undergo a massive transformation, dropping 25 pounds over the last few years.
Fan was featured in an article on NextShark, which highlights rising entrepreneurs.
Nam and Tom Le took the time to mentor Fan and got him on the Bulletproof diet, which includes coffee mixed with butter and MCT oil.
The makeover apparently did wonders for his poker game as Fan took down a Macau Poker Cup event for $141k in March and cashed in the Millionaire Maker earlier this week.
Fan isn’t the only poker pro who’s a proponent of Bulletproof coffee as former World Champ Martin Jacobson is a huge fan of the beverage.
3) Re-live Lisa Meredith’s Surprise Run in Milly Maker
How great was Kindergarten teacher Lisa Meredith’s third-place finish in the Millionaire Maker for $500,000?
It was easily one of our favorite stories this year and fortunately the WSOP has taken the time to produces a highlight reel of Meredith’s final table appearance for all of the people that missed it.
Hopefully we get a few more of these stories before the 2016 WSOP comes to an end.
