Despite the recent COVID-19 restrictions, the world of live poker is slowly returning to its normal life. As of now, there are numerous competitions in this discipline. More major events are planned for the upcoming year.

Today we will discuss the important poker tournaments that deserve your attention. These events attract poker fans from all over the world. You will have a chance not only to watch the game, but also to test your strength.

Without exaggeration, we can say that the WSOP 2023 is the largest and most famous poker event that will take place in 2023. The event is scheduled for May 30, 2023. As before, the largest poker tournament will be held in Las Vegas. If you do not have the opportunity to attend the event, try your hand at online tournaments

In May, throughout June, and the first half of July, bracelets will be available at the Poker Festival in abundance. If you follow poker games, tournament battles deserve your attention.

The main event of the upcoming tournament will be the Main Event with a $10,000 buy-in. Many consider this direction to be a kind of “World Championship of Poker.” The winner’s name becomes a household name every year; he immediately rises to the status of the official ambassador of the game.

Last year’s Main Event winner was Espen Jorstad representing Unibet. The player managed to win 10 million dollars; he left 8663 other participants far behind.

On July 3, the Big Show will take place as part of the WSOP 2023. Players will have four chances to build a stack to advance to the second day.

The upcoming poker tournament is rich in high-profile events. One of them is Mystery Millions. One of the first events in the series guarantees the winner a massive reward of one million dollars.

What is currently known about the WSOP 2023:

Conclusion

Poker is a game of chance that has fans all over the world. Someone sits down at the table on their own and seeks to beat opponents using their skills, while someone follows the games remotely. These events should grab your attention regardless of which category of poker fans you belong to.

As much as we might strive for perfection, there’s always room for improvement, and the world of real money online poker is no exception. Furthermore, instead of the rather unambitious ‘if it’s not broken don’t fix it’ that many settle for, it’s nice to see popular online poker room GGPoker unveiling a raft of improvements on an already successful tournament set-up.

Anything called Super MILLION$ is sure to attract attention, and these weekly $10,300 buy-in high-roller events obviously garner interest from everyone, from keen recreational players looking for a shot at glory to seasoned veterans and hardened pros. Once again, it’s good to see the likes of GGPoker marrying online tournament poker with live poker (see below).

With so much – literally – at stake, it’s important to make these special tournaments maximally accessible, and GGPoker are doing their utmost in this regard.

GGPoker's superranking leaderboard.

Super MILLION$ SuperRanking Leaderboard

This new feature is an important development, the point being to rank players based on their results (measured in profit/loss) across all online and live Super MILLION$ events. The player who at the end of the year emerges at the top of the Leaderboard will be crowned SuperPro and receive the following:

  • Super Platinum level in GGPoker’s Fish Buffet loyalty program, receiving the equivalent of 100% cashback at GGPoker and in all online and offline Super MILLION$ events.
  • A custom GGPoker player avatar.
  • Further benefits which will be revealed over the course of 2023.

Those players finishing 2nd and 3rd place will receive the same as above minus the avatar. Note that players must play in at least five Super MILLION$ events per calendar year to be eligible for this promotion.

GGPoker teams up with Triton Poker super high rolles series.

Super MILLION$ Live!

GGPoker is teaming up with Triton Poker and other live operators to introduce live Super MILLION$ tournaments to their respective events, the first one taking place during the upcoming Triton Super High Roller Series stop (1-13 March) at the Hoiana Resort & Golf resort in Vietnam.

In the classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory there was the elusive Golden Ticket that everyone was so desperate to get their hands on. But there’s more to life than gorging ourselves on chocolate and being the first to try out-of-this-world confectionary. Yes – let’s step back and put things into perspective here: the golden ticket pales into insignificance when compared with what real money online poker has to offer the world!

With the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship finally upon us, and dreams about to be made in the luxurious surroundings of the inviting Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas, the hottest ticket in town certainly isn’t chocolate-related. Instead, online poker tournament fans looking to win big have been endeavouring over the last months to be the recipient of magical Platinum Passes that will see them whisked off to paradise to live it up and play megabucks poker.

When it came down to literally the very last two to be awarded, it was Pokerstars Poker in the Ears hosts, James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton, who had the honours of presenting the massively sought-after Platinum Passes.

This is what each of the last two lucky players received:

  • $25,000 buy-in to the PSPC
  • Six nights at a 5-star hotel for the winner and a guest
  • $1,900 expenses
  • Airport transfers
  • Platinum Pass Winner experiences during the event
PokerStars Players No Limit Hold'em Championship.

High stakes, high drama

No wonder those in the random draw competition that was to determine who would be selected were on tenterhooks as the popular PokerStars podcast unfolded. Candidates would be selected at random and phoned with a question, and when the first potential winner failed to answer, it was Northern Ireland’s Alex Irwin who was next chosen, and who became the first named winner thanks to his being able to correctly answer his PSPC-related quiz question: How many of the 1,039 players made the money in the first edition of PSPC back in 2019? His correct answer of 181 earned Alex a $25,000 buy-in and expenses paid trip to the Bahamas…

The hosts then moved on to giving away the second and final pass. Disaster struck for the next hopeful, who got the question wrong! Next in line was Asif Warris of the UK, a well-known and popular character in the global poker community who is known as The Poker Tourist – an apt nickname given what was about to happen… Asif was asked for the name of the other Platinum Pass winner that joined Ramon Colillas at the final table at the first PSPC. Asif correctly answered that it was Mark Rivera, and he’ll now be freerolling the $25,000 event.

As last-minute opportunities go, it doesn’t get much better than this…

Let’s go back in time with Kings of Tallinn and find out more about the existence of this eventful series of the Baltics. For years they have shown to be a true competitor for one of Europeans finest live poker series, but how they initially started their great concept? And who were the initiators of all this? Which key personalities helped to get KoT to become the KoT like it is now? We will nosedive into the history together with all our readers.

Once upon a time….. Former Casino Director of Olympic Casino Risto Suurpold and current Tournament Director Teresa Nousiainen were sitting down together and came up with the idea of starting to organize a great tournament for the poker community of the Baltics. They came up with the name Kings of Tallinn and decided from the get-go that this event must be a ‘tribute to all poker players’. It always has been the aorta of the whole week, to have a schedule based on player’s needs and wishes. Based upon their feedback, the event series became to what it currently, and always, stands for. Because of this approach, you can expect every following year, great new stuff added to the schedule.

Happy player at Kings of Tallinn.

What Do We Know About the Most Important Tournament of a Poker Series, Namely the Main Event?

The Main Event of Kings of Tallinn came first to ligt in 2015 and had a very decent player field, topping 140 entries up until the COVID-19 saga, they always managed to attract more players as previous editions. Somewhat, which only can be respected inside out. It has not always had a guaranteed prize pool as they have now, just from 2020 they started with offering a guaranteed prize pool of €500,000. A prize pool which they guaranteed just once, until this year, where they will offer again this extraordinary amount for the Main Event.

Here is a list of all previous Main Event champions:

  • 2015 – 140 entries – Prize Pool €137,200 – Ranno Sootla (Estonia) – €37,330
  • 2016 – 198 entries – Prize Pool €240,100 – Johan Creutz (Sweden) – €52,200
  • 2017 – 247 entries – Prize Pool €234,650 – Matias Knaapinen (Finland) – €45,007
  • 2018 – 268 entries – Prize Pool €254,600 – Juha Helppi (Finland) – €62,000
  • 2019 – 375 entries – Prize Pool €356,250 – Vitalijs Zavorotnijs (Latvia) – €85,300
  • 2020 – 674 entries – Prize Pool €640,300 – Johan Karlsson (Sweden) – €126,900

How to sign up for our Newsletter?

When opening our website frontpage you will see a newsletter banner popping up on the right-hand side of the screen. Simply hit the button and fill in your Name and Email address, with your country of residence added. Make sure to be 18 years or older when signing up.

There’s more to real money online poker than just logging on, heading straight for the tables, sitting out and logging off. Different operators have different ways of doing things, and in terms of bonuses, offers and whatever freebies are on offer, it tends to be the same set-up regardless of whether you favour Sit & Go and online poker tournaments or Texas Hold’em or Omaha cash games.

It’s worth taking time to familiarise ourselves with a poker room’s key features that will be a regular part of our experience when playing there. A good example of this is a key feature of the ever-popular partypoker’s set-up, namely partydollars which, as we’ll see, is a very user-friendly concept.

What Are partydollars?

Also referred to as P$, these represent a special currency that has replaced the old Tournament Dollars (T$) and which affords players a lot more flexibility. Giving out tokens and tickets and so on is a common practice in online poker, but can be confusing, restrictive and consequently even off-putting for players, who might as a result not derive from them their full potential.

For example, in the old days, if you won $100 in Tournament Dollars you’d be able to put the T$ to use only by playing in tournaments. With P$ you enjoy much more choice as to how to spend what you have, as this alternative ‘currency’ is exactly that – now you’d be free to use that P$100 for any game you fancy.  or a session at the cash table. In fact, P$ can be used in any of the following ways:

  • Any online multi-table poker tournament
  • Satellite tournaments
  • Standard cash games
  • Fastforward games
  • Sit & Go games
  • SPINS tournaments

As we can see, partydollars really do give us access to everything partypoker has to offer poker fans! Note that P$ cannot be sold, exchanged for cash or transferred.

partypoker super daily legends.

Tournament Tickets

As well as partydollars, regular players at partypoker will also find themselves acquiring tournament tickets. These serve as vouchers that can be used to enter specific tournaments.

Typically, you might receive tournament tickets via promotions, or win them in a Sit & Go or a tournament. Each ticket has a specified value that can be used as a buy-in for certain tournaments, and is valid for six months. Note that – like P$ – tickets are non-transferrable and cannot be converted to cash.

So, there you go – make sure that you eke out everything you can from your partypoker experience, and put those P$ and tournament tickets to good use!

Unibet not too long ago released a cash game format called “Banzai”, a mode that focused on short-stack cash games which created so much action!

For just a 10 big-blind buy-in, it had played jamming left right, and center, with multi-way all-ins a common happening. It has become a great cash game format for poker players looking for action, fun, and a quick time at the online felt.

With the additional benefits of just 1% rake, it has become so much more popular. Once you shove all in and hear that “Banzai!” sound effect, you are in full swing of the cash game mode.

With stakes available at 5NL, 10NL, and 20NL, it is great for low-stakes recreational players to have a spin and see how far they can run their stack up.

What Is Banzai Flip?

As part of Unibet’s January release, they have brought in the Banzai Flips promotion from Jan 23 – Feb 28, allowing players to battle through 10 villains in an arcade Street Fighter style and get to a grand prize.

You are Jean Claude Van Damme in Bloodsport, only this time instead of a fight to the death you are trying to beat your enemies in fair, randomly-generated poker flips.

As you luckbox your way to the top, you will get in sight of the grand €100 prize! You might be wondering how much it costs to take part in this?

Absolutely nothing! If you sign up to Unibet and log in, you will get credited a free token followed by one free token every week – if you are a real money poker player, you will get up to 9 tokens every day through rakeback.

You have the opportunity through Banzai Flips to load up your token in this poker arcade machine and spin your way to a €100 prize.

Unibet Banzai 2.0.

How to Win at Banzai?

Winning Banzai requires players to be smart with short-stack play – if you specialize in tournament poker, you might find yourself with an edge in this poker cash game format.

To win at Banzai on Unibet poker, follow these simple tips:

  • Be the Aggressor, not the Caller – by pushing fold equity on other people, you give yourself the most chance of winning pots. If someone jams from an early position and you are in the big blind with a marginal hand like QTos, you should think about how your equity is against their overall range, not just that you have a “pretty hand”.
  • Ace From Space – Have an Ace in your hand? Jam it all in and hear “Banzai”! Having almost any Ace in your hand at 10 big blinds gives you the license to put your stack in, as you’ll be scooping up the blinds so often, or even get it in with a good amount of equity.
  • No Gamble No Future – You cannot overfold in Banzai, that would be a critical mistake. Letting people run you over will be an easy exploit for them, sometimes you just have to put it in with AK even though you “always lose with this hand”.

Here’s a nightmare scenario that every poker fan will experience (and not just once) at some point if they play online poker tournaments with even a modicum of regularity: You’ve been bobbing and weaving for hours, managing losses, winning a couple of decent sized pots and accumulating chips nicely as the field gradually thins down and, with only 31 players remaining and 30 prizes up for grabs, you’re sitting pretty comfortably in the top dozen or so. Then you’re dealt a pair of aces, end up all-in against a slightly bigger stack, and suffer a bad beat. To add insult to injury, you finish one place from the money – the dreaded Bubble

While such reverses are part and parcel of the game, and might well be bad luck stories with which you could bore people at the bar, wouldn’t it be good if there was some sort of compensation when this happens? When you play at Juicy Stakes Poker – one of the latest movers and shakers in real money online poker – there’s an ongoing promotion that offers exactly that facility, namely Bubble Protection.

Juicy Stakes Poker Bubble Protection: How It Works

Qualifying tournaments for this promotion will be clearly labelled ‘Bubble Protection Enabled’ in the tournament info window. By registering for an eligible tournament before the scheduled start time you secure bubble protection so that, should you then finish as the bubble, your buy-in and entry will be returned to your account.

Remember to register before the tournament begins! Note that Bubble Protection applies only in tournaments which have at least 25 total entries after late registration has ended. Furthermore, entering during late registration will not qualify for Bubble Protection.

Juicy Stakes Poker. Player watching the board with focus.

With Juicy Stakes Poker adding a range of tournaments to their comprehensive offering of Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash tables and Sit & Go games, the Bubble Protection promo is clearly an important ‘safety net’ option to keep in mind!

Time waits for no man, as the saying goes, and it’s due to this truism of life that we don’t always find ourselves with enough time to spend on those things we enjoy. One such source of entertainment for countless people around the globe is the exciting and rewarding world of real money online poker which, as anyone who plays knows very well, is a great way to have fun and relax.

However, finding time isn’t always easy as life and the commitments that come with it can cramp our style. If this practical predicament resonates with you, then look no further than the player-friendly Americas Cardroom who, with the above in mind, have the useful On Demand Tournaments offering.

It’s easy if you’re into Texas Hold’em or Omaha cash games because you can literally log on and be presented with cash games tables that you can simply join immediately and be dealt in within seconds of sitting down.

For online poker tournament players, on the other hand, it can be quite different. While there’s a whole smorgasbord of tournament types and formats to choose from, different players like different tournaments, and whether or not we are in for a rewarding poker session might depend on twi factors: scheduling, and the duration of a tournament, many of which have large fields and can take hours to complete.

The idea behind On Demand Tournaments at ACR is to do away with committal schedules and instead provide a more flexible set-up.

On Demand Tournaments: How It Works

This special format makes it possible for a tournament to start on demand (hence the name) rather than at a fixed time slot. Here we have a combination of the appeal of multi-table tournaments (and prize pools to match) and the time-oriented convenience of the Sit & Go … And it’s proving to be a successful way to help a lot of players who might otherwise miss out on the tournament experience.

As is the case with a standard Sit & Go, an On Demand Tournament gets underway when the minimum number of required entrants registers. Once the action has started other players are allowed to join the tournament during a specified re-entry period, and as more players join, so the prize pool increases.

Americas Cardroom tournament lobby.

Note that as well as the tournaments themselves, there are also satellites available via which you can qualify for bigger guaranteed events – and remember that this is On Demand poker, so these also can start up as soon as the minimum number of players registers, at any time of the day!

Finally, if you’re looking to expand your stable of go-to online poker rooms, then you’ll find the latest online poker bonuses and offers in our dedicated info section. Have fun, and good luck…

Notwithstanding the ongoing global recovery from the effects of COVID, there’s never been a better time to be a poker fan. Whether your experience is limited to real money online poker or the more traditional Bricks & Mortar variety, opportunities abound.

Online poker, of course, is literally available to players all over the world, and one of the key reasons the game has managed to flourish during the course of the last two decades or so is the effective symbiotic relationship between the two formats.

Moreover, the presence of online poker operators in the Live environment has been even more pronounced in recent years, with PokerStars being particularly busy in this regard.

With the ink re the recent announcement of the upcoming European Poker Tour stop in Paris barely dry, the veteran but admirably forward-thinking PokerStars has more big news on the live poker front. This is in the shape of the return to Rozvadov – located on the German border with the Czech Republic – to kick off the Eureka 2023 series, with the event taking place between 13-20 March.

Running between 16-20 March at Europe’s largest poker room, this tournament will boast a guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000 – well worth throwing your hat into the ring!

As for the next leg itself, like all our tournaments, it’s well worth playing in regardless, as the €150 buy-in features a €5,000 guaranteed prize pool and is a great way to combine poker with time in the sun in a popular and picturesque setting that is the delightful Mediterranean island. Have fun in the sun…

WSOP Circuit Events Calgary, Canada.

Expectations were high for the rerun of the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOP-C) Calgary this year, but even those high expectations turned out low.

After a record Main Event prize pool last January in the inaugural running of WSOP-C Calgary, expectations were high for this year’s rerun. Even those high expectations turned out to be too low however as Deerfoot Inn & Casino has been flooded with players during the first week of the series.

The $1,700 Main Event is still yet to run, with Day 1a kicking off at 11am on Jan 19, but the events so far have blown past even the most optimistic pre-series estimates. When the series came to Calgary for the first time last January, the 4-Flight event shocked organizers when it went above 1,100 entries – this year, it nearly hit that number in the third flight, then blew passed it in the final Day 1.

The huge numbers didn’t stop there either. Every open event so far has exceeded the expected numbers with the first seven events of the 15-event series amassing more than $1.25 million in prizes already.

Huge Interest From the Start

The opening event of the series, the Big 30 Stack drew more than 500 entries, a preview of what was to come. That $400 one-day game ended up with $165,675 in prizes and Joon Park of Surrey BC took down almost $32,000 Cdn for his investment. Local Twitch poker GOAT and Big Brother Canada (BBC) winner Kevin Martin started ring-hunting early, and came within a single spot of winning one in his first event this series, finishing second to Park.

That was just a preview. The second event of the series was the 4-Flight, which is traditionally a big event, but it still blew past the expectations. When the dust settled on the fourth flight, the field was a truly stunning 1,539 for a total prize pool of nearly $600k.

Nicholas Lee.
Nicholas Lee

Local player Nicholas Lee broke through for the first win of his career, and he got a Circuit Ring to go with the win. He pocketed just over $76k for the win in a $400 game that saw seven five-figure payouts.

Two more open events drew big numbers in the early part of the series, with the Mystery bounty getting 544 entries and the PLO Bounty getting 395. Even the Seniors Event drew huge numbers with 384 entries and more than $126k in prizes.

Big Names to Start Second Half

(Pictured from left: Arlie Shaban, Jon Pardy, Kevin Martin, and Adel Elsari).

The second half of the series kicked off with Event #8, the Two-Day $1k event that drew a few more big names. Martin was still hanging around firing whatever events he could find, and a few other BBC alumni joined him for the game. ACR streamer Jon Pardy and PokerStars streamer Arlie Shaban, both also former housemates on the Canadian reality show, came for the event and cashed on Day 2.

Adel Elseri, another former contestant on BBC, joined the three poker streamers for a bit of a reunion. Elseri is a bit less experienced at poker than his BBC buddies, but while they were playing the $1k event he was busy cashing in the smaller Bounty event across the casino. (Pictured from left: Arlie Shaban, Jon Pardy, Kevin Martin, and Adel Elsari)

The big three streamers then jumped into the $1k Turbo on the following day with Martin and Pardy booking cashes. Martin got into the money on just 3 big blinds, then spun that up onto the final two tables.

When the numbers get this big, it draws even bigger names. Martin is a regular around these parts, having grown up a few hours south of Calgary in Lethbridge, so it wasn’t a huge surprise to see him grinding it out for a ring. Pardy and Shaban were obviously here for the poker, but also to catch up with their reality show buddies.

Mike Leah.
Mike Leah

Typically in a series like this, those may well have been the biggest names on the list, but the massive numbers early in the series also piqued the interest of Canada’s 10th highest poker earner, Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah. He came in from Ontario for the $1k Turbo looking for his seventh Circuit ring, and he’ll no doubt figure highly in the upcoming high roller and Main Event.

High Roller and Main Event Still to Come

There is still lots of action upcoming in the WSOP-C Calgary. The $1,700 Main Event kicks off on Jan 19 with the first of three starting flights and there are live Mega Satellites to that event running Jan 19 and 20. Sunday Jan 22 features the $2,200 High Roller that finishes out on Monday and there are side events and satellites filling the rest of the schedule.

The 2022 running of this series ended up with a record prize pool for the Main Event, but this year’s version is already blowing the early numbers from last year out of the water. It remains to be seen how big the Main Event will get, but another record prize pool seems almost certain at this point.

While it’s true that the world of real money online poker is indeed a wide-reaching industry that allows poker fans from around the globe to collectively enjoy this fascinating and rewarding game, the ‘global’ element isn’t always a literal one. Not all players are able to (legally) take advantage of the offerings of online poker operators, so it’s always good to see access to this or that site expand.

The latest example of this means that poker players in the Czech Republic can celebrate, as GGPoker and King’s Slots have announced that, following the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Finance recently issuing a licence, the shiny new GGPoker.cz will soon open to the Czech market!

GGPoker has certainly made a name for itself as a leading and popular online poker provider in recent years, not least as a champion for recreational players who, importantly, are what keeps the industry ticking along nicely.

Would-be kings and queens of the virtual felt in the Czech Republic will now be able to enjoy the delights of Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash tables, Sit & Go games and online poker tournaments around the clock.

GGPoker broken pot filled with cash.

Marco Trucco, Head of Europe for GGPoker, had this to say about the poker world’s latest partnership: “I’m delighted to work with King’s slots s.r.o. to extend GGPoker access to Czech players. We will have a lot to offer the market in 2023 and beyond, including WSOP satellites, massive tournaments, the most exciting cash games, exclusive promotions and more!”

The feeling is mutual, as evidenced by Leon Tsoukernik, majority shareholder of King’s Entertainment group: “We are excited for this announcement and the continued development of our partnership with GGPoker globally. As the leading casino and poker venue in Europe, home of WSOPE, it was only natural for both our companies to come together to introduce GGPoker to our local audience in Czech Republic.”

GGPoker is, of course, a well-known name amongst online poker players. If Kings seems familiar, that’s due to being a key player in the Bricks & Mortar poker world. King´s slots s.r.o. is a subsidiary of VESTAR GROUP which, through King´s Entertainment a.s., operates three casinos in the Czech Republic: King’s Casino Rozvadov, the newly expanded Admiral Casino in Rozvadov and King’s Casino at the Hilton Hotel in Prague. Not surprisingly, then, this will prove a welcome match-up among players.

Poker has so much going for it (fortunately). It takes barely any time to learn the rules, doesn’t in any way require loads of money to play yet offers many opportunities to win life-changing sums and, thanks to the internet and the ever-evolving wonders of technology, can be played by would-be poker geniuses around the globe from the comfort of their sofa or, of course, just about anywhere.

Those just getting to grips with real money online poker might initially feel a little overwhelmed at the sheer scale of the poker menu in front of them, but it doesn’t take long at all to familiarise ourselves with the set-up and how to go about enjoying an optimal online poker experience.

An everyday part of the game that anyone who has even modest ambitions about achieving success in online poker tournaments will come across is so-called Flight tournaments, and here we’ll have a brief look at the mechanics using the popular WPT Global’s set-up.

Flight Tournaments: How It Works

As well as standard, one-off tournaments that have, say, 100 players and take a few hours to complete, there are also bigger events that require more time and might therefore be split up into numerous initial phases, with play ending when the field has been cut down to a certain percentage of players, or after a specified duration or pre-determined number of levels have been played out, and then those who have survived all go through to the next (single-section) phase.

So, WPT Global, for instance, has ‘big’ (and big money!) tournaments with Flights in the form of several Day 1 sections that serve as qualifying rounds which filter and subsequently funnel through ‘survivors’ into an effectively condensed Day 2 or, commonly, Final Day, and this will ultimately be played to a finish.

What tends to happen is that once a Flight has a specific percentage of players remaining (typically 10%-20%), it automatically stops, and that top X% from each Flight will qualify for the second phase or final day.

Note that players usually take with them however many chips they have at the end of the Flight to the next stage of the event, so it’s normal to see a wide range of stack sizes starting Day 2, for example, as some might have amassed enormous stacks in the Flight while others scraped through with short stacks.

As for prizes, there might be a portion of the overall prize pool set aside to be paid out at the end of a Flight, but it’s often the case that no prizes are awarded as the aim of this set-up is to narrow down the field in order to make Day 2 more manageable from a time perspective.

WPT Global online poker table.

Flight tournaments, then, are a means to qualify for the final phase of an event. To make tournaments maximally accessible, WPT Global will host numerous Flights, and it’s possible to enter more than one for the same event in order to keep plugging away until a place in Day 2 has been achieved. It’s even possible to qualify more than once, in which case your biggest stack is taken to the next stage (and any other chip stacks are removed from play).

And there you have it! If you’re going for glory in big events, you’ll often have to battle your way through Flight tournaments to get your chance at the business end of proceedings. Have fun at the tables, and good luck.

A classic advertising campaign in the UK revolved around there being ‘more reasons’ to shop at a certain supermarket, and it proved so successful that people still associate that particular business with those very words decades later.

When it comes to the world of real money online poker which, year after year, continues to thrive, poker fans are very fortunate to be able to pick and choose, and the providers themselves – including the established big hitters – must strive to stay in the game.

Given that the scale and depth of what this or that online poker room offers can differ considerably, the ‘more reasons’ claim is a fitting and justified one for some online poker rooms more than others. Even someone new to poker probably wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there are indeed many reasons to play at partypoker where, whatever you’re looking for, they have it.

In fact – regardless of whether it’s Texas Hold’em games or the thrills of Pot Limit Omaha that float your poker boat, or you have a liking for Sit & Go or large field online poker tournaments – at partypoker you’re spoilt for choice. It’s also as bankroll-friendly as they come.

Here are a couple of random but well worthy reasons to join the partypoker family…

Daily Party Gifts

Everybody likes free stuff, and when partypoker is your go-to place for fun at the tables, a nice touch is that every day when you log in you could win one of the following freebies via the ongoing Daily Party Gift promo:

This brings us on to partypoker’s trademark SPINS games…

partypoker SPINS.

Action-packed SPINS games are three-handed Sit & Go tournaments with a difference, the twist feature being that, rather than paying out set prizes every time, there’s a random prize multiplier that determines what multiple of the buy-in will be won – this could be anything between 2 and 240,000 times the buy-in! Incredibly, you could spin (see what they did there?) a $5 buy-in into a $1,000,000 win, and the whole life-changing experience is a matter of minutes.

If that doesn’t whet your appetite and get you itching for the virtual felt, nothing will…

The alleged cheater Mike Postle faced an unceremonious exit from a $500,000 GTD poker tournament at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi last night.

With a known history in the Mississippi poker scene, Mike Postle has been found to have made a deep run in the Million Dollar Heater poker series, which had a Main Event with a buy-in of $1,200.

Using his first and middle name to register, Mike Postle wore glasses and covered his face with a hood and face mask to conceal his identity, but poker players in the field would not be fooled by his disguise for too long.

Attention was placed on ‘Mike Lawrence’ or Mike Postle, especially as he made the final ten players from 1,074 runners in the tournament. Poker players in the room still remembered the allegations against Postle, where he was thought to have used a phone with direct access to hole cards in real-time on the Stones Gambling Hall live stream.

The Million Dollar Heater at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.

After an ensuing legal battle against poker players from Stones, he avoided any charges due to the poor laws in place in California against poker cheating. Despite being hidden from the poker world since 2019, his sighting at this tournament in Mississippi has caused quite a stir in the poker community.

Before the Stones cheating scandal, Postle had cashed for $571,215 in live poker tournaments with his last one coming just before the Stones investigations began in late 2019 by Joey Ingram.

Postle’s deep run in the tournament would eventually see him not get his hands on the $200k top prize, as he would get slow-rolled in brutal fashion.

Found on a video on the GulfCoastPoker Facebook Page, Postle would battle against Brock Gary with seven left on the final table:

With the action going straight to a flop of 6s4h5c and Postle all in for his remaining chips, Gary sat in the tank covering Postle and seemingly in the blender.

After letting out a big sigh, Gary called and flipped over 6c6h for the top set, a delightful slow-roll for those who believe that Postle cheated at Stones, whilst Postle rolled over TsTh for an overpair.

A safe run out of 2d on the turn and Qs on the river made sure the alleged poker cheater was sent on his way, taking his lifetime tournament cashes to over $600k instead of closer to $800k which is what he would have got had he won the tournament.

Postle was heckled by spectators on his way out, as he was denied the ultimate poker villain story from winning the Million Dollar Heater Main Event.

Brock Gary would eventually chop with Kooroush Gahedi and Jeremy Eyer for $144,380 each, with Gahedi taking the title.

Postle’s cheating scandal would encapsulate a run of cheating since 2019, whether it is Ali imsimrovic and his dream machine allegations, which would have him banned by GGPoker and PokerStars Live, or Bryn Kenney’s stable full of frog poison shamans and ghosting.

In most recent times, we saw the allegations from well-known high-stakes cash pro Garrett Adelstein against Robbi Jade Lew, which would be found moot after an external investigation by Hustler Casino.

Paris is such a fantastic city that it’s tempting to use these pages just to recommend people visit purely for the sake of visiting, as in nothing to do with poker. As it is, despite the fact that we’re informing our PokerListings community about what will be an action-packed stop of the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) in the French capital, it’s almost like the poker itself will be a distraction…

Of course, it’s absolutely possible to enjoy the wonders of the so-called City of Light as well as make the most of big money opportunities. Even if your poker horizons thus far have revolved around playing in online poker tournaments and never setting foot in a Bricks & Mortar poker room, there’s every reason to set your sights on taking part in such a prestigious poker extravaganza. Thanks to the player-friendly way in which PokerStars marries real money online poker with the live version, you can do just that.

The festival itself will take place between 16-26 February in the luxurious surroundings of the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile and, not surprisingly, you can expect a feast of poker that features a range of formats and tournament types. Here are a few highlights:

  • €50,000 buy-in EPT Super High Roller (19-21 February)
  • €5,300 buy-in EPT Main Event (20-26 February)
  • €3000 buy-in EPT Mystery Bounty (22-24 February)
  • €10,300 buy-in EPT High Roller (24-26 February)
PokerStars chip stack.

Of course, not all the buy-ins will be so big, but it’s anyway important to remember that, with the comprehensive satellite set-up at PokerStars, it will be possible for poker fans to qualify for events regardless of the size of their bankroll. And whether you win your way to the EPT Paris or decide to just turn up, expect to see some enormous prize pools. Let’s take the Main Event of the EPT stop in Prague, which finished in December, as an example. A field that had 1,267 entries battled away for €6,144,950 in prize money, with Jordan Saccucci of Toronto emerging the eventual winner to take home a tidy €913,250!

Will you win big in Paris…?

Poker and sport have always been a perfect match. Go to a casino or poker room and you’ll typically find sport being shown on numerous screens so that everyone at the tables can watch the action as they play. Meanwhile, watching sport is a popular ‘distraction’ for fans of real money online poker – let’s face it: we might be advised to fully focus on poker but, if we’re being honest, the vast majority of players are recreational, with the ideal session often being a combination of poker and sport.

Online poker providers are, of course, well aware of this truism, and it’s normal these days to see promotions linked to major sporting events. Juicy Stakes Poker is tapping into the popularity of American Football with their latest promotion, which revolves around the upcoming Super Bowl LVII which, every year, is watched by a massive global audience. In typical American style, the event is much more than sport, with the half-time entertainment and even the adverts being big news.

The 2023 edition of the Super Bowl takes place on 12 February and to celebrate, Juicy Stakes will be hosting a party of their own in the shape of the aptly titled Super Bowl Frenzy.

First up on 12 February (14:15 Eastern/19:15 GMT) at Juicy Stakes is the $115+$10 buy-in, $15,000 GTD Sunday Super-Myriad Superstack Special. Then (18:00 Eastern) comes the $50+$5 buy-in, $5,000 GTD Super Bowl Party.

You can use a standard Myriad ticket to enter the Super-Myriad, and there will also be daily freerolls and Stepladder Sit & Go satellites available, so it’s possible to get into these Super Bowl Frenzy tournaments at bargain prices.

With real money online poker nowadays giving players so much choice as to where they spend their time, poker operators need to come up with all sorts of incentives to both entice and ultimately retain customers. A key way to achieve this is to come up with different ways to award players just for having fun at the tables and, with this in mind, the popular Americas Cardroom has its Elite Benefits Program.

With a new year just beginning, this is a good time to delve in to the mechanics of the set-up and see how players can progress as the year unfolds.

Just by experiencing the thrills and spills of, for example, Texas Hold’em or Omaha cash games, you rack up Rank Points and progress up the ranks. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect when starting out as Lieutenant:

Despite being a relatively new kid on the block compared with the ‘veteran’ online poker rooms that have been around for a couple of decades, it’s very noticeable how the innovative, forward-thinking GGPoker has contributed to the real money online poker environment considerably in recent years.

While GGPoker has made sure to offer all poker fans a comprehensive and varied offering that includes Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, Sit & Go and other formats and variants, it’s fair to say that their online poker tournament menu has proved an enormous success in such a short time.

The latest attraction is the mini MILLION$ tournament series, and the first thing to note is that the ‘mini’ refers to the level of buy-ins only, as the guaranteed prize pools are impressive indeed! This is typical of the everyman approach that has seen GGPoker so successfully establish itself as a player favourite.

Running from 15 January to 6 February, the series features a massive  $10,000,000 in guaranteed prizes – note that this is twice the overall guarantee that was seen in last October’s first mini MILLION$…

Back to the truly mini buy-ins for the series, not only do these start at a teeny weeny $1 but, importantly, $25 is the highest buy-in throughout the packed schedule!

GGPoker Mystery Bounty Main Event.

The headline event is the Mystery Bounty MILLION$ – remarkably, despite the buy-in being only $10.50 you’ll be battling away for your share of the $1,000,000 GTD prize pool. And there’s a $50K Top Bounty up for grabs! Stage 1 gets underway on 27 January.

GGPoker Mini Global Millions.

A great series opener is the $5 buy-in mini Global MILLION$ (Day 1s from 15 January), which boasts a tasty $300,000 GTD prize pool for the modest initial outlay.

Other series highlights worth noting are:

  • $15 buy-in Sunday Hundred Grand (15, 22 & 29 January, and 5 February 5)
  • $5.40 buy-in, $150,000 GTD mini Omaholic Bounty MILLION$ (Stage 1s from 15 January)
  • $25 buy-in, $100,000 GTD GGMasters Sunday Bounty Special Edition (15, 22 & 29 January, and 5 February)

Sarne Lightman, Managing Director of GGPoker, had this to say about this fantastic series: “It might have ‘mini’ in the title, but this series boasts over $10,000,000 in prizes – fully double the amount guaranteed the first time around. No matter the size of your bankroll, there’ll be massive tournaments with some really juicy prizes waiting for you!”
