The Beatles, Albert Einstein, New Year’s Eve, Hamburgers, the World Cup Final… all fixtures, people and things that are globally recognised. As far as poker is concerned, we have the Irish Open! Quite simply, it’s one of those traditional special events that we might all wish to add to our poker bucket list.
The next edition of this fantastic festival will be hosted by the Royal Dublin Society, 3-10 April, and feature a €1,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event. Fortunately, thanks to the wonderful world of real money online poker – which, increasingly, manages to provide players with so many opportunities to expand their horizons – it’s possible to win your way to this fantastic festival and battle it out for life-changing sums in the Irish capital in April.
There’s no time like the present, as they say, so dive in and start your quest to Dublin. Any online poker tournament fan, from beginner to seasoned veteran, has a chance of getting their hands on a Main Event ticket at bargain basement prices…
Not surprisingly, given the history, status, presence and associations with major poker events, PokerStars is an official sponsor of the Irish Open and, as such, is hosting a range of qualifiers that features a mix of packages and seats being awarded in the run-up to Dublin. In fact, an impressive total of 23 will be won every week!

Monday €1150 Seat – 5 GTD
Wednesday €1150 Seat & €350 expenses – 5 GTD
Friday €1150 Seat – 5 GTD
Note that all tournaments start at 7pm and have a €109 buy-in, with re-entries. As usual nowadays, PokerStars are making sure that everyone gets a chance at glory, so to this end there are Feeder satellites running every day with entries starting as low as €1.10!
Meanwhile, Paddy Power is also an official sponsor, and you can take advantage of their numerous satellite options, too:

One of the articles in the excellent Strategy section at Juicy Stakes Poker is about what to look out for when checking out online poker rooms. Impressively, despite being a relative newcomer in the ever-competitive world of real money online poker (which, it has to be said, takes no prisoners), this forward-thinking operator certainly does tick plenty of proverbial boxes.
It’s not just that the usual staple of Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, Sit & Go games and an expanding roster of bankroll-friendly tournaments is being offered, rather that the whole package continues to grow. It’s no surprise, given this ambition and the constant endeavours by those in charge to not rest on their laurels, that Juicy Stakes Poker is enjoying momentum and, with it, is able to celebrate partnerships with leading poker brands.
Fans of online poker tournaments will be interested to learn of a worthy addition to Juicy Stake’s schedule in the form of the Sunday Myriad which – as seems to be the ethos here – is aimed at marrying entertainment with a nice $10,000 in guaranteed prize money.
The Deepstack tournament has a fitting structure: 10,000 starting chips, 12-minute blind levels and late registration that remains open for the first three hours of play.
Meanwhile, if Bounty tournaments are your thing (and, let’s face it, this format tends to be everyone’s thing…), then Juicy Stake certainly delivers on this front, with the $115 buy-in being split as follows: $65 is added to the prize pool, and $50 to the Bounty pool, which is then split 50/50 so that $25 is paid for eliminating an opponent.
Then comes the Big Bounty … Here, $40 of the buy-in goes to the overall prize pool, with a whopping $75 being paid out for every player you send to the virtual rail!
And don’t forget that there are plenty of great value Satellites available that run several times every day so that the Sunday Myriad tournaments are accessible to all players, regardless of the size of their bankroll. Check out the Poker Lobby for more information.
The Sunday Myriad: Tournament Details
Sundays – Starting Time: 2:15pm EST
Buy-in: $115+$10
Format: No Limit Texas Hold’em; re-entry
The Sunday Myriad is certainly a juicy prospect (see what we did there?). To add Juicy Stakes Poker to your stable of online poker rooms – and to check out more of the latest online poker bonuses and offers – simply visit our special info section.
If you think that poker is a bunch of men in smoke-filled casino rooms or illegal games in backstreet basements where the only women to be found are serving drinks, then what cave have you been living in? Fortunately, the poker world has come so far over the years that, not only is the reality so far removed from such an outdated image, but both real money online poker and the live version increasingly represent an environment about which other sports and games would be proud.
This is also reflected in the choices online poker operators make in terms of the ambassadors who represent them, and, in turn, what impact on poker and the collective image it portrays these people have. We can take PokerStars as a perfect example of the face of modern poker in this respect, the latest two ambassadorial recruits being a poker pro from Brazil who is also a very popular streamer, and a Spanish poker pro and coach.
Lali Tournier
First up is Brazil’s Lali Tournier, whose poker skills at the tables have helped her build an appreciative following for her popular stream, not to mention the additional attention she receives as a member of top Brazilian eSports organisation Furia, which is sponsored by PokerStars.
A two-time World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) winner, Tournier’s success has by no means been limited to online poker tournaments – a number of live major tournament cashes under her belt testify that this latest addition to the PokerStars stable is a force to be reckoned with.
This is what she had to say about joining the PokerStars team: “Thirteen years ago I started playing $0.25 Sit & Go’s on PokerStars, and I remember looking at the Team Pro page and would imagine my picture there. It was a very distant dream. But now, my dream has come true, and it is even better than I could wish for -being a Team Pro, joining my husband Rafa and one of my best friends, Akkari. Thanks, PokerStars! I am really happy to be part of the best poker platform.”
Irene “Frogy” Albarrán
Professional poker player and coach Irene ‘Frogy’ Albarrán, who hails from Spain, is also a Twitch streamer. Having already proved a success as part of the PokerStars commentary team in Spain, and jumping straight into ambassadorial duties commentating the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) and PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) events for the Spanish PokerStars community, it’s clear that poker fans have a lot to look forward to.
And Irene’s reaction to her new role: “I have fulfilled one of my dreams; to be the voice of such a big poker community, alongside a great team who also feel like family, representing PokerStars. I feel very excited about everything that is to come. There are going to be many beautiful moments and being able to share these times with the community as well as the team is something that excites me a lot. The best is yet to come!”
Meanwhile, PokerStars is known as the big daddy of online poker rooms for a reason, with a comprehensive, varied and packed-to-the-brim poker offering that features Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, Sit & Go games and a massively popular tournament schedule that pays out nosebleed sums week after week.

As the GGPoker Overlay Edition rolls around for the second edition, we are happy to announce that we are helping PokerListings readers get involved in what will be the best-value tournament in online poker this year by far!
PokerListings Giving Away $10K in Tournament Seats

Note – this promotion is only available for new accounts.
If lucky, sit back and wait for your ticket to the $10M GTD GGMasters Overlay Edition valued at $150.
T&C’s
Only for new accounts.
The promotion might not be eligible in your location.
The raffle is done by at the latest February 18th, check your e-mail to see if you won.
By participating you´re accepting that we might contact you and offer similar promotions.
Doubling From Last Year’s $5M GTD Overlay Edition
Last year’s GGMasters Overlay Edition set a target of $5 million in guaranteed prize money, needing 36,231 players to enter to hit that target. Now, they will need 72,462 entries to hit the guarantee, making it one of the biggest online poker tournaments ever.
Last year, they came close but ultimately left an overlay for poker players to feast on. The final figures showed 33,133 leaving just under $500K in overlay money.
GGPoker will be running round-the-clock satellites, which can be as low as $2.22, and gives every poker player a chance to spin small dollars into a vast seat. We will all be sitting with baited breath to see if Daniel Negreanu runs back his bet from last year and will shave his hair off if GGPoker manages to hit the guarantee.
The 2023 GGMasters Overlay $10M GTD Edition
This year, the Overlay Edition will run from February 19 and have eight days of Day 1 Flights, allowing poker players to fire bullets and run up a stack for the penultimate Day 2 on February 27.
With the PokerListings raffle giveaway, you could find yourself sitting down in one of these Day 1s and battling with the field to get through to Day 2 and give yourself every chance of getting into the money.
How the 2022 GGMasters Overlay Champion “Sr_Duck” Won $343,564
Day 2 saw only 7,097 entries last from the field of 33,133, with many notable names making the final 4,800 and locking up a min-cash.
After GGPoker streamer Kevin Martin essentially bubbled in 4,829th, the players entered the money and locked up a min-cash of $304. Well-known crushers like Niklas “Lena900” Astedt and Johan “YoHViral” Guilbert entered the money, with the latter busting in 206th for a $2,746 payday.
The final table saw known poker players Wellington “ZaaKiiu” Oliveria, and Niv “Malach” Malach partake, but ultimately they would bust in 7th and 5th, respectively, for $61,096 and $108,645. The ultimate winner, “Sr_Duck” would scoop $343,564, a 2,290% return on his initial investment!
We often hear in online poker of big money tournaments and series, but such fixtures are perhaps better measured in terms of how many players have been considered and catered for when deciding on tournament types, buy-ins and, of course, prize pools.
Not only should online poker tournaments be accessible to all, but it would be unfair to the industry engine that consists of low stakes recreational players to limit them to an offering that might have modest buy-ins but also offers modest prizes.
Fortunately for (all types of) poker players, Americas Cardroom has announced the latest incarnation of their always impressive Online Super Series which, once again, will feature a something-for-everyone selection of tournaments in a packed schedule that will keep you entertained from 6-28 February.
We should note that it will also feature a whopping $25,000,000 in guaranteed prize money! Meanwhile, as referenced above, it’s the structure of the schedule that deserves a special mention, as not only are there three buy-in tiers that are Small, Medium and Large, but this latest edition of ACR’s flagship series will see more micro-stakes events than any previous OSS!
But while buy-ins start as low as $3.30, it’s interesting to see that they go up to $2,650, too. And whatever the size of your bankroll, a comprehensive qualifying set-up means being able to take part in any event at bargain basement prices. By any event, this means, for example, three $1 Million GTD tournaments and one with $2 Million GTD (multi-flight), so there’s plenty of life-changing cash to be won. Fancy a change to the usual No limit Texas Hold’em formats? There are numerous game types included in the schedule, including the four hole card Omaha variety, for instance.
Here are some major events to look out for:
$630 buy-in, $750,000 GTD: 12 February
$630 buy-in, $1 Million GTD: Day 1’s 18/19, Day 2 on 20 February
$2,650 buy-in, $1 Million GTD: Day 1’s on 23/26 February, Day 2 on 27 February
Multiflight Events
$630 buy-in, $2 Million GTD: Day 1 Flights from 6-27 February, Day 2 on 27 February
$215 buy-in, $1 Million GTD: Day 1 Flights from 6-27 February, Day 2 on 27 February
$22 buy-in, $150,000 GTD: Day 1 Flights from 6-26 February, Day 2 on 26 February
Good luck at the tables, and have fun!
‘The only party with guaranteed action’ is how the clever marketeers at partypoker describe their shiny new weekly fixture that goes by the name of … Sunday Party. This $109 buy-in Progressive Knockout (PKO) event with a tasty $150,000 guaranteed prize pool is sure to generate a lot of interest, as the combined prospect of a big prize fund and potentially hefty bounty rewards is too good to miss. This is what Sundays are all about in the world of real money online poker for any self-respecting online poker tournament player with even a modicum of ambition.
As for the details, the Sunday Party kicks off at 19:00 (GMT), and there’s no shortage of ways to qualify for (literally) pennies, thanks to an amazing satellite set-up. In fact, pennies is no exaggeration, as the quest for a $109 ticket starts at $0.01 for those who like a challenge. Regardless, whether you’re happy to jump right in for the full buy-in when the start time comes around, or you prefer to take advantage of the numerous qualifying routes, this new event is one for the diary.
And that’s not all of the new Sunday fun…
There’s more to Sundays than lazing around in the afternoon recovering from a massive lunch, waiting for a new working week to come around. Luckily enough, at partypoker they’re well aware of this, so instead of resting on their laurels with just the one new tournament, they’re introducing another in the Sunday Carnival which, not surprisingly, is also aimed at jazzing up the weekend. This time it’s a $22 buy-in and a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool to battle away for against your fellow poker fans.
The first cards for this latest Sunday special will be dealt on the stroke of 19:00 (GMT) and, as with the Sunday Party, it’s possible to win your way to a seat with the satellite route starting at $0.01 …
So, in the everyman approach typified by partypoker, here are two exciting new Sunday tournaments into which to stick your poker teeth, and which offer bumper prize pools and options for all bankrolls.
Meanwhile, those of you looking to expand your horizons will find the latest online poker bonuses and offers via our constantly updated info section. Good luck at the tables, and have fun.
It’s our pleasure at Pokerlistings to bring you the results of the latest instalment of our PokerListings Ranking Series. Given that we’re devoted to helping those in our global community navigate the world of real money online poker as well as offering up the latest news and developments about the game from around the world, it’s great to be able to report on one of our own events!
Our special series, hosted in the fantastic surroundings of the Portomaso Casino in Malta, consists of monthly tournaments that continue until April 2023 and which, collectively, make up a ranking series that offers additional incentive to get involved and put in a strong overall performance.
The proverbial carrot being dangled comes – in addition to the thousands up for grabs in prize money each month – in the form of a €550 ticket to the Main Event and a €250 Side Event ticket for The Festival Series at the same venue in May. These will be awarded to the eventual Rankings winner and runner-up. Note that to be eligible for these exclusive prizes players have to take part in at least two Pokerlistings Ranking Series events. If you’re an online poker tournament fan yet to dip your toe into live poker, then these tournaments are a perfect start.
As for the latest edition of the series, it proved to be another success! Perhaps this isn’t surprising, given the prospect of poker by the sea on this popular Mediterranean island combined with a guaranteed prize pool of €5,000 every month. In fact, thanks to a bumper field that saw a total of 94 entries, the total prize pool reached just short of €12,000…

As a former pro chess player, your writer is well acquainted with the so-called ELO system that for decades has been used as a measuring stick (most notably by FIDE, the World Chess Federation) with which to rank chess players. Wearing both chess and poker pro hats, I see countless elements that the two fascinating games have in common, so it’s interesting to see that GGPoker have come up with a related feature in the shape of their Spin & Gold ELO ranking system.
The aim is to create a way of ranking players that is based purely on their skill and win-rate, as opposed to the size of someone’s bankroll or access to funds.
First…
What Are Spin & Gold Games?
GGPoker’s Spin & Gold takes the Sit & Go format and turns it on its head. Instead of the usual set prizes, here they are determined at random once all players have registered – in fact, you could win up to 100,000 times your buy-in! That’s a potential $1,000,000 up for grabs for a mere $10 outlay, for example. Buy-ins range from $0.25 to $200, so it couldn’t be more bankroll-friendly. Meanwhile, you can play 6-Max for twice the prize, as high as $2,000,000!
Spin & Gold ELO Ranking System: How It Works
Anyone familiar with online poker – and, frankly, anyone just familiar with poker – appreciates that it is a skill game. It would be useful, then, if we could measure our own ability and thus be in a better place to work on and subsequently improve our game. And this is what GGPoker’s Spin & Gold ELO ranking system is all about.
The facility to make assessments and comparisons based on skill is certainly an interesting one. It’s easy to fall into the habit of seeing those with the bigger bankrolls as the better players, but in many ways this is a misconception. The Spin & Go ELO Ranking system is wholly founded on results, so the more top finishes a player achieves, the higher the rating, while poor results will lead to the rating going down, and so on.
Reaching the Next Tier Level
As can be seen from the above graphic, there are seven ELO rating tiers, and each time a player progresses in their personal quest they will see their rating increase appear on the post-game screen. Gain rating points, and rise through the tiers accordingly, culminating in the Top 100 ranked players.
Logically, competing against higher rated opponents affords players more sizeable potential gains and lower losses, and facing lower rated opponents results in smaller gains and larger losses.
Note that – with the exception of the Grand Master rank (which applies to the top 100 players) – it’s not possible to have a tier level downgraded even if dropping below the actual tier rating level.
Find the ELO Menu tab on the left-hand side of the Spin & Gold screen, while rating (updated daily at Midnight UTC) and tier ranking can be checked at the top of the ELO Rating page, where other statistics are also available.
So… test your poker skills, rise up the ranks and see your game – particularly regarding Sit & Go and online poker tournaments – improve. Have fun, and good luck at the tables.
888poker is in a celebratory mood after hitting the 100k milestone for their YouTube channel and is now giving back to the poker community with free value.
After putting in considerable effort to make more entertaining content across the board, 888poker is now seeing the fruits of its labor.
In the past year, they have brought on board names like Jack Mate, who has helped expand 888poker’s core audience beyond the felt. They also added poker pro Ian Simpson who has built up a widespread reputation amongst the UK poker community with his content and poker focus.
After hitting a key target in the YouTube space, 888poker has decided to reward poker fans through a $5,000 freeroll giving infinite EV for poker players on 888.
How Do I Play in the 888poker Freeroll?
To partake in the freeroll, all you need to do is be subscribed to the 888poker YouTube channel and stay tuned in for the video when they give away the password to the freeroll – a handy tip would be to turn notifications on, so you can know when the password has been released.
The title for the freeroll is ‘YouTube 100K Subscribers Celebration Freeroll,’ and it will take place on Saturday, February 4, at 20:30 GMT.
How to Win An Online Poker Freeroll
Once you have subscribed to the 888poker YouTube channel and got the password for the $5,000 freeroll, you should begin getting ready to claim your lion’s share of the prizepool.
Here are some strategy tips on how to take down the 888poker freeroll:
Play it Tight
Early on, you might see lots of multiway and all-in action despite the deep blinds; this isn’t a reason for you to get involved, however. These are usually the moves done by inexperienced and lousy poker players – so beware for lots of non-standard poker actions early on in the freeroll.
Push The Pedal on The Bubble
Once the wild play from the early stages dies down, you will see more “normal” poker tournament play. If you can generate a decent stack before the bubble bursts, you put yourself in a great spot to grind up some more chips. Put the pressure on the shorter stacks you cover and make them fearful ahead of the money. No one wants to bubble, even if it is a freeroll.
Get Max Value
You should only play one strategy to get the maximum possible when you have top pairs with decent kickers and above. This will mean you will have to overbet, bet pot, and do some more significant raises than you would prefer – but the more inexperienced players will happily pay you off with their draws or weaker holdings.
Spot The Sit-Outs
If you see people sitting out, you should make a big mental note that it changes the dynamic of how you should play. Whether it is having you open wider from the UTG or flatting in later positions, you should be ready to take advantage of short-handed pots where there is dead money available.
It never hurts to plan ahead – in life as well as poker (and some would say poker is life…). Any remotely experienced fan of real money online poker is happily aware of being spoilt for choice. Finding online poker tournaments is never a problem per se, but some are bigger and better than others, and it’s worth making sure we don’t miss them. Furthermore, the more time we have in advance, the more chances we have to qualify at bargain prices for the higher buy-in events.
With this in mind, make a note in your diaries for a milestone, namely the PokerStarsSunday Million Anniversary tournament, held on 26 March to celebrate the 17th anniversary of this iconic fixture that over the years has paid out millions in prize money and changed the lives of countless players.
This particular tournament will be no exception, with a nosebleed $7.5 Million Guaranteed prize pool! And whoever emerges at the top of the pile after the dust has settled will walk away with a cool $1 Million first prize to accompany the accolade of being the PokerStars Sunday Million Anniversary champion. Battling your way through to the business end of the tournament is also going to lead to mouth-watering cashes, of course…
These numbers – which are not untypical of the prize pools being fought for at PokerStars every Sunday – are big enough to whet the appetite of any poker fan, from recreational players to battle-hardened grinders, and there are numerous ways to find yourself sitting down on 26 March ready for action. While you can simply buy in directly for $215, there’s no shortage of bankroll-friendly qualifiers being held in the run-up to the big event, including Freerolls, Spin & Go options and extra value added via satellites.
This year’s winner will be following in the footsteps of Blackbeaty of Germany, who took down top honours and $931,885 in last year’s anniversary edition after making a deal with runner up “JanRas1983” of Denmark. Be there, or be square…
If you’ve not yet joined PokerStars and want to try out Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, Sit & Go games and everything else on the poker menu, check them out alongside more of the latest online poker bonuses and offers at our dedicated info page.

How does a spot of big money poker at a prestigious, global event in the sunny Caribbean sound? And what if this happened to be the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) in the tropical paradise of Sint Maarten? Recreational poker fans whose experience thus far has been limited to low stakes online poker tournaments might think such a prospect isn’t for them, but that would be to not appreciate the everyman (and woman!) ethos that runs through real money online poker these days.
It’s interesting – and well worth noting – that, when it comes to qualifying online for live megabucks poker tournaments, we have more choice than we might imagine. We could be forgiven, for example, for thinking that because Juicy Stakes Poker is a relative newcomer on the poker scene it’ll be a while before playing there is a good way to get our hands on seats and packages for the likes of the WSOPC. But we would be quite wrong! In fact, this up-and-coming poker operator has a great deal to offer. As well as the usual fare of Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, Sit & Go tournaments and other poker delights, you’ll find that Juicy Stakes Poker is also a bankroll-friendly gateway to major poker festivals, too.
The WSOPC stop in Sint Maarten will take place from 31st March until 3rd April, but a comprehensive qualifying schedule has just started, with plenty of options for players to dive into (see below).
Your mission at Juicy Stakes Poker is to win a juicy (ahem…) $4,200 package which includes the following:
$1,700 buy-in for the WSOPC CARIBBEAN $200,000 GTD Main Event
5-nights for two in a Premier Double Room at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort
$600 expenses
All meals and beverages included
$100 free Cash Game buy-in
Welcome package
Welcome dinner with the Poker team
So, keep a note in your poker diary of the WSOPC Caribbean 2023 Final at 5pm Eastern on 5 February. It’s a $160+$15 buy-in and guarantees at least one WSOPC St. Maarten package. And here are the qualifying options to look out for:
WSOPC Caribbean 2023 Step Satellite
1 Final Seat GTD Buy-in: $9+$0.90
Daily at 5:10pm & 9:10 pm Eastern until 5th February
WSOPC Caribbean 2023 Step Satellite
1 Final Seat GTD Buy-in: $5+$0.50
Daily at 7:10pm until 5th February
WSOPC Caribbean 2023 Last Chance Satellite
1 Final Seat GTD February 5th Buy-in: $10+$1
3pm Eastern, 5th February
Good luck at the Juicy Stakes Poker tables, have fun, and maybe you’ll be soaking up the sun on Sint Maarten’s beaches…

It might be a surprise for many that the World Poker Tour, the leading poker brand and event specialist that has been televising high-stakes games for a good two decades, is such a latecomer to real money online poker in an age when a players’ platform would seem an imperative.
Nevertheless, it’s very impressive to be going so strong regardless and, meanwhile, it’s better late than never… Anyway, despite the fact that WPT Global has been existence only since 2022, it’s already a major force in online poker. A key reason for this, of course, is because it funnels online poker tournament players who qualify via a prolonged, comprehensive satellite set-up through to major WPT events around the globe.
And that’s major in every way, not least the prize pools. For instance, at the recent World Poker Tour World Championship, held at Wynn Las Vegas in December, the massive field of 2,960 registered players saw the already enormous guarantee of $15,000,000 smashed, with the prize fund finally totalling a nosebleed $29,008,000. The eventual winner, Eliot Hudon of Canada, walked away with a life-changing first prize of $4,136,000!
Big Site, Big Plans and Big Names
One of WPT Global’s catchy lines is ‘Where the legendary meets revolutionary’ and, as if to cement this, more power was added to the proverbial elbow when some big names were brought in as ambassadors. Two of the names from this impressive roster are poker legends Doyle ‘Texas Dolly’ Brunson and Phil Ivey, who both happen to be 10-time World Series of Poker bracelet winners. As for the WPT, Ivey does have a win under his belt, but his appearance at nine final tables is amazing. Meanwhile, you don’t have to be a party loving music fiend to have heard of another kind of legend, namely US DJ and music producer Steve Aoki, whose passion for poker has seen him join the above-named Poker Hall of Famers to fly the WPT Global flag.
‘Created by Players, Perfected by Specialists’ is another WPT Global line that other online poker rooms no doubt wish they would have come up with, and this is evidenced in the way players are treated. A worthy touch is how the number of extremely skilled players allowed to sit at each table is limited in order to level the playing field for newer, less experienced players (although this works out well for seasoned pros, too). From Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games to Sit & Go and multi-table tournaments, it’s important to give everyone a fair crack of the whip…

Oak trees from acorns grow, as the classic saying goes, and at PokerListings we’re going from strength to strength in our venture that’s seeing us spread our wings in the world of tournament poker.
Our main goal, of course, is to serve the poker community, and we do this primarily by keeping our finger on the poker pulse in order to offer up as much information as we can. We appreciate that cutting a path through the jungle that is online poker bonuses and offers is no easy task. Finding time to actually play can be difficult enough, without also deciding which real money online poker operators best suit our needs. To this end, we strive to do the research and put in the groundwork so that our players don’t have to.
PokerListings Championship: Be In It to Win It
However, another string to our bow is in having our own LIVE events so that, not only can we play our part in connecting online poker tournament players to actual card rooms and casinos for Bricks & Mortar competition, but we also have our very own PokerListings events, too.
One such increasingly popular fixture is the PokerListings Championship which, we should point out, isn’t just a one-off tournament. In fact, it’s a dedicated event in itself, and the next edition will take place as part of an exciting roster of tournaments that forms the formidable poker offering at the first UK leg of The Festival Series which will be held at the renowned Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club in Nottingham, 13-19 February.
The PL Championship takes place 12-15 February, and you can take advantage of an upcoming qualifier at PokerStars to win a special $620 Package for our showcase. The satellite kicks off at 20:05 CET on 31 January, has a buy-in of $22 and allows 1 rebuy and 1 add-on, with a guarantee that someone will emerge from the qualifier having won their way to a $620 package, which includes:
3 nights hotel in Nottingham for 2 people (N.B. check-in: 13.02.2023; check-out: 16.02.203).
Buy-in to Day 1C of the PokerListings Championship in Nottingham.
All breakfasts included
Note that if you can’t make Nottingham we have you covered – win your way to glory in this satellite and you can use your $620 package in either Nottingham or for the PokerListings Championship at The Festival Malta (15-21 May)…

As technology continues to develop and, in turn, deliver more and more in terms of possibility, the world of real money online poker also evolves. This, of course, brings with it all manner of advancements and complex player aids that ultimately serve to enhance the overall online poker experience even further.
The main aim for operators is – obviously – to make the game as enjoyable as possible for poker fans so that new players are attracted to and (ideally) remain with them… and so the eco-system ticks along nicely.
However, along the way it’s imperative that there’s a balance in terms of protecting customers – particularly the hobbyists who make up the majority of players – in whatever way possible. And, remember, this has to be done across the board, whether it’s Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, Sit & Go games, online poker tournaments and everything else on offer.
Finding an optimal environment that achieves this while maintaining a certain level of choice, flexibility and practicability for players is never easy. One online poker room that continues to successfully tread this thin line is the ever-popular partypoker.
Maintaining a level playing field is a never-ending task which we, as players, tend not to appreciate as much as we probably should. An important and often contentious issue is that of the various information-based software tools that, when used in real time, have the potential to afford players a decisive edge over opponents who don’t use them.
Poker Software: How partypoker Finds a Balance
Not all online poker rooms deal with players using software tools in the same way, with some being more strict than others, and some arguably too liberal. It’s interesting that partypoker does indeed find a balance of sorts in that, while fair and legitimate use isn’t discouraged, it’s nevertheless prohibited during actual play. Note that, just to be clear, so that players are suitably pre-warned of the consequences of breaking the rules, partypoker lists the software that is and isn’t accepted when the client is running.
However, just because players shouldn’t have an unfair advantage in play, it doesn’t necessarily follow that they shouldn’t be able to put these tools to use to study and subsequently improve their game – it could be seen as unfair on those players willing to put the work in to deny them the opportunity to maximally use any information they can glean from time spent at the tables.
Download Hand Histories via Mygame
It turns out that partypoker doesn’t want to spoil the party, after all… They appreciate that hand histories can be very helpful indeed and, with that in mind, have a special function in MyGame that allows players to import hand histories directly into tools such as Holdem Manager or PokerTracker for use away from the tables.
Importantly, all downloadable hand histories are anonymised so that the aliases of opponents are hidden – the focus is on actual gameplay data only, which you can analyse to your heart’s content!
Good luck at the tables, and have fun working on your game…
There were more than $5 million in prizes across the two-week series. In 2022, the inaugural running set a local prize-pool record with a Main Event prize of almost $1.8 million, but this year blew past the $2 million mark.
It seems like January in Calgary is about setting records. When the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOP-C) first came to Calgary in January 2022, it exceeded all the expectations and set a provincial record for single-event prize pools of almost $1.8 million. That massive result guaranteed a return early-year visit to Cowtown for the Circuit and the 2023 return set another local record.
With expectations high for the Jan 2023 edition of WSOP-C Calgary, it went well beyond those expectations, nearly bursting host Deerfoot Inn & Casino at the seams. With more than 8,000 entries and more than $5 million in total prizes over the two-week series, it was even bigger than anyone expected.
Despite long lines for many events, three different poker games had four-figure entry totals. One event, the traditionally big 4-Flight, blew through the 1,500 entry mark for almost $600k in prizes in a $400 event, while the $1,700 Main Event drew more than 1,400 total entries over three starting days.
Inflated Numbers From the Start
It was clear from the very first game that the series was going to be big. The opening Big 30 Stack game drew more than 500 entries for a single-day Ring event, and the winner of the $400 event, Surrey, BC’s Joon Park, pocketed almost $32k for his investment.
He had to defeat GGPoker streamer Kevin Martin heads up and that was Martin’s top result of the series. He was ring-hunting throughout the series, but the big result still gave him a profit.
The big numbers continued through the series, including the $400 4-Flight game that saw 1,539 entries and $593,932 in prizes. That was the biggest field of the series, but the Main Event on the final days of the series came pretty close.
While the Main Event field, at 1,432 entries, was only the second biggest field in this series, it blew the other prize pools out of the water and set a new provincial record for a single-game prize pool at $2,169,303.
John French, who is mostly an online poker player, apparently had to be convinced by his rail to even enter the event, but he showed that online skills translate to the live felt. He faced off against streamer Mehdi “GitAndSos” Saeed in the heads-up battle.
Martin, who was enjoying his time at the series despite the massive numbers and the sometimes long lines, shouted out the poker community over top prize in the game, but he also recognized the staff who went through heroic efforts to deal with record numbers. When he arrived on Sunday to play the $2,200 High Roller game, he brought armfuls of donuts and muffins as a thank you to the staff for their hard work.
There were a couple of other big events to close out the series. The $400 Monster Stack game saw almost 1,200 entries and nearly $400,000 in prizes, while the $2,200 High Roller game got 379 entries for a 1st place prize of $157,726 and total prizes of more than $755k.
Big Numbers Draw Big Names
Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah
The massive numbers in the series helped draw even bigger numbers and attracted some big names from Canadian poker. Among the biggest to make it out for the series was Canada’s tenth highest live poker winner, Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah (~$8 million in live earnings).
He arrived in Cowtown in time for the $1k events and fired multiple events towards the end of the series, booking several cashes but missing out on his seventh Circuit ring. Rumor has it that he was crushing souls on the cash tables throughout the final week however, so it looked like it was a successful week for him in Calgary. Leah wasn’t the only high profile player at the series either. The aforementioned Martin, who was also a two-time contestant and winner of Big Brother Canada, runs one of the most watched poker streams in Canada. He was joined in Cowtown by a few of his fellow streamers and Big Brother alumni.
Arlie Shaban
Fellow BBC contestants and poker streamers Jon Pardy (Americas Cardroom) and Arlie Shaban (PokerStars) came to Calgary to play some poker and hang out with Martin, and it looks like they are bringing more BBC alumni into the poker fold. BBC2 contestant Adel Elsari is far less experienced on the green felt, but he joined his BBC buddies for a smaller event and booked a cash in one of his first live tournaments.
Both Pardy and Shaban booked cashes in more than one event as well, including a Day 2 cash for Shaban in the record-breaking Main Event, so it was a decent series for the BBC crew. Another streamer who had a great series was Mehdi “GitAndSos” Saeed. Saeed had two top-three finishes in the series, but narrowly missed out on winning his first Circuit Ring. He booked a third-place in the massive 4-Flight game early in the series for almost $35k, then went on to take second in the massive Main Event for $210,286. Martin’s GGPoker teammate Patrick “irEgption” Tardif also made a Day 2 run in the Main, and was on the rail for French’s epic win.
Patrick “irEgption” Tardif
Vancouver DJ Anthony “DJ Physik” Mar had a whirlwind weekend with Main Event poker straddling a weekend of DJ gigs on the lower mainland. He fired a bullet in Day 1a of Main Event under the assumption that the game would pay out on Day 1, as planned on the schedule. He knew he had DJ duties in Vancouver over the weekend, and was expecting to either have a chance at a payday on Day 1, or guaranteed money coming back to Calgary for Day 2.
The massive numbers messed with his plans though – he bagged a stack for Day 2, but players were just outside the money. Undeterred, Mar hopped on a plane after bagging his stack, did two nights of DJ duty in Van finishing at 3am Sunday morning, then was on a 6am flight back to Calgary to fight in Day 2 of the record-breaking Main Event 32 off the money. It wasn’t a pure Cinderella story, but Mar managed a respectable finish in 42nd place for more than $6k.
Hot Canadian Poker
With total prize pools of more than $5 million, and a Main Event that smashed its own record, the WSOP is clearly a good match for Calgary. But the turnout also speaks to what is rapidly becoming one of the hottest live poker markets in Canada. This was the third running of a WSOP Circuit event, with big numbers for all three, and there will very likely be a fourth before 2024, but the live scene extends well beyond marquee series like WSOP.
Host Deerfoot Inn & Casino runs multiple Super Stack series every year in addition to the WSOP events and local competitor Pure Gaming runs the Pure Poker Tour (PPT) spanning Alberta’s two biggest cities. The PPT runs 6 series in 2023 in addition to big monthly events at three properties between Calgary and Edmonton, and the 2023 PPT season will include Player of the Series and $20k in Player of the Year prizes, all added by the operator.
Ace Casino’s new airport facility also runs multiple series per year, and the location of the new facility may well facilitate out-of-town entries swelling those games. WSOP-C Calgary was massive, and that’s a testament to a marquee event and a host that stepped up to manage record-breaking numbers. But it also speaks to red-hot poker market kindling in Alberta. If you like live tournament poker, Alberta might need to be a new stop on your world travels.
Gone are the days when Sunday was known as the ‘day of rest’… for many it still is, of course, but anyone who’s been enjoying real money online poker for even a short while will be well aware that Sunday is THE day for online poker fans. It does make sense, given that we have more going on during the rest of the week, and online poker operators do their utmost to make Sundays extra special.
Recent developments at Americas Cardroom are typical of this approach. To cater for the increase in traffic that we see every Sunday, ACR has just introduced two shiny new multi-flight Sunday events. And a great touch is that there are two versions so that, depending on a player’s bankroll, there’s flexibility regarding buy-in options. Once again – and it has to be said that ACR makes a particular effort on this front – it’s a good sign that online poker tournament possibilities are provided for everyone, from the absolute beginner or those with a modest bankroll but a genuine passion for the game to seasoned pros and serious grinders.
The two new additions, which are now both underway as part of an already packed schedule at ACR, each offer attractive propositions to poker fans looking to jazz up their Sunday poker sessions.
In the first, the teeny weeny $2.50 buy-in tournament features a tasty $10,000 GTD prize pool! And there are more Day 1 flights than you can shake a stick at – in fact, you’ll find a total of 80 in the run-up to Day 2, which kicks off at 6:05pm ET each Sunday! This is sure to prove a success, so you can look forward to an exciting ride…
Meanwhile, for those players looking to aim bigger, ACR is also hosting a $66 buy-in tournament with a massive guarantee of $150,000 and, again, loads of Day 1 flights. Day 2 for this Sunday special starts at 5:30pm ET.
Note that these Day 1 flights for both events are aimed at giving all players a chance to get involved in two exciting tournaments, regardless of which time zone they’re in.
Of course, this is a mere taste of what’s on the poker menu at Americas Cardroom, where there’s a feast of Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, Sit & Go games, countless tournaments and much more to make the most of.
Meanwhile, find the latest online poker bonuses and offers via our bumper PokerListings info section. Have fun, and good luck…
It’s indicative of the healthy state of both real money online poker and the traditional Bricks & Mortar version that collaborations between the two continue to prosper. It’s normal nowadays to see online operators that started their business on the worldwide web cross over to the live arena and go from strength to strength as a result, and 888poker is one such.
Clearly starting 2023 as they intend to continue, 888poker recently kicked off the first leg of their LIVE tour in the inviting surroundings of the Casino Gran Via in Spain’s attractive capital, Madrid. The Main Event had a guarantee of €300,000 which, thanks to a big field that saw 514 entries, ballooned to a massive €415,312 that meant the top 53 finishers would pocket at least €1,600, with the eventual victor taking home a tasty €92,000.
Whether you’re an online poker tournament regular or an inexperienced recreational player, it’s always worth having a go at the great value online qualifiers for live events such as the 888poker Live Poker Festival because, as we know, poker brings with it so much potential.
As far as the action in the tournament itself is concerned, the field was eventually stripped down to two contenders, namely Spain’s Adrian Garcia and Oleg Bystrenin of Russia, the former entering the heads-up stage with a formidable 4:1 chip lead. Matters came to a decisive conclusion when Oleg decided to shove from the Button holding QJ and was called by Adrian, who put his faith in his K6… Despite a scary looking Flop of Ks5cTc (giving Oleg an up-and-down straight draw), Adrian survived the Turn’s Td and the River’s 6h to take top honours, the trophy and €92,000! Oleg went away with a cool €60,000 for his very impressive second place.
Here at PokerListings our mission is a global one, the aim being to promote the game of poker while at the same time searching out the best online poker bonuses and offers around so that our community can continue to have a great overall experience when they log in to their favourite online poker rooms.
Progress for the industry and for the game itself is, not surprisingly, an ongoing matter, and one of the areas (literally) that is an interesting indicator of where poker stands on a world level is its expansion in the United States. PokerStars can take deserved credit in this regard, with continued efforts in recent years reaping rewards and, in the process, affording certain US poker fans the opportunity to (legitimately) enjoy real money online poker – note that this is after years in the wilderness as a result of the effective online gambling ban that was the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006.
Poker players in the regions covering the combined player-pools of Michigan and New Jersey in particular have been fortunate enough to be at the epicentre of so much online poker activity in recent months, and now – for a limited period – they’ll be able to experience the rollercoaster ride that is Zoom poker at PokerStars.
What Is Zoom Poker?
Zoom poker takes the traditional Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games and adds a bit of spice… It’s a format that takes advantage of the wonders of technology, the point being that as soon as a player folds a hand, they are sent to a brand new table and thrown straight into the mix with a shiny new hand. Indeed, the so-called Fast Fold facility allows you to go hurtling through the ether to new pastures even if it’s not your turn to act. This is all made possible because everyone at the same stakes is placed in a fluid pool of players rather than being assigned to the one table.
Zoom is available to play via both the desktop and mobile platforms, with buy-ins ranging from a bankroll-friendly $2 to $200. Note that you can also take advantage of Zoom Early Bird, which sees the first 10 players who start or join a Zoom pool eligible for 2x rewards points during the first 10 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, there’s still time for players in New Jersey and Michigan as well as Pennsylvania to battle it out for your share of the prizes on offer in the PSPC Online Series, with a seven-figure sum still to be won! In fact, the Main Event doesn’t get underway until 29 January, and there remain plenty of chances to qualify via a choice of satellites, including $2.50 Spin & Go games running around the clock! Add this to satellites and registration for other main events, and it’s too good to miss for any budding online poker tournament hero.
