New EPT Malta Event Announced: Charity Tournament to Support SiGMA Foundation

The EPT Malta schedule just got an update and it’s not what you may thing. For once, it isn’t about prize pools or trophies.

PokerStars has announced that a €400 buy-in charity tournament will take place during the EPT Malta stop, with proceeds going to support the SiGMA Foundation’s school development project in Uganda. The event is scheduled for October 10 at 18:00, just as the festival begins to wind down but for a good cause, it might be one of the most impactful events on the 2025 schedule.

This new (and special) event joins an already stacked 2025 lineup, including the EPT Main Event, Mystery Bounty, and High Roller. If you missed our full rundown of what’s happening at EPT Malta starting tomorrow.

Poker for a Cause: Where the Buy-in Goes

The charity tournament carries a €400 buy-in, with €100 from each entry (and re-entry) going directly to the SiGMA Foundation. Players can also choose to top up their stacks, with 50% of top-up proceeds also donated.

All funds raised will support a school development project in Kasese, Uganda, where the Foundation is helping to build new classrooms, staff housing, kitchen and bathroom facilities. The goal is to allow local children to continue their education beyond kindergarten in a safe and functional environment and support the local economy by creating jobs for builders, contractors, and educators.

According to SiGMA Foundation reps, the support of the poker community will directly impact “hundreds of children,” not just through education access, but by creating an environment where learning is possible and sustainable.

A Joint Effort With a Global Reach

As far as comments on the surprise tournament goes, this is what Cedric Billot, Associate Director of Live Events Operations at PokerStars had to say:

Cedric Billot

We’re very proud to be working with SiGMA Foundation to support the vital work they do across the globe. Poker players are a global community and tournaments like this are an important reminder that we have a collective responsibility to support and develop other communities across the world, beyond our own bubble.

If you haven’t heard of the SiGMA Foundation here’s a little bit about it. It was founded in 2019 as the charitable part of SiGMA Group. Since then, it’s raised and deployed over €2 million for social development initiatives across Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure projects.

How the Tournament Fits into the EPT Malta Picture

The charity tournament is wedged right between two of the biggest events on the calendar: the EPT Mystery Bounty (Oct 8–10) and the EPT High Roller (Oct 10–12). While it’s not the highest buy-in on the slate, it’s arguably the most meaningful.

And don’t forget, 2025 is PokerStars’ long-awaited return to Malta. After all, this is a stop that hasn’t featured on the EPT circuit in nine years. So, it’s safe to say PokerListings will be following everything that goes down on the island of poker starting tomorrow.
