Dan “Jungleman” Cates Made His Ring Debut and Suffered a Concussion

A friend of Jungleman’s opened the Beverly Hills Fight Club and invited him to step into the ring. Cates accepted the offer, even though he had never stepped into a boxing ring before. Unfortunately, the fight did not go as planned.

Two Amateurs: Dan “Jungleman” Cates vs. Ryan “Elf” Noel Fought in a Boxing Ring

The match took place on January 22. The rules were simple: three rounds of three minutes each, fighting in headgear and 16-ounce gloves. According to Cates, neither he nor Noel had ever fought in a ring before, and each spent one month preparing for the match.

Ryan “Elf” Noel was the clear favorite going into the fight. First, he was younger than Cates (25 versus 36). Second, Noel likely had a more developed fighting background. Previously, he had trained with another professional gambler, Sean Perry.

BetOnline took bets on the event. Elf was the favorite, with odds of x1.36. Jungleman was offered at odds of x3.20.

The Fight Did Not Go According to Plan

In the second round, both opponents fell to the canvas. Elf got up and began hyping up the crowd while Jungleman was still trying to recover. A highlight of the fight can be seen on Twitter.

What Happened?

Cates did not take a fighting stance and likely did not hear the referee announce “fight.” Noel sprinted across the entire ring and threw a punch. Jungleman’s face was covered in blood. The referee stopped the fight.

Elf was not disqualified. Since formally neither fighter achieved a victory, the bout was ruled a no contest.

After the match, Cates wrote on Twitter:

Will There Be a Jungleman vs. Elf Rematch?

A bit later, Jungleman added that he would be willing to do a rematch after more training, once he makes sure that he doesn’t have any long-term damage and that the risks are very low. However, most commenters under that tweet are trying to talk Jungleman out of this risky venture.
