Jake Schindler Wins Wynn Millions High Roller Event #1: $10K NLHE ($166,600)

Jake Schindler defeated Joseph Cheong heads-up to win the Wynn Millions High Roller Event #1: $10,000 No Limit Hold’em for $166,600.

This marks the second big win for Schindler on the PokerGO Tour this year after previously winning the Stairway to Millions Event #6: $25,500 No Limit Hold’em for $287,500 in January and is now inching up on $29 million in live tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob.

Schindler entered the final table with the chip lead and nearly went coast-to-coast for the win with only Darren Elias temporarily taking the chip lead for a short time.

The event itself attracted 49 entries from some of the top talent in poker to generate a $490,000 prize pool.

Final Table Action

According to the PokerGO Tour Live Reporting blog, the final table began after Byron Kaverman eliminated Jonathan Jaffe in 10th place with Schindler kicking off the action as the chip leader.

Schindler’s initial chip lead didn’t last long as Elias had all the momentum early. Elias, who entered the final table in the middle of the pack doubled through Thomas Boivin when his suited big slick won a flip against queens.

Shortly after, Justin Saliba was the first to go at the final table when his king-four suited didn’t get there against the ace-seven suited held by Sean Winter. Elias then eliminated Boivin on the money bubble in eighth place when his five-trey suited improved to two pair against his opponent’s ace-six.

Elias was quickly at it again and got it in with sixes against four to take the chip leader while also eliminating Chris Brewer in seventh place for $19,600.

Despite a strong start at the final table, Elias was unable to hold onto the chip lead for long. He first lost a three-way pot resulting in a triple-up for Cheong before Schindler ousted Ali Imsirovic in sixth place for $29,400 when his tens held strong against king-five suited. At this point Schindler recaptured the chip lead and never looked back.

Cheong then took care of the next two players. Winter became Cheong’s first victim after his queen-ten was outmatched by king-queen to collect the $39,200 fifth-place prize.

Shortly after, Kaverman jammed with ace-ten on the flop holding the middle pair and didn’t get the miracle he needed after Cheong called with sevens for the bottom set to exit in fourth place for $53,900.

Schindler woke up to cowboys and made the easy call against Elias with king-queen after the latter four bet jammed. Elias had to settle for a third-place podium finish for $73,500 after whiffing the board.

Huge Heads-Up Chip Lead for Schindler

Heads-up play didn’t provide too much drama with Schindler entering with a 4:1 chip advantage over Cheong.

Cheong did double up his short-stack once at the final table to trim Schindler’s lead to a 3:1 chip advantage with ace-seven holding against queen-seven.

Schindler remained composed and chipped away at Cheong’s stack to leave him with just 10 big blinds when the final hand took place.

Cheong jammed with king-seven and was called by Schindler with nine-eight. It was looking like Cheong would double for a second time but an eight spiked the river to give Schindler the better hand and the first victory of the 2022 Wynn Millions High Roller festival with Cheong settling for the healthy runner-up prize of $107,800.
