Sound interesting? Here’s how Global Poker works:
How is Global Poker Legal in the USA?
Global Poker operates on what it calls “a sweepstakes model,” a version of which is used by dozens of familiar mainstream companies including McDonalds, Reader’s Digest, Pepsi, Publishers Clearing House and more to run ongoing promotions.
Because it runs as a sweepstakes, it currently is considered legal in 49 states (all except Washington). Global Poker is also legally operated in Canada (excluding Quebec).
How Does the Global Poker Sweepstakes Model Work?
Rather than offer you a poker account that you can fund with real money, Global Poker sells a virtual currency called “Gold Coins.”
These are virtual chips (play money) you can use to play poker with - but they CANNOT be redeemed for real money.
When you purchase your gold coins, though, you are given bonus sweepstakes prizes called “Sweeps Coins.” You can then use your Sweeps Coins to buy into Sweeps Coins tournaments and ring games.
Any Sweeps Coins that you win in poker games can then be redeemed for real money using an authorized payment processor.
Note: All players from around the world can buy Gold Coins and play at the play-money tables or Sweeps Coins. ONLY players from the US and Canada can actually redeem any Sweeps Coins, though.
How Can I Get Global Poker Sweeps Coins?
There are 3 ways you can get Sweeps Coins:
- As mentioned above you will receive a bonus of Sweeps Coins when you buy Gold Coins. How much Sweeps Coins you get depends on how many Gold Coins you buy.
- Receive free Sweeps Coins from no-cost Facebook giveaways
- Send a request by mail to receive free Sweeps Coins directly from the company
Yes, you read that right. If you send a stamped, handwritten envelope to the company you will receive 5 Sweeps Coins credits.
How Do I Play Poker Games with Sweeps Coins?
Once you’ve acquired some Sweeps Coins you can then play in games that use it as their buy-in.
The amount of Sweeps Coins you need to either enter the tournament or sit at the cash table will be listed clearly. For cash games you are limited to between 25x and 100x the blinds.
In a ring game, you’ll obviously be playing with set blinds with all of the Sweeps Coins you buy in with sitting at the table. If you have enough Sweeps Coins for your chosen tournament, just buy in and play.
The prize pool for a Sweeps Coins tournament will also be listed, showing you much you can potentially share in winning.
Whatever you win in either case is paid out to your account in Sweep Coins, which you can the redeem through the Global Poker payment processors.
What Are the Global Poker Payment Processors?
Current payments processors accepted on Global Poker include:
- Visa (via Worldpay)
- Mastercard (via Worldpay)
How Do I Redeem My Sweeps Coins for Real Money?
Once you request your first Sweeps Coins™ prize redemption you’ll need to send some verifying documents to prove you’re the rightful account holder.
Primary and secodnary documents are required.
A valid primary ID (w/ photo) can be any of the following:
- Driver’s license
- National/State ID
- Other government issued ID (Veteran’s ID, etc.)
A supporting document under your name as proof of address is also required. Those can be:
- Utility Bill (electricity, telco, water, etc. not older than 3 months)
- Notarized agreement form for lease (nothing hand-written)
- Bank statements
- Medical insurance
The verification process usually takes about 5 days and funds will be credited to your account. You can then redeem those funds via an accepted payment processor.
There is no maximum amount for redemptions although there is a SC50 minimum.
Where is Global Poker Licensed?
As for its gaming oversight, Global Poker is licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority, which ensures its games are fair, regulated and monitored.

Global Poker Tournaments
Global Poker has a surprisingly robust tournament schedule in both Gold Coin and Sweeps Coins formats.
Daily and weekly MTTs (multi-table tournaments) are plentiful and semmingly growing each week.
Their biggest Sunday Sweep Coins tournaments –the SC50,000 GTD Sunday Scrimmage and the Sunday Swish SC6,000 GTD – typically see a couple hundred players.
Main events as part of their bigger tournament series, like the GOAT, see guarantees of up to SC200,000 (remember SC can be cashed out as real-money equivalents) and 400-500 players.
Overall the daily and weekly MTT lineups for both Gold Coin (play money) and Sweeps Coins events are pretty solid with decent variety (even a PLO tourney!) and lots of shots at making the money.
Buy-ins range from about SC0.11 to SC33.
You can also unlock special tournament entries just by meeting challenges while you play. For example:
- Daily Hundo (10 pm ET): See 25 hands in Gold Coin Ring Games to unlock entry
- SC500 Daily Bonanza (9 pm ET): See 50 flops in any Ring Games to unlock entry
- SC5,000 Weekly Bonanza (Sunday 4 pm ET) : See 500 flops in any Ring Games to unlock entry
Global Poker S&Gs
Lots of Sit-and-Go’s are also up for grabs on Global Poker, either with 6 or 9 players. They run frequently at buy-ins from SC0.50 to about SC100.
Global Poker Cash Games
If you’re taking a stab at Global Poker after playing most of your hands at a standard real-money poker site in the US, like WSOP.com NJ, 888poker NJ or PokerStars NJ, you’ll be presently surprised at the level of play across the board at Global Poker.
Read; there are lots of soft spots at virtually all of the active tables (around 120+ at peak time), although generally you’ll find them at NL20 and below.
Blinds range from SC0.02/0.04 to even as high as SC10/20. PLO games are similarly priced.
About 2/3 of the cash-game traffic is in No-Limit Hold’em and the rest is in PLO.
Global Poker Rake
Raker at Global Poker is an even 5% across the board. At the higher stakes it’s not the best deal but at the micros it’s standard across the industry.
Global Poker Jackpot Sit & Go’s
Like every other poker site Global Poker has jumped into the Jackpot SnG game and offers 3-handed, turbo SnGs with a prize pool randomly multiplied before the tourney starts.
Multipliers run from 2x to 2,000x and buy-ins range from SC2 to SC100.
If you hit one of the bigger multipliers you’ll be in for a substantial boost to your bankroll as the winner gets about 75% of the prize pool and the rest is split between the other two players.
If you hit a smaller multiplier the tourney plays out as winner take all.
Global Poker Software
The Global Poker software isn’t a world-beater but it does run smoothly, betting functions are big enough to avoid misclicks and avatars are pretty standard.
As the entire platform is browser-based, you never need to download anything and you can easily play Global Poker on your smartphone or tablet. If you prefer you can also download either an iOS or Android app.
As no external software is allowed you can play worry-free from HUDs or bots.
