'It feels good to get there.'

By virtue of his second place finish in the Aussie Millions $100k Challenge Monday, Phil Ivey has become tournament poker’s all-time leading money winner.

“It’s exciting,” said the Team Full Tilt Pro. “I’ve been after that for a while now, so it feels good to get there.”

While Ivey was less than satisfied with losing heads-up to day trader Dan Shak for the title in Melbourne, his AUD$600,000 score, worth $544,219.50 in U.S. dollars according to the latest published exchange rates, pushed his career earnings up to $12,804,433 and into the top spot on the all-time list.

First place was held by Daniel Negreanu, who moved up to approximately $12,432,367 in career earnings and into the top spot this past September in similar fashion, when he finished runner-up to Barry Shulman at the World Series of Poker Europe main event.

Always all about business, Ivey said he doesn’t plan to spend very much time dwelling on the accomplishment.

“I don’t think I’ll celebrate too much,” he said. “I’m just going to go to dinner, maybe have a glass of wine or two and play some poker later.”

That poker game happens to be the Aussie Millions Million Dollar Cash Game, expected to feature some of the game’s top talent.

But for Ivey, it’s just another day at the office.

“It’s just another poker game,” he said.”I’m just going to play and try to win some hands.”

Knowing he’s now officially the top money earner in tournament poker history doesn’t appear to have had much of an effect on the steely Ivey’s day to day life either.

“I don’t really think, ‘oh I’m the best in the world,’” he said. “I just try to perform the best that I can day in and day out.”

yeah the money ivey earns is very imprrssive without a doubt but his style of play is not..like i said...he makes it seem very easy...for 8 years straight ive watched him get dealt good cards and he raises pre flop and if his hand doesnt improve after the flop he still makes the continuation bet..if his opponent raises he will fold..if his opponent calls he will check the turn..or if his opponent has nothing they will fold and he takes the pot..thats all hes been doing for the 8 years ive been watching him...nothing extraordinary...it seems like i dont like the guy or whtever but..i like the guy...great guy..lucky..i wish him the best and im happy for him....

i mean dont get me wrong the guy is one of the top players in the world so i wont put him down ..he has to be a great player according to his stats....but like i said its common what he does and i see this year in and year out when i watxch him on t.v. its not like i seen him play once..ive been into poker for about 8-9 years now so ive been watching ivey a while now...and ivey hasnt really impressed me at all...guys like daniel and cunningham..esfandiari...hellmuth..these guys are impressive...

i think daniel negreanu is the most skilled player....everytime i see ivey play..its the same routine...dealt good cards..raise preflop...flop comes..catches nothing bets..gets called..he checks the turn..or get raised he folds or takes the pot...thats all he does...he is the reason i think i am a great player because sme say hes the best and i think hes about average at best...lol...

I'd say Ivey has got bout 100mill earnings from poker, maybe even more than that. If it was 80% luck you wouldn't see the top players doing well all the time, it wud be different people all the time.

God I wish Poker was 80% luck and 20% lol it is the other way round and he is one of the best tournament players of all time and probably the best all round poker player I have ever watched that 12 mill is prob not even 1/2 of his earnings he has made from high stakes cash games as well...

    Skill,

Yes, Ivey really is that good. Also, Poker has been proven to be the other way around, about 80% skill, 20% luck. This is why Ivey wins more than anyone else. He's not luckier, he's just better.

Ask any of the best poker players in the world who the best is, 9:1 they say Ivey. There's a reason for that.

Is this guy really that good? I mean it's no wonder he wins more money in tournaments than anybody else, he's played more than just about anybody else.

Plus, poker is 80% luck and 20% skill and Ivey is simply luckier than everybody else. He's got a horseshoe up his ass - That's why he walks so funny.
