Xuan Liu Becomes First Female to Win a Triton Event

She came. She played. She won. For the first time ever, WPT Global ambassador Xuan Liu came to a Triton stop to play just one event — the $25K WPT Global Slam. After three days of competition, she unexpectedly took it down and earned a $860,000.

Dvoress Was Running Hot, but Everything Changed in Heads-up

The $25K WPT Global Slam attracted 155 entries. Five players reached the final day:

1Dan Dvoress49 bb
2David Peters20 bb
3Xuan Liu24 bb
4Kristen Foxen23 bb
5Tom Fuchs19 bb

Dvoress knocked out three opponents in a row and entered heads-up play with a massive chip lead: 60 bb vs 16 bb. But everything changed heads-up. Liu and Dvoress played one-on-one for about an hour. Liu caught better cards and wasn’t afraid to bluff.

For example, in this hand (starts at 2:02:30), Liu bet twice the pot on the river with just K-high:

The key hand was a coin flip: 55 > AQ for a 44 bb pot. Dvoress was left with just 4 bb and couldn’t recover.

“I came only to play this event”

Xuan Liu shared her thoughts in a post-win interview:

I came only to play this one event. I told myself I was going to make it really count. And obviously this is beyond my wildest dreams.

Liu continued:

I didn’t have the chip lead at all at the final table. I had a huge deficit going into heads-up. Obviously, I ran really hot. I really can’t hang on a day-to-day basis, but this is the beauty of poker — anybody can get lucky on any given day.

Obviously, this is a career highlight. I don’t know if I can ever top this in poker, to be completely honest.

I think it’s just going to happen more and more. In this field, there were three women. All three of us cashed, and two of us made the final table. I know so many talented women playing small and mid-stakes — in a few years they’ll be playing high-stakes. It’s going to be really exciting to watch.

Alex Foxen Wins His Third Triton Trophy in the $25K NLHE

The tournament drew 130 entries. In heads-up, Foxen started with a big advantage — 90 bb vs 14 bb — over Artur Martirosian. At one point, Artur evened out the stacks, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Second place paid $512K, while the winner earned $755K.

After the win, Foxen kept it short:

Alex Foxen

I definitely don’t think there is a code to be cracked. Running good. Feeling I’m playing my best. It’s a good recipe. Definitely didn’t like to see Arthur Martirosian on my left get a bunch of chips. He likes to battle, so we had some fun. Just worked my way. I had the best hand a lot of the time.
