WCOOP 2023: A Legendary Stretch

Talking about online poker series, it’s impossible not to mention World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). The 2023 edition of the series is the 22nd in its history, making WCOOP the world’s oldest, biggest, and arguable the most prestigious poker tournaments of all time.

The series has been running on PokerStars since the 10th of September, and there is still one week remaining before WCOOP concludes its 2023 visit on October 4th. With a lot of action-filled poker yet to be played, let us dive deep into the WCOOP and see what has happened during the series so far, as well as what we have to look forward to.

Tonkaaaa Wins Big

It shouldn’t come as news to many that the WCOOP schedule is filled to the brim with tournaments across all games, formats and buy-ins. One of the most highlighted happenings during the series so far, is Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot’s win in the $10 300 No-Limit Hold’em Super Tuesday High Roller, which was played Tuesday 12th. It was indeed an impressive feat for the Team PokerStars represent to conquer the field of 55 players. A total 24 re-entries were made in the tournament which made the total prize pool had culminated to a whopping $790 000.

For his win, Tonkaaaa received a $213 228 prize check, his third biggest cash. He can now also title himself as a WCOOP winner!

Perrymejsen’s Legendary Week

But Tonkaaaa is not the only one who has delivered good WCOOP results so far! During the series so far, Sweden’s Jerry “Perrymejsen” Ödeen has won not one, not two, but three WCOOP-titles. As if this wasn’t impressive enough, the Gothenburg resident has appeared on a total five final tables, finishing 4th and 7th if not winning the event. For his super-hot streak, Perrymejsen has so far earned more than $115 000 during the WCOOP. $64 302 of these, he acquired through his win in the WCOOP 52-H: $1 050 NLHE.

Get Ready for the Main Event

Even though there already has been a lot of action on the PokerStars table, there are still lots of fun looking forward to if you haven’t joined in on the fun yet. In fact, you’re just in time seeing as event 98 – the Texas No Limit Hold ‘Em Main Event – will kick off this Sunday, the 1st! Three different editions of the Main Event will be played with various buy-ins, with the $X one holding the epithet “World Championship of NLHE”.

WCOOP 98-M: $1 050 NLHE [NLHE Main Event], $4M Gtd

For all the four card lovers, it should be mentioned that event WCOOP 100-H: World Championship of PLO: $10 300 Main Event, $750K Gtd also is being played on Sunday, starting 15:05. Of course there are two cheaper options for the PLO as well, like it was for NLHE: choose your preferable buy-in between $109, $1 050 or $10 300.
