Things in the poker world are never dull and yesterday was no exception. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the PokerStars team made a major announcement yesterday. The poker giant is officially pulling the plug on its Polish operations.
As of March 27, 2025, the online poker operator will no longer be available to players in the country. While exits like this often come on the heels of regulatory changes, that’s not the case here. Instead, the move is, according to the official announcement, part of a broader strategy by PokerStars’ parent company, Flutter Entertainment, to sharpen its focus on key growth markets.
This Is a Commercial Decision, Not a Regulatory One
In a statement released on yesterday, March 11, PokerStars confirmed that the decision to withdraw from Poland is purely a business move. As they put it, the company has been conducting an ongoing review of its global operations and determined that stepping away from Poland simply aligns better with its long-term goals. Flutter, the world’s largest sports betting and iGaming company, has been focused on strengthening PokerStars’ position in regulated markets where it has a sustainable competitive advantage.
This exit follows a similar pattern from last year, when PokerStars left markets including Croatia, Peru, and the Czech Republic. The goal? Streamline operations and consolidate efforts where the brand can grow more effectively – at least according to PokerStars.
What The Withdrawal Means for Polish Players
For Polish players, the next couple of weeks will be about wrapping things up. PokerStars has already assured its customers that they will be contacted directly with information on account closures, fund withdrawals, and any outstanding transactions. The company has also emphasized that players can reach out to the PokerStars Help Center for further assistance during the transition.
While is officially goodbye to Poland (at least for now), PokerStars did take a moment to acknowledge its long-standing player base in the country. Wrapping up its announcement, the poker giant didn’t forget to thank its Polish community for their support and loyalty over the years.
