PokerStars + BillyChip Foundation = True!
Talking about online poker, PokerStars surely needs no introduction. Having been one of the absolute biggest sites since its launch back in 2001, the site has made its permanent mark in poker history, and they do not intend to slow down the pace. PokerStars are now partnering up with the BillyChip Foundation, a partnership that surely will contribute to society!
What Is the BillyChip Foundation?
BillyChip was founded 2018 to honor the memory of Billy Abernethy-Hope. Billy was a Bristol-native ambulance driver who always had a big heart and many creative ideas on how to make the living situation of the homeless, poor and rough sleepers better. Billy tragically passed away only 20 years old in a motorcycle accident, but his dad Jon is driven in making Billy’s vision true through the BillyChip Foundation.
So, what do the foundation do? Billy kept hearing “if I give money to homeless people, they will only use it for drugs or alcohol”. In order to avoid this scenario, Billy came up with the idea of the BillyChip. At outlets participating in the BillyChip mission, you can buy a BillyChip for £2, and these chips can then be given to homeless, who can exchange chips for foods and/or beverages in affiliated BillyChip outlets.
PokerStars Joins the Mission!
Most definitely a heartwarming mission that the BillyChip foundation has initiated, and now PokerStars are joining in. Over a two-year period, PokerStars is supporting the charity with £100 000.
Also, during the PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour, a live charity live poker tournament will be played at the Hippodrome Casino in London! The Texas No Limit Hold'em tournament, which takes place the 20th of September, has a £220 Buy-in, with £50 being donated to the BillyChip Foundation. Playing poker while doing a good thing for society: can it get any better?!
PokerStars, which nowadays is owned by Flutter, has developed consistently with society throughout the years, and since a while back, they have a international Corporate Social Responsibility department. CSR-Head Sue Hammett shares the organization’s joy about the BillyChip partnership:

The PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour 2023 consists of 5 stops in the UK (Blackpool, Brighton, London, Edinburg and Nottingham), the Summer Festival in Malta, as well as the Irish Open. As previously mentioned, the BillyChip Charity Tournament will be played at the Hippodrome Casino in London. For sure a lot of exciting locations: The Irish Poker Open is in fact the longest running Texas NLH tournament in Europe!
