Jason Koon Wins His 11th Triton Title, Defeating His Best Friend and Mentor Ben «Ben86» Tollerene Heads-Up ($3,393,656*)

Montenegro holds special significance for Jason Koon. Seven years ago, Koon won his first Triton title here in the $125K Short Deck event for $3,579,836. Last night, he set a new record with his 11th Triton victory, taking down the $150K NLH 8-Handed and securing the second-largest cash of his career

Koon and Tollerene eliminated every player at the final table

The $150K NLHE event drew 108 entries. 17 players hit ITM.

With two players left to ITM, Koon busted Bryn Kenney.

Koon entered the final table as chip leader with 67 BB. The first two eliminations were scored by Ben «Ben86» Tollerene:

  • 9th: Isaac Haxton — AQo > AJo, 29 BB pot
  • 8th: Christoph Vogelsang — AQo > A8o, 30 BB pot. From there, Koon and Tollerene began to dominate the table.

Wiktor Malinowski finished 7th. He fought hard to chip up but eventually shoved Q7o from the SB with 5 BB. Koon called with A6o from the BB.

Eelis Parssinen busted in 6th when Tollerene’s jacks beat his kings in a 14 BB pot.

Matthias Eibinger took 5th after 3-bet jamming pocket fives into Tollerene’s pocket kings — 41.5 BB pot.

Phil Ivey exited in 4th — he got it in with A5o vs Koon’s 77. Koon made a full house on the river — 13.5 BB pot.

Wayne Heung finished 3rd after jamming T9s into Tollerene’s ATo — 28 BB pot.

In the heads-up, Tollerene started with 61 BB to Koon’s 46 BB. The players made a deal based on ICM. Koon received $3,393,656*, while Tollerene locked up $3,437,344*.

In the final hand, Tollerene shoved A9o into Koon’s 66.

After the win, Koon shared:

I just had to beat the greatest poker player of all time. I got heads up with my best pal and mentor, inspiration to be standing here. About 12 years ago, whenever I first saw an elite poker player, what it took for them to be great, it was through Ben. And honestly I never thought at that time I would have the ability to be standing here.
