How To Find Info on Opponents in Online Poker

One of the ways to get more value in online poker is to know as much information on your opponents as possible — and we’re not talking about their favorite colors or animals.

But where and how can you find online poker statistics for tournament and cash players most effectively?

Well, in 2025 the online poker community has a few tools — besides Google, social networks, and forums — which PokerListings presents to you in this article.

Note: The majority of poker networks and independent rooms do not share their data with the general public, especially with tracking websites. Moreover, the information gathered from more open networks by third parties is not always 100% accurate due to errors, specific game formats, and other limitations. Keep this in mind when using any tracking website to check opponents.

Online Tournament Poker Players: SharkScope Database

For a long time, one of the biggest tracking websites for online tournament poker was PocketFives, now known as PokerStake, but in October 2024, its Online MTT Rankings and publicly available player stats were completely removed without being archived for future public access.

Another previously popular website — PokerProLabs — was quietly shut down around August 2024, without any announcements or warnings. The only way to see a limited amount of its previously collected statistics now is by using web archive snapshots, such as WebArchiveOrg.

So, as of May 22nd, 2025, there is only one website tracking online MTT players that continues to operate and has the largest regularly updated database — SharkScope.

SharkScope is a truly unique poker database accumulating every useful piece of information on online tournament players, excluding their playing patterns and real names (unless they are used as nicknames).

It is easy to use after registration — you have 5 free searches per day. Just type the nickname of your opponent in the Player Search tab, choose the network or room (if you want to see stats from there specifically), and click Quick Search, or use Advanced Search for even more precision.

After that, the website shows you the player’s graph or graphs (depending on your search), and some key stats, including:

  • The last played tournaments in the room or network — Tournaments tab
  • All main financial details (profit, losses, activity, etc.) — Statistics tab
  • Major scores — Publish tab

You must buy a subscription to unlock more searches and access additional tools — Breakdown, Insights (predictions about the player’s future), and more.

You can also check different online tournament leaderboards and request to remove your own statistics from the site or cut off statistics from a specific date.

SharkScope is a very useful database with a lot of information, but it is flawed.

  • First of all, the largest poker network GGPoker hasn’t been tracked there since September 2023, after the operator prohibited tracking websites from extracting tournament data. Some statistics from before that decision are still available, but for the most recent — and very limited — information, you’ll have to use GG’s PokerCraft and SmartHUD.
  • Secondly, SharkScope sometimes misses certain tournaments during data gathering.
  • Thirdly, it cannot properly collect rebuy and add-on expenses, as most poker rooms do not display how many rebuys a player has made. However, for PokerStars players, SharkScope does have features that allow for adding correct rebuy and add-on data for more accurate stats.

Online Cash Poker Players: Statname and SmartHand Databases

The majority of poker websites prohibit data mining from cash tables and bumhunting — when players “hunt” weak opponents and recreational players by their nicknames to make money from them. As a result, operators make it increasingly difficult for third parties to gather statistics year after year.

Even when some operators allow tracking websites to gather information, it isn’t always accurate due to missing hands and issues with counting in-game insurance and similar features.

As of May 22nd, 2025, there are two major websites actively gathering statistics on online cash players — Statname and SmartHand.

They work similarly but cover slightly different sets of rooms:

  • Statname — PokerStars, 888poker, Chico Network, GGPoker, Winning Poker Network, iPoker Network, iPoker Italy, Winamax, and PokerBROS
  • SmartHand — PokerStars, 888poker, Chico Network, GGPoker, Winning Poker Network

Because Statname covers more networks and rooms and also gives players free access to Top players info without a subscription, we chose it as the example.

Searching is very easy — after registration, just type your opponent’s nickname in the search bar and click the magnifying glass.

The search is completely free for limits under NL/PL/PLO 25, but for higher limits, you get only five free searches before needing a subscription plan to see more stats.

There, you’ll find a large (though not flawless) database, with not only financial stats but also action patterns — Statname displays all major player stats such as VPIP, PFR, 3-bet, c-bet, etc.
