April 2020: Siege of Malta with €500,000 guaranteed

Casino Malta and Olympic Casino announced that the forthcoming Siege of Malta poker tournament is being cancelled in response to growing concerns about Coronavirus.

The tournament was scheduled to take place at the InterContinental Conference Centre in St Julian’s in April with a €500,000 GTD Main Event plus several other side events.

A spokesperson said: “Due to grave concerns about the outbreak of Coronavirus, and following health guidance from organisations such as the Maltese Health Authorities and the World Health Organisation, we have reluctantly decided to cancel the new Siege of Malta tournament in April.

“In addition to wanting to protect all our players and staff, we also wish to take a responsible stance in helping to contain the virus. In common with many, many other organisers of public events, we are erring on the side of caution and common sense in taking the decision to cancel.”

Casino Malta’s flagship event, the Battle of Malta, will take place in October. The spokesperson added: “October is a long way ahead and we anticipate that there will be many positive developments regarding Coronavirus before Battle of Malta. We apologise for any disruption caused to players who were keen to compete at Siege of Malta, and we encourage everyone to come along to Battle of Malta in October instead.”

The Casino Malta released the schedule for its brand-new €500,000 guaranteed Siege of Malta event in April – along with details for official packages combining buy-in with accommodation at the five-star Intercontinental Hotel.

The new Siege of Malta festival – which builds on the success of the award-winning Battle of Malta – features a €400 + €50 buy-in Main Event and is set to attract thousands of players from all over Europe and beyond. The €500,000 guarantee tournament will take place just after Easter from April 15-20 in the spectacular Eden Arena at the InterContinental Hotel. The buy-in and the accommodation packages – which start from €960 for three nights at the luxurious Intercontinental Hotel – are on sale now through Battle of Malta’s Official Travel Partner, MainEventTravel.

Siege of Malta Main Event

There are a total of four start flights for the Siege of Malta Main Event including a Day 1D turbo. All Day 1 players receive a 40,000 starting stack and will play until just 15% of the field remain, all in the money. All nine SOM finalists will win a special package that includes five nights’ accommodation and buy-in for the BOM Main Event in October.

In addition to the flagship Main Event, the packed Siege of Malta schedule also features the €900 + €100 DomusBet High Roller along with numerous satellites and side events including a PLO tournament, a bounty event, Survive Your Day & Battle and Summer Showdown Special. There are also several side events hosted by Siege of Malta sponsors such as Vincitu and IPC along with a special “See you at BOM 2020” event on the final day which includes a Battle of Malta buy-in for the winner. All the tournaments at Siege of Malta feature unlimited re-entries.

Packages on sale now

Numerous special packages are now on sale for players wishing to stay at the gorgeous Intercontinental Hotel where the Siege of Malta festival is being held. The packages all come with a €15 discount on the regular cost and offer players unrivaled convenience with guests only minutes away from all the action in the spectacular Eden Arena.

The Intercontinental has numerous amenities including three swimming pools, hotel spa, fitness centre and private beach. There’s no doubt that the hotel is the perfect place to stay during Siege of Malta and will certainly have a great atmosphere throughout the festival.

The packages – which include accommodation and Main Event buy-in – start from €960 for single occupancy for three nights, and €1,005 for a double. Breakfast is included and all package holders will also have access to the fabulous Siege of Malta parties.
