The inaugural WPT London is underway from Mayfair’s Palm Beach Casino with 72 runners joining the action on Day 1a.

Among the players to take their seats on Day 1a of the £5k buy-in tournament were Phil Ivey, Roland De Wolfe, Erik Seidel, Huck Seed, Andrew Robl, Luke "Full Flush" Schwartz, James Akenhead and Praz Bansi.

Team PartyPoker was also well-represented with Ian Frazer, Felipe Ramos and Dragon Galic all in the running.

Although 72 players is significantly less than organizers were expecting for Day 1a, more are likely to play tomorrow as players begin to bust out of EPT Vilamoura and late registrations will also be available.

One of the early highlights on Day 1a saw Luke "FullFlush" Schwartz play a massive hand against Phil Ivey.

Ivey saw a board of 6-5-5-K-2 with four clubs against Schwartz and decided to move all-in on the river. Schwartz contemplated making a call but eventually folded, flashing the J.

Ivey happily raked the pot and with 110,000 chips in his stack took his place as one of the early chip leaders.

Day 1a of WPT London is scheduled to end later tonight with Day 1b set to begin tomorrow at 12 p.m. London time. The final table will play out this Saturday.
