David Williams collected three huge World Poker Tour buy-ins and an extra $20k for winning the WPT Monster Invitational last night at the Borgata in Atlantic City.

A made-for-TV event with just six elite players Williams still made the most of it, defeating Phil Laak heads-up to claim the title.

His total prize package along with the $20k cash:

  • Gold Monster 24K Headphones
  • Hublot King Power Unico Watch
  • Entry into three upcoming WPT main events — the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic, the WPT L.A. Poker Classic and the $15k WPT World Championship

Added up his prize package is worth over $80,0000.

Near-Miss for Laak, Scotty Out First

Phil Laak
Almost but not quite for Laak.

A promotional event for WPT sponsor Monster Headphones and WPT/Party Poker's ongoing online poker efforts in New Jersey the lineup offered six of today's most visible players.

  • Antonio Esfandiari
  • Phil Laak
  • Vanessa Selbst
  • Tony Dunst
  • Scotty Nguyen
  • David Williams

Laak got out of the gate fast, doubling his stack up to 500k within the first 10 hands before losing it back to Selbst in a huge full house under full house cooler.

Selbst rode that early double up all the way to third. Laak managed to climb all the way back to the chip lead and make it heads-up with Williams after doubling through and then busting Selbst with a flopped straight.

Out first were Nguyen, WPT host Dunst and Esfandiari. For a full recap of the action check the WPT Live Updates.

The WPT Monster Invitational will air over two one-hour episodes on Fox Sports in early 2015.
