Canadian Tuan Lam is the latest poker pro of Vietnamese descent to make a splash on the tournament scene with his second-place finish in the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event.
Lam was born Jan. 1, 1966 in the midst of the Vietnam War, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 19. Settling in the Toronto area, the married father of two picked up the game of poker from friends while working as a general laborer for a metal company.
As it happens, Lam had an aptitude for poker and shortly after he turned pro. The 2007 Series was his third WSOP but resulted in his biggest cash at the tournament by far: In 2006 he placed 46th in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout for $7,153 and finished 78th at a 2005 event.
