Doug Kim recently completed a bachelor's degree in economics at Duke University and is set to begin working for a financial consulting firm in Manhattan in December 2006. While at school, he was involved in a regular $100 buy-in $1/$1 No-Limit Hold’em home game with several of his friends and other students who enjoyed trash talking and playing intense poker.
He won his seat to the World Championship on PokerStars.com on July 23, 2006, a mere five days before the start of the event, and despite his low expectations and the tough competition, he made it to the final table. He played at the same table as several top pros during the WSOP, including Phil Ivey and Layne Flack.
His 2006 World Championship final table $2,391,520 payout represented the first time Doug cashed in a poker tournament.
