Global Poker Index Expands in China with TenCent Poker Deal

For much of the past decade China has been the next frontier for a new "poker boom."

It hasn't exactly materialized yet but the signs are there that, slowly but surely, it's becoming a much more viable market for poker brands.

Add another one of those signs as the Global Poker Index announced today it has agreed to a deal to incorporate results for the Chinese TenCent Poker Tour into the GPI rankings.

Players participating in TPT events will now be ranked and scored much liked players on the WSOP, WPT, EPT and more and a dedicated GPI ranking page will be installed on the GPI website.

A GPI Chinese Poker Awards is also expected to be introduced in 2017.

GPL Team Bounty Shootout at EPT Malta

GPI CEO Alex Dreyfus' other major entity, the Global Poker League, is also expected to expand its presence in China in 2017 but first will make a foray into next week's EPT Malta festival.

A €500+€50 GPL Team Double Bounty Shootout has been added to the calendar for Oct. 28 with turbo 15-minute levels and 25k starting stacks.

The main prize pool (€300/player) will be split among the money finishers as normal and a €100 instant bounty is given for busting any player.

With 6 seats per table, each seat is automatically registered in Round 1 as one of the 6 GPL Eurasia teams. The winner of Round 1 ‘activates’ their Teams’ bounty and adds €600 each into the prize pool starting in Round 2.

Starting in Round 2 all team bounties are added up - eg. 4 players registered as ‘Moscow Wolverines’ make it to Round 2 = €2.4K. The last ‘Wolverine’ registered player standing wins the cash and a Moscow Wolverines jersey.

The GPL Bounty Shootout is one of 60+ events on tap in Malta along with live Spin & Gos, four High Rollers and the signature €5,000 Main Event. Check a partial list of events and extra-curricular activities here.
