Erik Seidel surprises at $500/$1,000 online

Erik Seidel
Oh hey Erik Seidel. Where'd you come from?

The highest-stakes tables on Full Tilt Poker were positively buzzing last night.

Even so, it was a surprise to many that FTP pro Erik Seidel decided he had to get in on the action.

Seidel was once a successful side-game player, but in the past few years has dedicated himself almost entirely to tournaments.

"Sly" joined a full table with Michael "SirWatts" Watson, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond, Di "Urindanger" Dang, Brian "tsarrast" Rast, Phil Ivey and one other unidentified player.

There's a chance Seidel might be reverting to tournaments in the near future, though, as the 1988 WSOP Main Event runner-up lost $20,000 in a very short session.

Seidel had an incredible 2008 on the poker circuit that included a WPT victory, second place at the Aussie Millions and several other deep runs at WSOP and WPT events. By the end of the year Seidel had amassed more than $2 million in tournament winnings, so $20,000 is really just a drop in the bucket.

Meanwhile, Seidel's Team Full Tilt compatriot Phil Ivey had an exceptionally good day, winning a cool million, mostly from Tom "durrrr" Dwan.

Ivey is scheduled to play Dwan heads-up in the durrrr Challenge after Antonius, but if Dwan's downswing continues there's no telling if there will even be a second match.

As always, keep checking MarketPulse for the biggest online pots, or download the Full Tilt client and rail the action live.

Here are a couple of the big hands between Dwan and Ivey for your perusal:
